The Premise |
| You're a college student at the prestigious college, Tokyo U, you're between the ages of 20 and 23 and live in your own apartment close to campus which the university privately owns. You may or may not have a job or be close to your family. The new semester has just begun and you are ready (or not) to get started after the nice break to celebrate the holidays. It's a chilly morning on campus and the sky is looming overhead like a dark cloak of insecurity. There are a few raindrops sprinkling the mostly parking lot leading up to the library. The soft welcoming scent of coffee escapes into the public when the door opens and a male walks out with an armful of books. He gets into his car and drives off to another part of the large campus which is sprinkled around the dense area of the city. You enter the library and do your thing. You get coffee or a snack and stuff your head in the books. Or you might take out your laptop and do something else. As soon as the digital clock above the entrance to the large modern library changes to 09:42 A.M the door opens, letting in a burst of cold wind and the person who is about to take your life.
| You don't notice the shifty look in the man's eyes as he wanders around the large complex, pretending to pick books up and leaf through them. At 09:47 A.M the attack begins. The man dressed in black jeans, a blue gray wind breaker, and a black cap pulls out two medium sized guns and begins firing. He manages to run along the aisles and stairs. Within the span of just four minutes, he manages to murder fourteen people: ten students, three faculty and one elderly civilian. The police arrive at 09:52 A.M and apprehend the gunman who had attempted to take his life. For a moment you see a flash of black and then you find yourself suspended in the depressing sky. You're wearing the same attire you had on but you have not a scratch nor blood on you. You see the police officers dragging the murderer out the door. You see the ambulance arriving as well as a news crew. You see many people standing by, obviously upset and yet it feels like you're just watching some crummy film. They begin wheeling out the dead bodies and you catch a glimpse of your own face between the black body bags trailing out like a hopeless parade. It then hits you: you're dead.
| This begins your new journey. A blue haired woman sitting atop an oar appears in front of you and the others deceased and says she has something special to offer. You're taken to the Spirit World and are given a choice, to either remain dead or to go through a trail ordeal which grants you your life back. In return, you will offer you services as a Spirit Detective. A Spirit Detective is someone who is a link to the Living World and the Spirit World, they have cases to catch demons or aid ghosts. They will live normal daily lives and keep their otherworldly profession a secret. They will also hone their skills that they have tapped into upon dying. They can now utilize their spirit energy to help them as detectives. You are now in a group with your other classmates from Tokyo University, you must form a bond in order to ensure your job gets done efficiently. Along the way you will be challenged by other morals, difficult cases, crime, and of course those pesky end of the year exams as well as the possibility of finding love amongst the chaos of your changed life.
The Expectations |
| You will play up to two characters between the ages of 20 and 23. You will roleplay in third person, past tense. You will be active in the OOC for roleplay discussions and overall friendly chit chat. Should you be inactive or very flaky for an extended period of time without notice, your character becomes mine and I will either find a way to kill them off or will have them be sent elsewhere on a new solo case. It will depend on what is happening in the story thus far. Your posts will not be color coded but you are free and encouraged to use 'thoughts' in your post to personalize your character. Cursing should be appropriate to the character and setting. You are free to be as descriptive when it comes to blood and gore if you're within human reasoning. Your character will have to hone their style of fighting as Spirit Detectives, each person should have a different "thing" that they bring to the group. We cannot have the same skills or tactics in the group or it will make me slim the group down in order to not have a bunch of copycats. The roleplay will be played in "Chapters" and these chapters will revolve around either a case, day to day life, training or something else like travel or character development.
| This is not a roleplay where you should forget about your character's wants and needs as a human, sure they are a Spirit Detective and a student but they need to form bonds with living people. If people take the action for granted and it becomes too much of an issue, I will scale it back. So far in my roleplays I have been able to mix action and human interaction itself fairly well. If you are with me for more than two chapters, you have the option to PM me privately if you wish to add on a temporary role of an antagonist for us to face off against. This roleplay will also use "Rounds" in which we don't have a posting order but we will all post once before a new round begins. This ensures everyone is on the same page, no one is left out or left behind. Though this also means, you need be active, a post once a week should make us finish one round a week. Chapters will likely have anywhere from six rounds to twenty, it just depends. If you need more clarification, see my other group roleplays for examples but when I post, you're free to post once. Once everyone has, I will post again, thus starting the next round, it's not too complicated. Your posts should be about four to five paragraphs minimum and each paragraph I have written so far is an example of the length I see each paragraph as being. Aka, skimpy paragraphs won't cut it with me. You're here to read and write with other passionate people.

| Whenever you're applying for (Chapter one or anything else) you must fill out a sheet like the ones I have used. You must follow it to a t to be accepted easily. At the end of the submission period, I will then go over all applicants and go over any corrections needed. Then we can start. If you think about the story as a whole and how much development and potential you can give your character over time, you'll likely be a better candidate than someone who isn't a team player or someone who doesn't have a decent moral compass. Let's be frank here, if your character doesn't seem like the type who can at least act as a detective with fair social skills, then it's likely they wouldn't even be asked to come back to life if they are wasting it. Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask away. As a note, my character sheets are unfinished but Naha's at least gives you the entire sheet to mull over and begin filling out. Her skill of painting in the air to make fairly solid objects would be weakened by water, weight and her tools. Her artwork would only be stable for about thirty seconds to start with.

