War of the Gods

It was foretold, when the days, from dawn to dusk, were filled with everlasting flames, that those, neither wholly god nor wholly human, would step onto the withering lands. They would be the water cooled the scorched, darkened lands. Where nations failed, even when their mightiest armies standing to the gates, it would be these children of the gods that would be the ray of hope that all had prayed for.
The prophecy spoke of six, a single child from Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Aris, Artemis, and Hermes. As jealous and secretive as their parents, they will squander, they will deceive, but they will forge a unity that stands before the looming tide. The gods will argue out of hubris cultivated from the centuries while blind to the real trials that lay before both mortal and immortal.
Beware those that surround you, for sinister and sin lies within the heart of one.
- Foretelling of Prometheus
The gift of true foresight into the happenings of the future was not one to be mocked or belittled. Though the Titan, Prometheus, proved is loyalty as he fought against his kin when the Olympians rebelled, he was chained to stone as his compassion for man went against the wishes of Zeus. In the chance of showing his regret, he offered this prophecy to the father of the Olympians. The gods, even with knowledge of his foresight, paid him no heed and left the lone Titan to undergo the sufferings at the rock, his just punishment.
Now, many centuries later, as the great empire of Greece, transformed into many small nations, the great Roman Empire became the new Europe, and the lands that lay far behind the great oceans of Poseidon resided the United States. It was only in the modern age did the gods finally see he prophecy slowly start to unfold. Within their age of peace, the Olympians had forgotten the duty to attend the dark keep of Tartarus where the old ones lurked. With their negligence, a storm brews on the horizon that would once again plunge the world into oblivion.

This would be placed within our time. The locations can be varied, but it’d be much more centered in North America with maybe some traveling here and there. The boundaries will need to be confined however, for I fear a huge array of disorganization would ensue if we were to use the whole world as our stage.
Ahem, anyways, the setting would primarily be modern America.
For the most part, this roleplay will start out, in the beginning, as a free roam sort of deal. Our characters will interact independent of each other until a ‘message’ of the gods appears that’ll draw them together. At the same time, there will be many foreshadowing signs that will also warn of happenings that the mortal realm cannot explain nor comprehend.
Given this, extensive use of NPCs and minor characters will be used to push each individual story line forward. Clear guidance will be given through my posts, but I expect each and every role-player within this to be independent. If, however, you choose to collaborate with one another, I'm definitely not against that.
This is a very free roleplay with regards to structure and plots. If any of this is unclear, some more details will be given within the rule section and can also be directed to me, and I’ll elaborate until you are satisfied.
Here are some possible locations that will be utilized within the roleplay. I will update this list as needed.
Willis Tower, Chicago – The portal within North America that connects to Mount Olympus.
Arlington Memorial Cemetery - The portal that leads into the Underworld.
I will list rules that are reside outside the confines of advanced roleplaying standards. Since this is a S:ARG roleplay, I’ll operate under the assumption that we all know that the standards that comprise an Advanced Roleplay.
1. Given the liberty that all characters will have in the beginning, I expect all of you to paint your landscape as well as interact with any NPCs that you see fit. Feeling like a badass? Go give some punk on the street a beat down. Craving to satisfy that thieving nature within you? Go steal the crown jewels of the Queen of England. I think I've made my case.
2. As scary, or surprising as it may sound; I fully condone assuming control of an OC character. Before I’m sent to the guillotine because of the absurdity of such a comment, please allow me to explain. When I say assuming, or better known as autoing another character, I merely refer to allowing another to respond when two characters are in conversation or responding to an action within a scene.
Here’re examples of what I’m getting at. Also, I give credit to Azseth because this was one of his policies within a rolplay that I participated in:
Incorrect way:
Me: “Move,” cried Jason as he pushed Jenny out of the way of the glowing sphere of crackling energy. One touch and it was over. “What the hell Jenny! Get your shit together!”
Another player: “Shut up Jason!” she retorted as she panted from the long grueling encounter the two had been locked in for what seemed lie an eternity. She never wanted to go on the offensive, but Jason and the others had insisted. “I told you it was a bad idea! I told you that the Spectrals were far too strong! None of you listened!”
