Iris Tyrell
'Tis new to thee.
Sex: Female
Age: Seems to be in her late twenties or early thirties
Physical Description
Above average height, Iris has a lean physique, not unlike a professional dancer. While she carries an obvious strength, her body is more flowing, elegant motion than cords and knots of power. She has fair skin without the flawlessness of youth nor the deep creases of years, lending her features a kind of ageless look; she could be anywhere from her mid-twenties to a well-preserved late thirties. Her wide, clear eyes are the greys and blues of dawn, with just the beginning of smile lines at the corners. The rest of her features are pleasant and pretty, and while she has a more girl-next-door look than a coquettishly wicked one, nothing about her speaks of naiveté or doe-eyed innocence. Her hair is straight and dark and hangs a little lower than her shoulder blades, usually pulled back in a messy tail with strands falling around her face. She has a collection of piercings in each ear, irregularly rotating between studs, bright metal ornaments, gemstones, or thin, fine chains. She wears a thin metal ring with a small, many-faceted blue stone and has no normally-visible tattoos or scars. Her hands are strong, with long, quick fingers and smooth callouses.
Her clothes are practical and functional, though cut in a way that displays the figure underneath. She prefers trousers, a button-down shirt and her nearly floor-length duster-style coat. She wears heavy, steel-capped boots and usually carries a leather bag across her body, large enough to carry a book, supplies, or anything else but not so large as to be remarkable.
Brief History
Iris, from the outside, is something of an enigma. She has spent much of her life moving from place to place in the Blue, never really settling down for any real period of time. In that time, however, she has tended to make more friends than enemies, travel extensively, and make something of a name for herself by buying passage on ships with her skills as an inveterate tinkerer and breathtaking mechanic. If any of the captains she's served with got together, they may notice that no two of them have gotten the same story as to where she came from. Maybe they wouldn't find it that unusual; there are a lot of people who don't care to talk about who they really are. They would agree that it seems unlikely she has any family, though.
For the last couple of years, Iris has served as the chief (and only) engineer of a skyship called the Owl, and, for the first time she can remember, it feels like home. She's even allowed herself to own more things than she can comfortably fit in a backpack.
Motivation: Life. Not survival, not existing day to day, but life, with all its joys and horrors and terrible, glorious freedoms.
Personality: Usually pleasant, even cheerful but often with a kind of intangible, difficult to define distance. Practical, capable, and hard-working, and endlessly, incessantly curious. When she thinks nobody is looking, occasionally prone to what seems to be a reflective melancholy. Not a black, destructive depression, though.
Worth noting is that Iris speaks with an accent that shares almost nothing with any of the people of the Worldshards. Wherever it comes from, it's probably also the source of the liquid, rolling curse words she uses when something goes wrong.

Explorer: Curious, Ancient Lore, History, Languages, Myths, Decipher
Inventor: Steam, Novel, (Apparently) Crackpot, Gears
Equipment:
A pen that never seems to run out of ink, doubles as an impossibly fine engraving stylus. It somehow seems alien, and the dull metal it's made from doesn't seem like anything you normally see in the Blue.
A side-by-side shotgun, well-made with an oiled walnut stock and forearm.
Her ring, which does not appear to be otherwise remarkable. It is not made of the same material as her pen.
A six-string acoustic guitar. The maker's mark is from a luthier in Ilysium. The case is battered but the instrument itself is well taken care of.
Leather bag with a collection of necessities, including a set of sturdy, lightweight tools and enough money to buy passage away from any of the worlds around Stella.
Notes: You're going to find out a lot more about Iris through the course of the game. Don't worry, I'm not lazy, I just don't want to spoil the mystery!
Concept: A fish out of water/stranger in a strange land. This will get less vague as the story goes along.
