Dreams of Frost Jiskastya X Promise
Across the city, as children blearily got up and peered out of their window, their eyes widened in surprise and delight at the coating of snow on the ground. They galloped off downstairs, crowing happily, certain that no school in their right mind would insist on having them come to school today.
Their parents confirmed the hastily asked question of 'snow day?' and the children raced away again, followed only by the echo of their parent's voice, telling them to make sure they put on coat, hat, and gloves before they went out. Outside they collapsed laughing into the downy piles of cold snow, piled almost three feet high. They laughed and threw a snowball, and, within seconds, it seemed that the whole neighborhood was embroiled in a massive snowball fight.
Boys and girls scrambled around, laughing, face flushed from exertion and cold.
High above, drifting on a breeze, a teenage boy with white hair and laughing blue eyes, looked down at the children, a soft smile on his face. "You're welcome," he whispered softly. He then suddenly dropped from the sky, falling with a laugh, crooked staff clutched tightly in one hand. The wind caught him inches from the ground, and he shot off along the streets. People shrieked in laughter as the cold wind raced by them. and then continued with their snowball fight.
Jack landed lightly on the ground, running a few steps, then sliding to a halt on bare feet. He twirled a little, arms flung wide, enjoying the feel of the sunlight on his face. Then he took off again, floating high, and looking around the town.
Off in the distance he saw a teenage boy and his little sister heading to the frozen lake, several miles from the edge of town. He felt a sudden pang, but couldn't quite pin down why, so slowly, curiously, he drifted his way over. He would watch for a bit. And make sure that lake was frozen perfectly solid.