She huffed as she ran into the nearest alleyway.
Correct Way:
Me: “Move,” cried Jason as he pushed Jenny out of the way of the glowing sphere of crackling energy. One touch and it was over. “What the hell Jenny! Get your shit together!”
Another player: “Shut up Jason!” retorted Jenny as she staggered back. “I told you this was a bad idea!”
Me: Jason gritted his teeth as he looked at the oncoming Spectrals that phased in and out of his dimension. He knew the venture was lost, but he couldn’t bring himself to accept it. “We need to regroup with the others,” he said as he rushed to the nearest alleyway. He heard Jenny run after him as the moans of the Spectral’s trailed after them. “Hurry the hell up! They’re right behind us!”
Another Player: “I’m going as fast as I can!”
Me: “Run faster!” His breathing became haggard as he rounded corners with reckless abandon. For once, Jason was genuinely scared. His thundering heart told him so.
Were you able to see the difference? The incorrect way is to assume the role of another character while the correct way is just giving them action. You can initiate something like the above example, but give room for the corresponding player to add into the action scene as well. Do not dominate but share. I hope this wasn’t too confusing, and I’d be happy to answer or clarify as needed.
3. Let us know if you’ll be a way for a prolonged period of time. If so, we’ll either wait or auto you accordingly. This is to make sure the story keeps rolling; however, I care more about quality, so slow posting is fine with me. If you’re gone for an extended amount of time without responding to my inquiries or notifying myself, I will auto your character or kill them off. I will abuse the ‘kill off’ option. It’s there as my last failsafe.
4. This story is for us all, so have fun with this. I certainly will, and I hope all of you will join me in this fun little plot that I have cooking up! However, if you do alter the story plot, I will not be angry, in fact, I will shower you with praise, for everyone loves a surprise or two, no?
:
As the prophecy above stated, I’m shooting for six individuals to join in on this with me. Also, do note that the gods can change if those listed below do not meet your preference. Just ask me. Each slot below will have exactly one person per:

Hades: Celestial -
Name: Juliana Desparda
Age: 21
Description:
Juliana has a meek and slender build. She just barely stands over 5’8”, which is slightly taller than the average female within the United States. She has medium length black hair that she lets drape over her face as the rest flows down her back. Her eyes a are greyish blue. She has experimented with attempting to dye her hair, but it had constantly faded back to her natural black, and she had long since given up on color change.
Her normal appearance usually involves heavy use of eyeliner while staying away from the other cosmetics that others use. She usually likes to rotate between different options of apparel, but the one thing that they have in common is that each are very dark in color that makes her not stand out too much. On a good day, she will ‘experiment’ with bright colors, but it always makes her feel slightly awkward. Her clothing can border on the lines of absolute formality, casual, or even hints of promiscuity. It really depends on her mood.
Personality:
Everyone who has ever met her has always labeled Juliana as the quiet type. She keeps to herself, yet holding a heavy gaze, which gives others the impression that she knows much more than those of her age. Within her silence, she muses to herself as she talks to herself.
Greek God:
Juliana is a daughter of Hades.
Trait:
Wandering Flame – Juliana communes with the spirits of the dead that have yet to cross the river styx. Being a child of Hades, which consequently appeased her loneliness when she was growing up, sprits of those who had passed or those in the underworld that saw her as a bright flame within the dark and drew immediately towards her. Though her father closely guarded his subjects and his people, namely the spirits of the dead, his personality did not reveal itself when Juliana had taken to speaking with the spirits, for she was slowly leading them to accept the fate of their demise and send them to, what she believed, back into the Earth where all things must return.
Word had spread amongst the spirits, and they, in turn, favored her and returned to speak with her whenever it permits. It’s a mutual phenomenon, for she believes that the dead understand her much more than that of the living. The living had sickened her, for those who still felt the power of life risked losing it through the constant war, murders, and accidents that killed so many and were soon forgotten. It was the dead that shared her view, and are able to communicate with her on a plane of understanding that she had come to accept.
