World of Ilinum
The World of Moonlit Nights
Ilinum is around 50% larger then Earth, and also much more massive. There are two parts of Ilinum.
The surface is completely covered by a giant forest and is made of a single continent which stretches trough both the temperate and hot climate zone. The continent, named Hidher, which has no point higher then 800m, is inhabited by a race of native reptilian-like people which are called Arihunian.
The other part is the Erithen, which is the collective name for the large and small islands which float 1000m above the surface around the planet's equator. The inhabitants of those islands are the races of Makuri (known also as catkin), the Iheris (humans), the angel-like Seis and the Harizu, weird humanoids which mostly live in self-inflicted isolation all over Erithen. Ilinum has six natural satellites, from the smallest to the largest they are Kisuri, Nallin, Marri, Pyel, Warli and Ilin, none is an trapped asteroid. This makes a moonless night quite rare on Ilinum, happening only each 74 years.
Little is know about Hidher since Arihunians use their powerful poison to kill anyone from Erithen who approaches. It's a also full of dangerous monsters.
Made up of 5113 smaller and larger floating islands Erithen is a made up of 2138 provinces in a total of 38 countries. From it's islands 4232 is smaller then 1 square mile, 784 is between 1 and 10 square miles and just 97 are larger then 10 square miles of which just 15 are lager then 100 square miles.
Much like the oceans on Earth the atmosphere of Ilinum is inhabited by many creatures, from the small aeralium (something like air plankton) over the colones of coaye (colonial organisms which have similarity with earth's corals, live attached to the floating islands) to the giant dragons. Many of those creatures are used by the sapient species in many ways.
No one knows when or how people inhabited Ilinum, but it's sure that the written history begun around 4300 years in the past on the largest floating island of Terro. But the current calendar uses the dating system from the fall of the Nerghan Empire which was untied all but the smallest and most distant large island named Suya which happened 1034 years from today. Now there are 14 great countries which rule over the large island of Erithen and 31 small ones which rule over the much smaller areas of land.
Most of the population lives bellow the ground of the floating islands or in treetop habitats to allow as much as possible land to be used for agriculture.
Makuri are humanoids with some features of the common cat, like cat ears, eyes, tails and much denser and longer body hair. Compared to humans their reflexes and senses are much more keen and they are much more physically fit. But they are much less akin to magic making Makuri magic users rare. Makuri are, averagely, a little shorter then humans and live between ten or twenty years shorter then humans. Makuri mostly live in forests.
Iheris or more commonly just called humans, are the major race of the larger cities and floating islands. While they may vary form strong to weak and genius to plain idiotic in terms of physical strength and/or intellect all of them are highly adaptive and creative. Most humans live on the larger islands, working in many fields but are especially successful in craftsmanship and art.
Seis are humanoids with large angel-like wings growing from their backs. Even trough, from head to feet, they are just around 2/3 of a human's size their wings make them appear much larger. Seis have a affinity for magic, especially healing and physical enhancement magic. Seis live on the highest or lowest points of almost every floating island and act like messengers, hunters, patrols or provide different services while traveling trough the world. If it was not for their affinity for healing magic Seis would live just half the time that a human does but the affinity gives them almost the same time to live like that of a human.
Coming in many variants and sizes the Harizu have a few common points. Their head is human in appearance but their hair color is much lighter then that of the humans, they have red glowing eyes and their ears are larger then human for around 25%. Also their torso is humanoid, although much thinner, due the fact that Harizu rarely eat food and when they do it's mostly meat. But their arms and legs are ghost-like, able to pass trough solid objects and are usually different in shape and size for each individual. Harizu are akin to magic, especially to offensive magic or dark magic arts. Nocturnal.
This reptile-like humanoids are a large mystery. The only thing that is sure is that their saliva is highly toxic, killing even their own species in just a few minutes.
There are three main ways of transportation between the floating islands. Those are: Flying creatures trained to carry people, Magical portals build between larger cities and Magically powered Airships.
The most common flying creatures are dragons or gigantic birds which inhabit Aerith.
Magical portals are always active and are usually located just outside of large cities. Those allow fast travel for people and smaller quantities of cargo.
Airships have the largest cargo and passenger capacity but are relatively slow compared to the other two transportation methods. Still since airships are relatively easy and quick to build they are the most common transportation. Airships are powered by large magical stones which are commonly found all over the world.
In year 1030 the Kingdom of Suya launched a full scale assault on the Kingdom of Arlanth, now a former large country which controlled the Yihati floating island. Suya had just 3/4 of the army that Arlanth could muster to fight but with the brilliance of the military genius of general Kalhi Narakuri and the mysterious destruction of one third of Arlanth's army, which was key to defending Yihati, Suya won and conquered Arlanth in 1031. Three years of occupation pass...
The province of Ilakuri, part of the small Yera Kingdom, located on the islands which share the same name and the closest province to the Kingdom of Arlanth. There, in the city of Ilak, close to the border, where the Ilak Royal Military Academy is located. There our story will start...
