The Tuurngait Virus: Nothing is really known about the mysterious virus known as the Tuurngait, other than the natives of the area fears it immensely. Symptoms caused by the Tuurngait virus seem to advance in stages. First, victims have reported hearing faint whispers, as though from a distance. When the disease advances to the second stage, subjects report frequent bouts of deja vu. Third stage renders the victim comatose. It is theorized that the coma is induced by a state of full-immersion hallucination, though what is being hallucinated is unknown. Some have wondered what would happen if one were to escape such a coma, and recover from it. Victims have never recovered, though, dying within a day or two of becoming comatose. Then the virus advances to the fourth stage, mutating the corpse into what has become known as a Turrngait Zombie. Archaic has found no way to kill these mutated corpses. They are described as being utterly alien in appearance. The head bulges, becoming bulbous. The eyes become bloodshot orbs, and teeth sharpen into fangs. Any sexual features are disposed of, including breasts and genitalia. There is a fleshy tube running from the groin into the anal sphincter, though its purpose is unknown. Every Turrngait Zombie looks identical in appearance, and exhibit extremely high intelligence, which, strangely, seems to increase exponentially when in large groups, even exceeding that of humans in groups of sufficient size. Another animal commonly infected by the Tuurngait are dogs, and the effects are similar. The main difference is a reanimated dog appears to be rotting where it stands, and doesn't gain any of the intellectual boost a human does. Maggots crawl through its body as it walks, and its eyes emit a yellow glow.
The Archaic: A shadowy organization that you were invited to join. You didn't receive much info on the organization, but some of you will have risen to the Elevated Caste, which are the elite of the Archaic. It is rumored within the organization that it was started by Da Vinci himself. You were assigned to the Archaic Shelter in northern Greenland, working with a linguist named Howard LaFresque. Even when in the Elevated Caste, though, you never did get much information on the intentions of this group.
Archaic Shelter: Completely self-sufficient research centers buried thousands of feet underground. Due to the sensitive nature of the research done there, anything that goes into a Shelter doesn't come out.
Strange Artifacts: Relics unearthed in the Greenland Shelter. Their effects are undocumented, with most being sealed away. It's not recommended that you touch them, because they seem to speed the progress of the virus.