Background:
All Juliana could remember about her mother was what the orphanage guardian had told her. She was killed in an accident, and, with no relatives that were fit to raise her, she was put placed in a federal orphanage where she spent her whole entire childhood. It was this period within her that she discovered that she was different compared to the other children. What made kids squeal in delight didn’t appeal to her whatsoever. She had been called weird when many saw her talking to nothing but thin air though she claimed that a man or woman was clearly there. The orphanage caretakers all attributed it to the trauma she was experiencing with the loss of her mother. It became so bad one day that the orphanage called in a psychologist. Through many tests performed on her, they could find nothing wrong. She was simply imagining or making it all up. Imaginary friends she remembered them calling it.
When she was finally old enough, graduating from high school and left the care of the orphanage, she attended the University of Virginia on a number of federal scholarships. Here she studied psychology in hopes of one day treating others through clinical therapy or, with her true intentions in mind, learns more about why she was hearing and seeing things that others could not. It was only natural that Psychology, the science of studying the mental processes and behavior via the brain, would give her that knowledge. She participated in many lab assistant positions and helped conduct studies in hopes of learning anything about her condition. Though she strived to find a logical explanation behind her abnormality, no answer would reveal itself. As she pushes further into the science, a thought occurred to her. Maybe she wasn’t as normal as everyone else. Maybe her condition was unique only to her. The very thought scared the living hell out of her.
Ares: 101 Scout1 -
Name: Peter Slade
Age: 20
Description: Peter stands at a strong 6’1” tall. His eyes are a sharp, almost sinister grey and he has a rather imposing figure. He’s spent most of his young life focused on exercise and fitness, so his muscle is visible (though he doesn’t work until he’s rippling with too much of it). He took up MMA when he was fifteen, finding it to be one of the best outlets possible, so his figure is fairly lean. Peter’s jaw is often strongly set and there’s just something about his gaze… Something almost bloodthirsty… His hair is short, falling about an inch below the top of his forehead, and coloured in almost black. There’s a crick in his nose where it was broken once, in one of his earliest fights. A light, scruffy stubble runs over his face, under his chin, and over his lip. It has a sort of scratchy quality to it, but no matter how long he leaves it alone, it doesn’t grow out any more than just scruff.
Personality: Pete can be kind of a… well, to be frank, a douche. He’s very arrogant and thinks very highly of himself and his abilities to the point beyond mere self-confidence. He’s also fairly close-minded, believing any idea that isn’t his, is most likely wrong. He refuses to admit when he is wrong, as well. The boy also has violent tendencies, suffering from what some believe to be bipolar disorder. He has outbursts and is always looking for a fight, but at times he can be very charming and charismatic. Everything is a contest, be it by strength or speed or what have you, he’s determined to be the best. Playing off his insecurities and his pride is probably the best way to get a roundhouse kick to your face, an elbow to the temple, or a knee in the diaphragm. He isn’t afraid to the throw the first punch, and he certainly makes sure that he’s the last.
Greek God: Ares
Trait: Physical prowess – Peter is strong and fast. He has astounding reflexes and a mind that is warped into craving war and violence. He absolutely loves adrenaline and the power it instills in him. When he was young, his mother had issues controlling him, raising him on her own. He had so much energy, but no discipline, no matter what she did. She tried physical discipline (not beating him, but like negative reinforcement), but it didn’t help. Nothing she did could, she tried getting him into sports. He actually enjoyed soccer for a while, then football, but when he was eleven, it wasn’t enough, it was physical and violent, but it wasn’t really a challenge in that aspect. She put him in Kenp-o Karate and he fell in love with the entire thing. However, he’d started to watch MMA on television, and loved the way that it fused several different fighting styles. He picked it up to go with his Kenpo, having dropped football, when he was fifteen. He was rising quickly and at seventeen he was a great fighter, and a black belt in Kenpo. He spent the last couple of years expanding his ability to weapons, having learned first how to use tonfas, and then Kamas.
