Long ago, the gods gave the world magic and with magic they created the race of Magi. The Magi were the most gifted with the god given powers and could stand equal to the gods themselves. But, like always, power corrupts. The Magi nearly tore the world asunder. The gods put an end to their mistake by sending a magical scourge over the world, killing millions and stripping the power from most Magi. The Magi that were left had very little power anymore, many getting slaughtered by wild beasts or mad mobs. Those who survived relearned their magic and went on with their lives, cursing the gods til the day they died. The descended of the Magi are the magic wielding Mages, somewhat inferior compared to their forefathers but they still stand over others but are also cursed. Mages may learn magic but to really able to unlock their powers they must go through vigorous tests that not all survive or come from sane.
Towers have been erected to teach the young magic users the secrets and dangers of magic. Magic is their direct link to the gods, but many things are also of magic, many whispering things that promise power yet only return their favors with betrayal. The towers often prevent such things to poison the minds of their students but not always do they succeed and less so does the student survive his deals.
Each tower is a marvel of magical architecture. Now living hands would be able to build anything that compares to it. A mage's tower is tall, nearly fifty levels at most to the sky and each level is much larger than it is on the outside. Each tower is also controlled by an Archmage, a master of many fields of magic. He or she over sees their tower and is held responsible when a mage in the region goes rogue. Along with the the Archmage, the towers are also watched by the Paladins, holy knights that make sure that magic is kept in check. Their order is somewhat resistant to magic and there for the perfect guardians of the populous that are under siege by renegade mages.
Paladins specifically tasked to hunt down renegade mages are called The Seekers. Unlike most paladins, these are not always the heavy armored men and women. More often than not they wear simple robes or just light armor of their religion and carry two handed swords, blessed to zap the strength from the mages. The blessings and material which the weapons are made of are very rare and only assigned to the Seekers.
There are currently three Magi Towers that mages inhabit and use for the teachings of magic, the rest being either destroyed, abandoned, haunted or all of the above. They are scattered through out the world of Arlon, one for each major continent.
There is Sel Sufos in Kherno, the largest country in the eastern regions. The tower excels at potion making due to Kherno having vast jungles and exotic plants. Sel Sufos has the Archmage Hogen Kiichi, the oldest and wisest of the Archmages but without the magic he'd just be a frail old man that has an expensive taste for sake.
In the land of Hveliron, the northern regions of Arlon and is famed for it's frozen wastes, the tower of Epos resides. The Archmages thatt oversees Epos is Archmage Freki Whitesage, a human who is famous for his magics which he uses to enhance his fighting abilities.
The last tower is Carnor in Redmoor in the Western regions of Arlon. The Archmage of Carnor is shrouded in mystery for he wears a mask to cover his face and his voice his muffled but still audible and not to mention he never reveals all his power. He has taken the name Ravenor.
There are also little schools for toddlers that discover their special gift at a very early age. The usual age group going to a mage's tower is about 13-15. Schools serve to keep the magic at a controlable state, barely teaching any new magic. Those schools serve more like an orphanage.
At the age of 16 or older, apprentices will go through The Trial
"Welcome to the tower of Carnor, young magic user. Here you will study not only how to wield your given power but also various other things, such as alchemy, history and even swordmanship just to name a few. Since our order is so small many apprentices will take the teachings from many of the experience mages that reside here. Here we shall take care of your well being for this is your new home. You will have regular three meals a day that is provided by the people of the tower. You will not be swimming in luxury however. You will take jobs in and outside of the tower. The town of Wayfare is a couple of leagues away and there you can take jobs. Fortunately the town is one of the major trading posts so earning steel should not be hard for you.
There are now almost 70 apprentices learning here and as you saw when you arrived this tower does not seem the tall splender like the other towers but Carnor has everything you need. Alchemy labs are regularily stocked with herbs and concoctions and the library is filled with books and scrolls that will help you in your studies. All of you that are just arriving you will go to the third floor and get a bunk. All apprentices have to share one large room. Only when you work up and pass our tests, you will have your own private chambers"
May the blood of the Magi flow strong within our veins. Their spirit make us strong and wise.
Humans are found all over the world of Arlon. They are like cockroaches -Racist elf
Elves can be found here and there, mostly in large forested areas. Fewer elves are found in cities and they are mostly servants and live in slums. Some elves find their fortune in life however but you would never see an elf in politics unless he were a high ranking mage.
Hakedians were the ruling race of Khenro and even a large portion of Hvelrion. They were tan skinned and often mostly with dark colored hair but bright eyes. Their race was also the major population of mages but they got greedy. Many influential individuals of the mage circle made deals with demonic forces but their deals were not kept and they exacted a terrible price from the Hakedians. All the towers that the Hakedians once ruled aside from Sel Sufos were destroyed in a Hakedian civil war and also their capitols. As the last days of the war came to pass, the last curse was inflicted. Now Hakedian's are cursed with demonic appearance and many lost their sanity because of it, doing terrible things to others and themselves. The civil war ended near 1500 years ago and Hakedians are rare to see aside from very large cities and towns. You will rarely find 2 Hakedians alike. One may have horns and a tail while another may have cat like eyes and thin layer of fur and maybe another that has no strange appearance other than that of a pre-war Hakedian. One thing can be said however that all Hakedians have in common, they all have a faint aura of wrongness about them and many are considered selfish and self serving. They should not be trusted lightly.
