Siren City IC
“A city unafflicted by external world governments... the world’s centre of science… home to the world’s greatest scientists and their families… home to 2 million people… home to the world’s greatest criminals… Welcome to Siren city.”
2051 – Deadly pandemic called “siren” begins to spreads across the world.
2052 – world governments fund and build a state of art research facility in the oceanic where the world’s greatest minds attempt to find a cure.
2053 – Pandemic “siren” is cured.
2055 – Research facility expands massively to the size of a large city and becomes the world’s centre of scientific research. It is now called siren city.
2060 – Siren city is declared a sovereign nation free of external governmental control.
2070 – Scientists discover self-augmentation, giving humans the ability to perform extraordinary feats.
2080 – Self-augmentation considered too dangerous and is prohibited. A civil war erupts.
2085 – The Siren city government subdues the revolutionists by releasing a large army of robots called the sentinel and a group of human specialists called enforcers. The city is left in ruins.
2090 – Siren city is struggling to return to its former glory as crime is abundant. The sentinel and enforcers becomes the main police force of the city.
Beep! Beep! “Commander Lionel sir, we are in position and ready to subdue, waiting for your signal sir!”
“Engage! Engage! All units engage!” Lionel yelled into his helmet microphone.
Within minutes level 5 of the underground tunnel slums were swamped with Enforcers and Sentinels. Gunfire broke out into the air and screams echoed in the tunnels. One by one the criminals fell and their blood begun filling the tunnel walkways. It was obvious the criminals of the underground slums could not repel such a force but having lived in the slum tunnels all their lives they could easily flee into the maze that resides under Siren city.
“Don’t let them escape! We need to find DV! NOW!” Lionel commanded as he sprinted through the tunnels knocking anything in his way to ground with his riot shield. The criminals were fast at escaping while Lionel struggled to grasp his position in the slum tunnel maze. He scanned the area until but the criminals had all fled. “All units report! I need a live criminal NOW!” he commanded again.
Within minutes a squadron of sentinels arrived with a stumpy man whose leg had been shot. Lionel took off his helmet and threw it to the ground as he walked towards the stumpy man. He then grasped the man by the neck and slammed him into the wall. “WHERE IS HE?! WHERE IS DA VINCI!?”
Knowing his life was on the line the man cried out in desperation “Slums! Level 8! East Market Section! Please don’t kill me I have……!”
With a quick movement of his hand Lionel had snapped the man’s neck.
“You heard the man, Level 8 East Market Section! It’s vital we find DV, He’s got contact with all the self-augmented users” Lionel snapped.
It would only be a matter of moments before the enforcers and sentinel converged on DV’s position.
Siren city OOC (Still accepting/ Recruiting):
Sin made her way through the tunnels, her breathe coming in faster and faster as the moments went by. She couldn't believe they were able to find them underground. She thought for sure where she was this time would be better than the last, but of course, she had to be more than wrong. Behind her she heard the cries of some of the criminals being demolished, but none of it mattered to her. She needed to get out and fast. They were after people like her, the self-augmented users. It was illegal to use their powers, the government claiming it was dangerous, but Sin was already a criminal. It didn't matter to her if she got caught or not. She already had a record, a huge one in fact. 'Where was DV?' she thought. She knew they were going to be after him the most. He knew where all of the self-augmented users were, and if they got ahold of him, they were all shit out of luck.
While Sin was engulfed in her thoughts, she didn't notice the Enforcer coming at her. She slid to a stop and pulled out her sword. She knew it was worthless, since the guy in front of her was basically made out of metal, but it was her best shot. She slashed at him, but within the minute, he had her pinned to the wall. She struggled to get out, trying her best not to have to use her power. They would be after her too if she did. "Shit," she muttered under her breath. On instinct, she used her power to shove the guy of her. With a crack, the guy landed against the far wall. She stood there for a moment and just stared down at the Enforcer. She wiped off the blood that was coming from her lip with the back of her hand. "Damn you," she told him before fleeing.
Level 8 Underground - East Market
It was just another typical day in the underground markets. The lights were flashing and illuminating the area like it was a festival, the crowds were restlessly moving in and about whilst filling the air with chatter and excitement. Yes although it was the underground, all was quiet and all was well. In a particular somewhat dark alley, a man sat in a building not so far away from the life of the markets.
"DV! DV! There's a crap load of enforcers and sentinels are on their way from level 5!!" cried a small-sized man at the brink of death, clothes torn and face filled with blood.
Another much taller masked man emerged from the shadows concealed by his hood stood up and moved closer to the one at his feet and looked down upon him. "Thankyou scout, however I've already anticipated this" said the man as he smirked under his mask hiding his expressions from his subordinate.