Background: Peter was born in Chicago, Illinois, a city where you either learned how to fight, or you lived in a nicer part of town. His mother couldn't afford to live anywhere else, not alone. The boy came out of the womb kicking and screaming, loudly too. He wasn't the easiest to carry around for all those months, either, but the woman never regretted it. She knew it would be difficult raising him, that having any other children would make it difficult. When he was five, she started trying out different sports, trying to avoid anything with physical contact (to avoid unlocking that side of him), but it was no use, he kept pestering her for something like football. So, she obliged, and flipped completely, finding anything she could to get that energy out of him when he was about nine. At eleven, she put him in Kenpo, and he fell in love, his enthusiasm was great. When he was thirteen, he started to have mood swings... The woman loved that boy with all her heart, but... the day that he had a violent moodswing, in public, and she slapped his hand was the same day that he struck her back, back-handed her across the face. At first, she was appalled, she even started to cry, but she knew that there was something wrong... By this point, she'd been dating a Marine for about a year, and the man absolutely loved Peter. He could relate to the boy, who had moodswings, but he'd managed to control his own, fix his issues through therapy and a lot of work before joining the Corps. He helped Peter find the help he needed and even married his mom a few months later.
At this point, things seemed good, Peter was improving, getting healthier... When he was fourteen, however, things went back, he relapsed for whatever reason. He went absolutely ballistic, and the therapist couldn't help calm him down, he refused to take any kind of medication, as he swore that it didn't help. The therapist was running out of options, so she prescribed something that was a little unorthodox, but not unheard of: A dog. A puppy to bring into the home and for the boy to take care of, under supervision of course, something to give him unconditional love. He picked out the puppy, a German Shepherd/Malamute mix, and after discussing names with his mom and step-dad, they settled on "Adonis." Peter never laid a violent finger on the puppy, but his mood swings did become a little bit stronger. Despite the fact that his marital arts were a semi-violent activity, the therapist did recommend another activity to be taken up, just to help him get more frustration out. He was fifteen and his mother told him he could pick anything. She didn't know that her husband had suggested MMA to the boy in private, but that was his choice, and they let him. The family moved into a nicer neighbourhood outside of the city when Derrik, the Marine, didn't re-enlist in Active Duty, he became a Marine in the Reserves and found a job on the police force as a member of the S.W.A.T. team. However, with Peter's inability to control his tendencies, his craving for each fight and his argumentative attitude, the therapist allowed his dog, who was still only a few years old, to become a service dog. He was sent to training while Peter was in school, learning how to detect mood swings and his shifts in personality. He could even fetch medication. When Peter was put on slightly stronger meds, his mother also recommended (with his consent to the idea) that he start carrying around a sling (a backpack that has a single strap that goes over the chest) that had his meds and anything else in it he needed. Inside was an extendable leash, his medication (in a bag), a folder with his psychological information, his prescription marijuana, and a couple of Adonis' toys. (Note: I'd rather not completely limit the contents of the bag to this, but those are the most important things.)
Apollo: Sebaschan -Character Sheet: SebasChan
Name: Eloise Newman
Age: 21
Description: Eloise has light brown hair that goes down to her shoulder blades, with faint golden highlights that only come out in the sun. She has faintly tanned skin, due to her constantly being in the sun, and gold flecks in her green eyes. Her face is angular with high cheekbones, and her nose is sharp, as if it was chiseled. It is not the most comely feature for a young lady, but it is certainly prominent.
She stands at five foot seven, and has the figure of a lumpy stick. She is as thin and straight as her hair, but it's hardly worried her. It allowed her to pass through high school with little distraction, and so far college as well. She weights approximately one hundred forty pounds, and only knows how to use it in the most dire of circumstances.
Simplicity is her motto, and so Eloise typically wears regular blue jeans or gray pleated skirts with either blouses or sweaters without insignias on them. She also wears her hair back in a ponytail most days to keep it from getting in her face while either studying or playing piano. As for footwear, she typically wears simple, black ballet flats.
Personality: Roleplay, I don't want to lock myself in.
Greek God: Apollo
Trait: Medically adept and proficient in playing the piano
Background: Originally raised in Pensacola Florida by her parents, she was the typically Navy-brat. Never in one seaside town for too long, she found herself rather well traveled. The stress of deployments were too much for her mother, however, so she found herself single again when Eloise was fourteen. Much to her mother's surprise, Eloise took it better than expected. They eventually moved to and settled in Washington, as Eloise's mother was tired of the beach and wanted to move on. The sudden decrease of sunlight stunned Eloise at first, but she grew used to it.