I may need an extra writer to further explain Human and Elf since I am not getting inspired enough to write much about them. If you have something good then send it to me via PM
Name:
Gender: (This is just a formality)
Age: (Preferably very late teens. 16-19)
Race:
Appearance 1: (Facial features and the such. Picture preferred. Anime allowed. Set it in Hider if pic is big)
Appearance 2: (Outfit. This is optional. Not needed if 1 covers it. No Dragon Age 2 Mage Armor. Also, at the beginning you will have to wear plain robes (Color optional) so this will be more like your wishlist)
Personality:
Back Story:
Skills before entering the tower: (These are skills that the character learns/ed outside of the Tower. Some skills may hinder magic focus, though some may benefit and the other way around. Swordsmanship or any other combat training outside of inexperienced brawling/Swinging a sword wildly will hinder Magic Focus and still will if studied in the tower.)
Magic Focus:
You can choose any number of focuses though there are limits. Fewer focuses means more mastery over them. Category will not make you overpowered. Example. A fire mage will be alot better at fire than a mage with Elemental as a focus. These focuses are just as a beginning. You may learn other as the RP goes.
If I find some problem with it I will first ask for you to elaborate via PM and if you explain it well and justify I will accept. If not then I will maybe suggest what else you can do to alter it. I can be rather strict but I try not to be too harsh
There are forbidden magics in this world. Such as Necromancy. Any magics that are focused just to control against someone's will or anything like that is forbidden. I am not saying however that you might not learn it later. Though learning something that is completely different will also become alot more difficult to learn and may even have negative effects on some other spells.
You will not be chained completely by your focus. Each mage is capable of minor spells such as telekinesis (Lifting small objects) and altering clothing color or something minor like that. Just simple cantrips that a child could do.
Typing D-[Magic] means the character only dabbles in it but doesn't take the studies seriously enough to have too much negative effects. Casting magic one only dabbles in is rather weak compared to that you practice, so say if you dabble at lightning you can do minor things such as shock someone through touch.
There character sheet may be set up in any way you like and in any order just as long as the important parts are shown.
Name: Kairon Kain Gender: Male Age: 18 Race: Hakedian
http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/20...by_dathron.jpg
Eyes: Like Molten gold rimmed with crimson and on a field of black (the whites are black). Also glow faintly.
Skin color: lightly tanned
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 115lbs.
Other: A tail that is somewhat longer than legs. Long pointy tongue, small fangs. Also pointy years.
Personality: Cheerful, sarcastic, jester, somewhat manipulative, distant. Back Story:
Kain grew up in the city of Trasis, way west of the tower of Carnor. He grew up with his mother who was a scullery maid at an inn. In his childhood he was taught how to cook and learned from the inn cook about edible herbs and how to make spices. He had a fairly good childhood until the age of 9 he started to discover his special gift but his mother made him hide it well. She didn't want to lose him. To calm himself, Kain went out on jogs and runs, able to maneuver through the tight and small streets with ease and not having to stop. He one day got more daring and started to run on the roofs since buildings were so closely stacked together.
At the age of 13 his magic was starting to spindle out of control at times and it wasn't making his mother's life easier. One night he had kept her up with some nightmares he was having so when she worked she wasn't really paying much attention to her surroundings. She tripped a very drunk and very mad sellsword who thought she was a thief in his drunken haze and in his drunken rage he had beat her nearly to death and killed her by slitting her throat. The man would've hanged the next day if Kairon hadn't walked into the common room just after the murder. The man got roasted by torrents of lightning that came from Kain's hands.
After that he was sent to a Mage school, closely watched by paladins, until he came of age and went to the tower of Carnor. Skills before the tower: Cooking, Spice making, Herb Lore, Athletics, Maneuvering, Balance, Acrobatics. Magic Focus: Lightning, Fire, D-Nature.
Forbidden Magic is something that isn't taught in the towers of magi. They are punishable by death. Forbidden magic is not hard to learn if you find the right source but that doesn't mean it's not difficult. Forbidden magic consists of Necromancy and anything that may take the free will of a person, mind control and such things. To take someone's will away is against the law of magic. These sort of magics may be earned through the rp but NOT as starting magics. Time magic is also forbidden, the manipulation of the natural order of things being a great sin.
Transmuting something into gold is against the law as well. Only certain mages are allowed to transmute in that way. Those who break this law are severely punished.
Copper and steel is the most common to get in pay and seeing a platinum coin is very rare, some going through their lives without seeing a single one.
5 steel would be enough to buy a room at an inn and 5 coppers a loaf of bread.
If someone has a better currency system in mind you may send it to be via PM