DV was what the underground called him. Some called him the King of the Underground and others even called him God. He seemed to know everything others didn't. Everyone respected DV in the underground and could always rely on DV whenever they needed. With the price of one thing... a favour.
The enforcers and sentinels were quickly closing in on DV and although they were mercilessly killing people in the previous levels, DV didn't even one second have a care on his face. Hiding from his subordinates and acting like a hero under his mask, his next plan was to flee.
DV went back into the shadows he was previously in and threw his hood and mask to the bleeding man on the floor. "Wear these" he commanded.
Confused, the half dead man said "DV? What do you want me to do?"
"Scout, I have a plan"
"I want you to act as me and draw their attention. You owe me your life scout."
Fearing that DV has ultimately abandoned him for dead and was planning to run away, DV quickly said "Don't worry, your life won't be in danger."
"Use your augmented electronic power and shut down all the suits and sentinels that come your way. That way, you will have enough time to escape into the 'secret' maze these enforcers scum will never know about" explained DV while he was fitting into an enforcers suit.
"We were born here, they know not what we do"
Returning back to his pledge for his lifesaver, DV's subordinate quickly saluted, "Yes sir!"
The people in the market quickly ran to cover and shelter as the Enforcers and Sentinels entered the streets. The people knew that something was about to happen as it was extremely uncommon for them to be so deep underground. “Search the place! Kill all self-augmented!” Lionel ordered.
Beep! Beep! “Sir I’ve been hit, criminal codename sin just attacked me, I need back up sir”.
“For god sakes we don’t have men to spare, you’re a bloody enforcer take care of her yourself!” Lionel snapped in anger.
“There he is! Over there!” an enforcer yelled as he pointed to the masked man in the middle of the street.
“We need him alive! Capture him!” Lionel ordered. Immediately the enforcers closed in and surrounded the masked man. “GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!” the men ordered repeatedly.
An extremely blinding spark of light and electricity exploded from the masked man sending all within the blast vicinity flying. Electricity still lingered around those who were struck, the enforcer suits were disabled and surrounding sentinel robots immediately fell to the ground. The enforcers struggled to get up as the weights of their suits were too heavy for them to move in without assisted power control system.
The masked man began sprinting away as fast as he could but he kept tripping as the previous use of his power had taken a large toll on him. Clunk! Clunk! Clunk! The sound of metal smashing against the ground behind him was quickly getting louder. “Impossible, he was sure he had shut down all the sentinels and enforcer suits, no one would be strong enough to be running in their suit without their suit’s assisted power system” he thought in desperation.
WHACK! The masked man fell to the ground as a large metal riot shield crushed his legs. The masked man screamed out in pain while clenching his legs as the large enforcer approached him. “ARGHHH! What are you?! How can you still move?!” The masked man screamed.
“I am the law, I am Lionel Lasky….”
Violet skimed the outskirts and the shadows of level 8. The commotion threw her focus off slight ,but Violet knew what to look for. Finally she spotted him. One of DV's subordanets. He seemed to be talking to himself. Which meant he was talking to DV. Who must be hiding in the shadows near by him. Viloet jumped from patio to patio going over the room she had seen DV's subordante in. Taking a sharp turn she stumbled on her own feet and fell into the shadows next to DV. "Son of a Sentinale" Violet cursed under her breath. She looked up to see DV.
"Well there he is the big man himself" Violet commented getting off her bum. She rubbed it slightly then placed her hand back by her side. "Using another man as bait I see. Thats heroic" Violet commented sarcasticly. She noticed DV getting into a Sentinale suit." Sometimes I wonder if there is anything you can't get your hands on" She whispered smirking at the mans celverness.
Thinking back to it almost like a dream, a flashback occurred in DV's mind.
"DV! I need your help! I've killed a family out of revenge and now their relatives are after me!"
"Please! I'll do anything" pleaded Scout.
Without even giving in to any second thoughts or even thinking how disgusting this man was, DV quickly replied, "I've seen you around Scout. I understand you have electronic powers? Do you really want my help? Understand that many of your type who I have helped have returned their favour with their own lives"
"Anything! Anything is better than dying to those pigs! Please I beg you DV!"
Pulling out a shiny metal device from his pocket, DV threw it at Scout. "This is my personal creation. I have yet to have tested it or name it. Press the button in the middle" explained DV.
"What will it do to me?" Scout questioned.
