Research log, 14-05-20██, ‘Osiris’ facility

While my initial reservations with the project have not entirely subsided, I am beginning to see the value this research may have.

The surviving subjects have finally begun to show signs of improvement, after four weeks of testing. Perhaps the four months spent on ridiculously expensive brain surgery will prove to not have been an entire waste of time. The two weeks of recovery I could understand, at least.

Thankfully the appropriate security measures and contingencies have finally been put in place, and not a moment too soon. We should be able to contain the subjects for long enough to find out what makes them tick and make them more amendable to our suggestions.

It is a good thing I replaced the incompetent buffoon that ran this place before me. His ruthless pursuit for data already cost us several subjects during surgery and his absolutely inane security measures would have caused us to lose even more, if not in a successful escape attempt, then in beating down a failed one.

Plans are now in the making to set up a meeting for the remaining subjects, introduce them to one another, perhaps make them feel more comfortable and lower their guard. Proper indoctrination can begin soon after. Heavy security will, of course, be in place, although it will be out of sight so as to not disturb the ambience. Should they decide to try to escape, we will have to rethink our strategy.

A reminder to everyone liable to forget (here’s looking at you, Jones):

We’re currently housing a number of freaks capable of doing all kinds of messed up things, and this list exists to make sure they don’t fuck our lives up beyond repair. All of you are to follow this protocol at all times, no matter what the hell happens, I hope that’s clear.

- These are not children! I cannot possibly stress this enough. They might look like regular kids, hell, some of them might even act like it, but don’t let yourself be fooled. They’re freaks of nature we’re keeping captive. They’ll use and abuse any leeway you give them, so don’t give them any. If you’re responsible for smuggling supplies to them I swear to God I will shoot you myself.
- They aren’t your friends! Related point. They don’t want you to like them, they want you to get them out. Don’t fall for it. Once again, if you’re responsible for a security breach on their behalf I WILL shoot you.
- Address them by their numbers! There’s a reason they have those damn things and that reason is for us to use them. They make sure we’re not inclined to ignore point one and two on this list. I don’t care how friendly the doctors are getting, they are numbers, and you’ll call them that.
- They do not get to meet outside the designated areas! Bose apparently thinks they need a chance to talk to each other. Personally, I completely disagree with him, but he’s the one calling the shots, so I have to go along with him. That said, there are only a few places where they get to interact and those areas are heavily monitored. If you see two or more of them together outside of those areas, tranq them and get them back into their cells.
- Don’t take them on alone! If they start causing problems, do not engage them on your own because you want to prove you’re a badass! People who try that die, especially here! Wait for back-up and/or orders before engaging and act only in self-defense if running isn’t an option. If they’re causing problems we’ll deal with it.
- Don’t fuck with them! Much as I hate to admit, these guys are tough nuts to crack and I really don’t want any of you idiots antagonizing them just to be able to boast to your friends. See points one and two for what I’ll do to you if you do. Fortunately, I have Bose backing me up this, so you know there will be major consequences.

You have been kidnapped and forced to undergo heavy brain surgery in an attempt to improve upon these abilities. Hello and welcome to All in our Minds!

A few things that might not have been clear from the previous intros:

This is supposed to be a character-focused RP. Battles and plot take a back seat to having your characters interact (which isn’t to say either of those can’t happen as a result).

You get to choose one power, which has to be based on the mind in some way, shape, or form (hence the title). Be creative!

As the moderator of this RP, I reserve the right to veto anything that happens in the thread. Should any of you feel I’m being unfair, please tell me, I’ll happily change my mind.

I’m aiming to have around ten players in order to keep it focused and not become too much of a chaotic mess. Whoever’s in first gets the spot, obviously. I might be willing to extend this limit.

You’ll note that I’m Dutch, which means time zones may be an issue, not just for me but for other players as well. I can’t possibly put a rule into place without disrupting the flow of the RP, but be wary of this and make sure you don’t get too far ahead with one or two characters without giving the others a chance to interact with them.

Don’t be afraid to antagonize other characters if you feel it would be in-character for you. Conflict makes things interesting and I’m a sucker for inner conflict.

In general I’m willing to be very lenient as long as what happens makes sense and is fun for everyone involved, because that’s what we’re here for, after all.

Subject Number: 12

Power: Subject 12 can generate exclusionary fields. These fields appear to act as solid objects most of the time. The subject appears to currently only be able to create wedges or spheres. Exploration is being done into whether he will be capable of more complex shapes. The appearance of the fields is transparent and tinged indigo. There is, therefore, no danger of mistaking them for genuine items. The subject appears to be able to selectively choose what can and can't pass through these fields. Because of this the subject is able to use these fields to batter or slice at his surroundings. It is also suspected that they might be able to block psychic abilities from other subjects.

Containment procedures: Subject is to be kept only in his own reinforced rooms. When not in the reinforced rooms the subject is to be sedated. Always confirm sedatives are acting before moving the subject. When entering the room while the subject is not sedated, staff members are required to wear the required compliment of armoured bodygear. Especially the helmet.