Backstory: Aurellia was born on a small poor town located several miles away from the tower of Carnor. Her mother and father were both jobless drunkards which left Aurellia's care up to her elder brother. She and her brother fed the family by pick-pocketing strangers in the trader's market and stealing various food items from shops amd other places. Aurellia's childhood was spent mostly as an adult instead of a child since her and her brother were the two who supported the family. At the age of 14, Aurellia began to gain her magical abilities. The gene seemed to have passed her elder brother, for which they were both happy about. If they both left, their parents wouldn't last a minute. Aurellia tried to continue her average life but her abilities began to hinder her abilities, making it harder to stay stealthy and unnoticed. This was evident one day when she was caught one day while she pick pocketing several nobles. Aurellia had noticed that several noblemen met in the town, usually loaded with all sorts of trinkets and tons of money. There was no way she could pass this up. After some planning she finally decided to go through with her plan. She snuck behind the nobles, easily pick-pocketing all sorts of valuable things. She reached the last one and grinned when she grabbed multiple gold coins, til the man's pocket began to bloom full of flowers. The man noticed instantly and Aurellia couldn't do anything but stand and stare. The man began to yell about her and threaten to turn her in, in which he managed to get her name. Before things got too out of hand she ran away. It was evident that this was a difficulty to manage. Her brother constantly nagged at her that it would be better to go to a school for it. Aurellia knew that she was just making things for her family harder. Eventually, she gave in and decided to go to one of the towers to learn.
Skills before the tower: Basic medical care, pick-pocketing, basic natural medicine, and (Not really a skill) quick thinker.
Magic focus: Healing, Nature, D-Temporary transformation. (She can transform herself into other people or things that she has seen before. The longest she can manage this illusion is about two minutes before it begins to wear off or flicker between her image and the copied one. Side note: I may or may not try to make this a major focus later on.)

I'm quite interested in this :) What would you consider an acceptable post length?

Just don't go "He/she goes here and sits down". 1 small pharagraphs at least. I also have a Casual of this if you'd rather want that.

Okay, thank you :) I'm definitely not good enough for casual but I can usually write 1-2 paragraphs :) I shall put my CS up once I finish it :)
Also, would you consider dwarfs as a magical race? Just a possible, very probably not that good suggestion :)

This rp is heavily inspired by Dragon age and Dwarves can't do magic.