"Distort your face. You will not be recognisable to anyone else besides me. Only I will know you truly are. From now on you are Scout and serve under me, the great Da Vinci!" DV instructed as he had his hands beside him level to his neck and began to laugh with his shoulders moving up and down.
Scout quickly saluted as if it was from practice against his own will, "Yes sir!"
Back to the present, DV's vision faded back to reality as he was already behind the enforcer suit's HUD with his eyes gazing down upon Violet.
"Haha, that man owes me his life" DV said whilst he was starting up the suit.
Upon closer examination DV scanned Violet top to bottom, and quickly snapped
"I haven't seen you around before. Why are you here? You should get out of here before your life is in danger"
Realising his identity was in danger, DV pulled out his device from years ago and distorted his device which he now calls 'The DVu' under the enforcer suit's helmet not letting Violet notice.
The DVu has ever since evolved greatly from when Scout used it. The prototype was ever since destroyed to avoid any prying eyes. DVu now only works for DV himself via a gene recognition program and is able to utilise a memory system that allows DV to disguise himself as preset faces and voices.
"Look, we'll talk later. Do you want to escape with me or not? You will owe me if you do."
It had been 2 days since Hayden had left the orphanage without a word of goodbye to anyone. Although he missed his "family", he was at awe with the new world that he had never stepped into - a world which he had only seen little of on the daily news. He had received a lift from a sweet old man and his strange floating contraption, a hovac he called it - he was also going towards the Siren City. Hayden sat still in the vehicle, he watched his surroundings and partially listened to the chatter of the old man. This world outside, although dry and desolated, was much different from the lush green playgrounds of the orphanage that he had left behind, Hayden thought. It must of been the result of the civil war which he had heard about over the years, between the government and the self-augmented monsters, he didn't expect it to be this bad.
"So you think we're monsters boy?" The old man suddenly asked out of nowhere. "That's what I used to think about myself, a monster, being hunted down by those Government dogs", he murmured angrily, "But they are wrong, some of us just want a peaceful life, and that's what I had achieved over the years, a peaceful life, settled down with my sweet Margaret, outside that hell hole of a city. But lookie here, sometimes I have to go back to check up on my daughter, she decided to stay in that place."
Hayden was confused. He wasn't paying anymore attention to the old man's ramblings, he was baffled. Did he accidentally say it out loud? No. He couldn't have, he thought to himself. And what did the old man mean by "we're", what do we have alike? And what did he mean by himself a monster, hunted by the Government dogs?
"Whoa slow down, one question at a time." The old man said loudly, interrupting Hayden's chains of thoughts. "What do we have alike? We're what you called monsters. Self-augmented individuals." The man responded.
"What?" Hayden finally said. "Why do you know that we're-"
"I can read your mind and look into your recent memories. You can't control your powers, it takes time."
What powers? He means my high immunity? Hayden thought.
"No, your power is more than that. I think you can control poisons or something, from what I've worked out from your memories. You poisoned that nun and then cured her."
"You know what I'm on about. Most self-augmented individuals have specific conditions in which must be required to use their ability or they have a disadvantage when they do. Yours is that your skin and eye colours change."
"What's yours then?" Hayden enquired.
"Touch. When I invited you into my hovac, I offered you my hand. I needed to fulfil that condition" The old man said. "I'm sorry that I invaded your thoughts, but I had to, who knows what strangers are wandering out here. Oh, sorry Hayden, I haven't introduced myself, my name is Gavain, code name Cryptic", he said with a laugh.
The conversation between Hayden and Gavain went on for the rest of the trip across the deserted land, Hayden's questions and Gavain's answers kept they occupied. Without realizing, they had reached the south entrance of Siren City.
"So where are you going?" Gavain asked Hayden. "Wait, let me guess, 1 Research Street?" He answered himself with a chuckle.
Hayden smiled back. He was fine with the old man looking into his memories, payment for the lift Hayden presumed.
"And a great payment it is. Seeing your youthful memories reminds me of myself back then, not having a care in the world. But one day you have to realise who your true friends and enemies are."
Hayden felt uncomfortable when Gavain said that. "...true friends and enemies are..." he thought to himself. He had never had an enemy before how would he know.
The vehicle came to a sudden stop.
"Ha, excuse me, sorry to interrupt your thoughts but we have reached your destination. I wish you the best of luck in finding your parents," Gavain said cheekily. "Oh, take this by the way", the man said handing Hayden a strange looking rectangular device with a series of buttons, "it's a mobile phone, you use it to call people long distances away, I set my number as an emergency contact, so if you ever need me just press that yellow button right there."
Hayden accepted the gift from Gavain and got off the hovac.
"Till next time and goodluck", the man said and drove off quickly.