Appearance: 5'8", 250 Lbs. Fat, Blue eyes, Bald with the surgical scars clearly visible on his head. His face is set into a permanent scowl lining his face far beyond his years. When he does smile or laugh it tends to be quite disconcerting.

Personality: He is exceptionally single-minded. He tends to walk by forcing others to move out of his way instead of moving out of theirs, and with his strange compulsion to walk in straight lines and shoving people and objects out of his way, or even cutting them with his exclusionary fields when particularly angry. It is believed that this behavior is caused by a complex about his height, weight and premature baldness. (but don't tell HIM that.) Subject seems to relish his new-found power. It is suspected that this is the only reason he cooperates.

Nine. Same as it’s been this whole time…

(Note: Though unorthodox, the subject’s numerical designation was in fact chosen by him, to reflect his name, which can be seen as IX, a roman “Nine”. The Sergeant disapproved, but as there was no Nine already in the facility, he was overruled, and it was allowed.)

And your name?
Oh, we have names again? Alright, then call me Ix. Hahaha, as in, a “boy who is not able satisfactorily to explain what a hrung is, nor why it should choose to collapse on Betelgeuse 7…” Ah, I must admit, my parents were strange folks.

(Note: It isn’t truly known if Ix is in fact the boy’s birth name, if it was a nickname he was given while living with his parents, or indeed if he picked it up on the street after their deaths. We cannot find any records of a boy his age named “Ix”, so the running assumption is that it is a nickname.)

Okay, now please, give us your best estimate as to your age.
Hmm, it’s… winter, isn’t it? Maybe just fall? Well, my birthday is in the summer, and you bastards picked me up in the spring, so I’d have to say eighteen years.

What about your nationality? Where are you from?

(Note: The subject was captured in Atlanta, where he had been living with a woman identified by him as “Angel”. Their connection was unknown, though it is unlikely she would start a massive investigation, as she seemed to believe the story of his falsified death given by the police.)

Just a few more. How would you describe yourself to a stranger?
As a genial, friendly young man, if a bit lacking in ambition, who is exasperated by the situation he has found himself in, and wants nothing more than to live his life in peace, as a space-faring Rastafarian. Seriously, what are you looking for with these questions?

(Note: The subject does seem to be genial towards most of the staff, if a bit terse and sarcastic, but in some cases, he can erupt into fits of rage. All personnel are advised to evacuate the area immediately if this occurs, as his ability can manifest very quickly, and is often completely unpredictable.)

Only one more after this one, Nine. Describe your own appearance.
Well, most obviously, I’m black, and rather dark-skinned at that. I haven’t looked in a mirror recently, but from what I can feel, I have more than a little stubble and a small goatee. Similarly, my hair is very short, only just starting to grow again. Thank you, by the way, for agreeing to shave my head every once in a while. I do appreciate it. Now then, what’s the final incredibly obvious question?

(Note: It was obvious by this point that Nine was getting irritated. His biting stare and sarcastic tone belied a deeper anger, obviously directed toward myself and by extension all of us. I was glad for the restraints holding him down, as well as for the armed guards.)

Last question for today. How would you describe your abilities?
Oh, that? At least this is something interesting... I guess I define them as constructs. Maybe mental constructs? None of you seem very sure what’s happening with them, and neither am I, I just know that they exist, and that they’re real. Neither of us can grasp the physics behind them yet, can we? Anyway, from a semi-scientific standpoint, it seems I can manipulate the fabric of space to… create? Congeal? I can do something to make matter exist where there was nothing before, just with my mind. Pretty bitchin’, right? As you guys have seen, given enough time and with enough concentration, I can control the texture, density, exact spatial dimensions, everything. I could fill this whole room with liquid, kill you all and get out of here scot-free! Ha, without these damned restraints, you pussies would be running scared.

(Note: This is why such an ability is dangerous: versatility. Nine is intelligent, and if he put his mind to it, there is a vast and adaptable variety of objects he could produce. When highly emotional, there is even more danger, as the constructs will abstractly represent his mental state, lashing out at everything around him. Always keep subject Nine either unconscious or completely restrained when outside of his quarters.)

Hrm, what else have you found out about them? Oh yeah, electromagnetic waves do not interact with them at all, oddly enough, and only I really know where they are, through some kind of… psychic connection. Everyone else has to listen for them, feel them, etc. Poor bastards. Haha, and as you won’t stop reminding me, they can only exist when I’m conscious. Anything that completely breaks my focus or knocks me out will cause them to dissipate… Now please, if we're done, take me back to my quarters.

(Note: Recently this “psychic bond” he has with his constructs has allowed him to control their movements telepathically, akin to some kind of weak telekinesis. At this stage, however, the skill is very limited. We hope to see progress soon. Final warning: always be vigilant around Nine. You never know when he might try to pull something off.)