Potential Style of Fighting: She would likely use her spirit energy to "up" her agility. She is good at running and could easily do well against hand to hand combatants. She would use her spirit energy to be quick and light on her feet, with more training, she possibly could create a shot-put or javelin for long range attacks.

Aki would most likely manipulate his spiritual energy into a 2 dimensional circle (or circles, given time) by utilizing this simple shapes basic form he can use and manipulate the raw energy to perform various moves as long as the shape remains circular. It relies heavily on the imaginative mind of the user and just how much he can do with circles. The weakness of this power is it's massive use of spiritual and mental energy even in it's plain and circular form the telekinetic control, alternating functions and size shifting can tire him out especially if there's resistance from opposing forces acting on the disc.
Post Frequency: I'm pretty active during the weekdays, on for at least a few hours a day. I could keep up with the ooc and most likely get up 2-3 posts a week if need be. As a head's up I'm usually busy on the weekends so expect my activity to dip on those days.

Potential Style of Fighting: She would manipulate her spirit energy via the use of sound waves. When reaching a certain pitch her energy coalesces into round circles that emit from her mouth. This makes her an ideal long range fighter. The weakness of this type of style is the fact she can only maintain the necessary pitch for a certain amount of time.

I'm pretty happy we don't have to make a bloated character sheet. Writing some huge history to me takes away some of the mystery around a character. I'll have a sheet whipped up by tomorrow.

Good, I feel a long winded back story may help me as a GM to weed out any "cliches" but at the same time, I'd rather give people the benefit of the doubt here. The quicker a CS sheet is, the easier it is to refer to later on, rather than worry too much about details that should just come up on their own in the roleplay itself. So hopefully people don't just sling things together and do have a plausible back story in mind.

Potential Style of Fighting: As an kendo practitioner, Jin is very capable with a sword, but he's perfected his style to to accommodate for fighting against those that aren't kendo non practitioners. He's been in many street fights with wooden blades so he's learned how to fight against a multitude of styles and has overcoe the weakness of kendo being a martial art of sports only, becoming a true "ronin" as he'd call himself.

Oddly enough, Toshiro's spirit energy will manifest itself into vines that connect around to his arms that enable him to use them in one of two ways(eventually both, but one for now). The first way is that Toshiro can use the vines around his arms as literal whips. In that case, the vines would reposition themselves around Toshiro's wrists, which means a very mid to close-range fighting style. The second of two ways would be that the vines stay attached to his arms, and Toshiro manipulates his spirit energy to such ways that little arrows are launched out from the vines, which would imply a long-ranged fighting style.

There was a silence in the room, this early morning. An arm could be seen dangling from the edge of the bed. The silence was soon interrupted by the blaring of his alarm clock. Scott moaned and groaned, roll around in the bed and pulled the covers over his head, hoping to drain out the sound of the noise. Didn't work. He threw the covers from over his head and to the side as he extended his arm out and shut the device off. He laid back down on his side but this time, his cell phone started to ring. It was Professor Thomas, or Tommy, as he likes to be called. He answered it and Professor Thomas wasted no time talking. "Hello there, Scott. Hope you are almost ready because the buses leave in thirty minutes. See ya' soon!" He hanged up the phone just as the Professor did. 'Thirty minutes!' He though inside of his head as he sprung up out of bed, throwing a bag on his bed and packing it with clothes, food and water.
When that was over, he ran over towards the bathroom and ran the shower water while a toothbrush was stuck in his mouth. He brushed his teeth rapidly then spat as his mouth was filled with toothpaste and spit. He ran his hand over his lips, wiping away the excess exposure of toothpaste. Scott then stripped down and got in the shower, which only lasted for about three minutes. Quickest shower of his life. He put on a pair of blue jean shorts, a Hollister shirt and tennis shoes. He didn't really care about his appearance, since he was late.
He grabbed his packed bag and threw it over his shoulder, he rummaged through his closet and grabbed his sleeping bag and camera then he was off towards the pick-up area. "5...4...3..." Professor Thomas was counting down, if you were late, you didn't go on the trip. "I'm here!" Scott came zooming out of nowhere, bumping into some of the kids. "Oh, sorry." His scanned towards Professor Thomas as he clapped his hands together to get everyone's attention. He laid down some basic ground rules and the usual what to and what not to do type ordeal.
Scott rolled his eyes then smiled when Professor Thomas told them to select a buddy then get on the bus. 'Buddy, really? We're in college for Christ's Sake!' Scott looked left then looked right then shrugged his shoulders as he walked towards the bus and got on, sitting beside himself, settling his bags beside him as he stared out of the window.
Post Frequency: I can be very active in OOC after work, for my off days, I can be active all day. IC, I will be able to post the next time it is my turn.