Hayden stood there staring at the man drive off down the long street, and then he had realised. He was here. Now standing outside the gates of "1 Research Street, Siren City".
He turned around and looked at the building that stood in front of him. It was abandoned, and it looks like it has been for a while now.
Meanwhile under Siren city…..
Lionel removed a pair of handcuffs from his belt and clasped them on the masked man’s wrists. “We need to get out of her now!” Lionel ordered. They were vulnerable. The EMP blasted had left them weak and it was obvious the slum folk did not like the government in there market. The enforcers removed their suits and piled them up with the sentinels.
"How'd were you still able to move commander?" an enforcer asked Lionel.
“Because I don't use the suit's assisted control system. Now destroy the suits and sentinels” Lionel demanded as him and his team left the market.
Sin made her way up a latter that led into an abandoned building she's been using as a safe-haven, besides the underground, for a while now. She needed to get ahold of the medical supplies she had in her possession. Not only did the Enforcer cause her lip to bleed, she also was bleeding down the side of her leg. She glance down at her wound and winced. The entire leg o her jeans on her left leg was slashed into two. So, now, it looked like two flimsy pieces of material only held together by one side covered in blood. Once she was above ground and in the building, Sin limped over to where she kept her stuff. She let herself fall to the ground and picked through her stuff, trying to find anything to stop the bleeding. When she finally did find something, she heard the door being open.
Hayden looked up at the giant gate surrounding the massive abandoned building in front of him. There he saw a logo on the building that had the initials S.A.I., Self-Augmented International, painted in bold words under the initials. Hayden looked away, and looked towards the entrance. He knew that he mustn't give up hope, he knew that there would be some clue of who his parents were or, the people who sent him the presents, were inside that building. He approached the gate and pushed on it. It was locked. He tried again, he pushed hard this time, hoping it would budge, but it didn't. The only clue he had lead him here and now he will knew that he would never find out. He pushed the gate again, and again. Building momentum each time, doing a run up, tackling the barrier but it wouldn't bulge. He held onto the gate and focused on it somewhat miraculously opening. Something caught his eyes, he noticed his arms turned pitch black like before. He focused harder. He heard some crackling noises and smoke coming from his arms. He pressed harder and harder with all his effort, hoping that he could melt the gate or something with his powers.
"Nothing", he whispered to himself as he fell to the ground in defeat. He sat there sloped, not knowing what to do. He travelled so far and for nothing.
"Oi, that's a cool power you have", said a tall man with short spiky hair, wearing shades and loose clothing approaching Hayden. "Is it some acid based or something? Too bad those gates are resilient to everything, even to government and their 'tank destroying' technology."
"Who are you?" Hayden asked cautiously, standing up again.
"Just a guy who has too much time on his hands", the man said with a smile. "So looking at you, it seems like you want to get in. Sorry but its impossible. The research team left this building about half a year ago, and they went into hiding. There were too many Government hounds on their backs."
"What research team? Who are 'they'?"
"The people who discovered Self-Augmentation. The people who gave the weak a chance to survive in this god forsaken world."
"God hasn't forsaken us!" Hayden responded loudly, "the nuns say that they never have, this was a problem brought on by the human race."
"What do they know? Hiding in their churches praying to their dear god. Have they been outside into the real world lately? It will always be a dog eat dog world, the rich and powerful trying to destroy the little people. I used to have family, but they were all killed during a raid looking for some self-augmented bastard."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"I don't need your pity, I just want to kill those who killed my family. Simple as that, and that is why I self-augmented myself. Wanna see?"
Without a chance for Hayden to respond, the man clicked his fingers and several fireballs appeared before him.
"Cool hey? With this powers I can burn those dogs to hell. Well now", the balls of fire got more intense and closer to Hayden, "Who side are you on?"
"N-no ones, i'm just trying to find my parents. I think they used to work here", Hayden said panicking, sweat dripping down his face from the heat of the fireballs.
"Well alrighty", the man said, as he clicked his fingers again and the balls faded away.
Hayden sighed with a sign of relief.
"If you're looking for the people who used to work here they must have been involved with the self-augmentation project, and to us, the "little" people, they are friends. I might know where they are, I could show you the way."
"Why do you want to help me?" Hayden asked curiously.
"I can't just abandon a young man in a big corrupt city by himself, and like I said, I have too much time on my hands", he turned around and started walking. "Ya coming or what?"
"A-alright." The boy picked up his satchel on the ground, placed the mobile in his pocket and quickly followed the man. "Uhmm...where are we going?"
"The Underground Districts", the man said smirking.