Subject Number: Thirteen

Subject Abilities: Thirteen is Empathic: He is capable of influencing others around him, based on his emotions and feelings. For example, if he were to feel miserable, those within his direct line of sight would feel the same. Alternately, if he was to feel positive, the 'target' would also feel the same, and be influenced in such a manner until outside of his focus. Otherwise, those in close proximity to him, regardless of whether or not he is looking at them, would also be influenced by his emotions and feelings, and the effects would be most amplified upon physical contact. Thirteen is also capable of inducing physical sensations in others, depending on his mood and thoughts, and for example, is capable of inflicting pain of varying degrees upon others (See Incident Report Jehuty-13V). However, so far this has required him to maintain physical contact with the target and directly focus on the matter, and prolonged periods of such activity are known to fatigue him. Also, whilst it is as-of-yet unconfirmed, we believe that Thirteen is also capable of picking up other people's emotions to a lesser extent, though whether or not this is capable of directly influencing him is unknown.

Subject Psyche Profile: Subject possesses a notably short temper, which may prove to be a challenge to both personell and other subjects in the case of a confrontation, as Thirteen's Empathic Abilities may serve only to worsen a situation. Thirteen can be quite easily stressed, particularly when under pressure, which may prove a challenge in future. Reconaissance and extracted school reports indicate that the subject is somewhat willing to challenge authority, and is strongly opinionated, often refusing to co-operate with others if it disagrees with one's opinion. Thirteen has already been involved with several confrontations with personell prior to surgical enhancement procedures, though following this the subject has yet to become confrontational with personell, though they have reportedly become quite agitated when referred to as 'Thirteen', often responding with requests (or, if in a negative mood, demands) to refer to them as 'Nathan', or 'Nathe'. For now, it is advised that personell refrain from engaging in verbal confrontation with Subject Thirteen, and upon feeling unusual emotional changes, are to leave the vicinity and note the matter in later reports. Most recently, Thirteen has complained of headaches of varying severity, no doubt a side effect of the surgical enhancement procedures. When approached, subject entered confrontation with recovery agents, which resulted in Agent █████ recieving severe facial bruising. Containment procedures: All personnel must wear insulated clothing when dealing with Subject 8, metal and electronic implements are not to be used around the specimen due to possible interference leading to the damage of the subject. Custom obsidian and plastic instruments are to be used for all procedures and all electronic equipment is to be triple insulated and heavily surge protected.
Two security personnel are to be situated outside of 8’s cell at all times, both must wear heavy insulation. Each security person is to be armed with plastic tranq rifles only, using only obsidian darts.
STUN WEAPONS ARE NOT TO BE USED ON SUBJECT 8 UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Metal on security is to be kept to an absolute minimum, no security with reconstructive plates or screws are to be placed on Subject 8.

Subject Abilities (Extraordinary): Subject 8 has shown the ability to sense and move electrons. Subject has reported to be able to see the electrical activity in a living organism’s nervous system and to see the wiring in the building’s walls.
Specimen has also shown the ability to generate an electrical charge on her person, her control of this ability is minor at best when conscious but has generated significant charges when unconscious or emotionally stressed.
It should be noted that 8 has the potential to make strong magnetic fields, if this ability is improved upon subject could manipulate metal objects and generate electromagnetic pulses. (Possible ability to manipulate electrons at an atomic level is highly unlikely but should still be noted.)

Subject abilities (Unextraordinary): Subject 8 has been preparing to for a future career in politics and has been tutored from a young age in varying areas of study with the most focus being placed on languages, politics and geography. She has also been trained in etiquette and is very knowledgeable of classes and cultures.

Subject Psych Profile: Before acquisition subject could be described as a “Standard high class pampered little bitch.” as described by a facility observer prior to capture. Noted in more detail to be a demure, frail looking girl but seemed happy.
After acquisition 8 entered an extremely submissive state, surrendering to all procedures willingly (As long as they could be justified by staff, so far only procedures denied were ‘false’ procedures in order to test her submissiveness.)
8 tends to stick to short responses and so far has not resisted any routine procedures, 8 on occasion has gone so far as to prepare herself in anticipation for simple procedures such as blood tests and physicals.

8 was placed in chemically induced stress (exposed to a variety of Neurotransmitters, adrenaline and [REDACTED]) stress made subject’s ability go ‘haywire’ electrical discharge injured staff placed in close proximity, magnetic fields ruined all data gathered and damaged several pieces of equipment.
8 is to be kept in as calm as environment as possible to keep her ability in check.

8 sticks to a very strict routine, despite not having access to any form of timekeeping.

Subject is a member of Dutch nobility and although her family’s influence is neglectable, they are still quite wealthy and as such could possibly affect facility research, Subject 8 was kidnapped and level 6 acquisition protocols were implemented, we are confident that her parents will not further their investigation.

Eight was educated from an early age under the pretense of her one day becoming a diplomat or politician; Eight therefore is more intelligent than would be expected of a 14 year old and is not to be underestimated, she has been trained for situations like this.