Once she entered high school, she found herself having a tendency to enjoy biology and chemistry more than any other subject. She had dreamed of becoming a doctor her entire life, despite her mother insisting that she take up the piano instead. When she realized how well she was doing in the basics of medicine, she also enrolled in Latin. Eloise worked her GPA with blood, sweat, and tears to be able to get into Washington State, then enter their nation-renowned women's health and pediatrics graduate level school. She has been studying there for the last year, and is planning to take a good vacation for a brief break from eight straight years of intense studying.
Hermes: Irell Starling -
”Try all you like, you’ll never be able to keep up.”
Age: 22
Description: Aion has short chopped black hair that makes her look like a young boy from behind. Her face looks younger than it should be for her age with light freckles spattered across her nose and cheeks. Her green eyes always seem to be flickering around as if they are focuses on taking everything in at once and even when she speaks directly to you she is never completely focused. She stands at 5’3’’ and is lightly built and lean. Most days she wears jeans and a collard, trimmed shirt and matching headband. Aion never wears makeup unless her mother forces her to for special occasions.
Personality: What she is missing in strength she makes up for in speed both mentally and physically and she knows it. A tomboy at heart, she usually gets along with men better, unless they let their ego get the best of them and she has to put them back in their place. Her favorite past time is playing pranks on others.
Greek God: Hermes
Trait: Devine Grace- Aion has a lot going for her between her quick wit and her ability to talk her way out of almost any situation but the this particular gift granted by her father was indeed the best. She has a smoothness about her in the way she walks, in the way she talks, even in the way she deftly reaches into your pocket and swipes your wallet before you even notice. What few people realize is that her grace stems from her quick reflexes and speed.
Background: Aion grew up with her mother and younger sister. In her early ages she was accepted to various educational institutes but as she got older she stopped applying herself. Her mother really never understood why she liked being classified as mediocre since she was capable of more. They often fought about scholarships and other sports programs and Aion’s streak of stealing, even if she did eventually give the owner back their object.
In recent years, Aion moved out and has been attending a community college while holding down a job at a local coffee shop. Although she’d never told anyone, deep down her dream job is to be a circus performer.
Poseidon: Hymusia -
Nickname: Seph
Age: 19
Description: Five feet two inches, no more than nine stone she is lithe and toned with swimmers thighs and toned calf muscles, she has a faint tan but her pale 'British' skin is obvious beneath it as are the smattering of pale freckles that rear their head in the summer. She has long wavy hair which often gets dyed a multitude of colours, currently a bright but deepish red. One would describe her style as, well she doesn't really have style, liking baggy jumpers and skin tight tops and either long flowing skirts or tight leggings/jeans.
Personality: Like water she is calm, serene and adaptable, she does not bend to resistance but flows around it. Hard to anger if one does inflame her rage the fires are often hard to douse, like tempest or raging storm she is devastatingly powerful and ferocious.
Greek God: Poseidon god of the sea and waves.
Trait: Though no one can ever tell for sure (they seem to think they imagine it) her eyes change hue dependent on her mood. In a normal/calm mood her eyes are a very pale greeny blue with light amber flecks. When annoyed/angered/upset they are dark blue almost black with grey flecks. When happy/excited etc they are a bright green with pale blue flecks.
Background: From a young age she was a misfit, still, quiet, calm and intelligent though prone to flying into a rage, her mortal parents placed her into several different martial arts courses to teach her restraint, self discipline and confidence. Now she is in Tai Chi and has become quite the high grade in such. Tai chi being most like water, though she augments what she learned in Tai Chi to defeat the other common martial arts.
A very keen swimmer she has always been attached to water be it swimming, walking by a lake or staring at the ocean. Whenever disturbed or upset her 'happy place' is the beach view from a house she doesn't remember, watching the waves. She has begun to learn deep sea diving as well as apparatus free sea diving though she is still learning.
She is currently studying hard for university hoping to get a degree in sciences and biology to move onto the study of the ocean to fulfill her desire to become a marine biologist, something she has desired ever since she could remember. Last year she swam with sharks as part of a study abroad program and still rates it one of the best experiences of her life (even if it was within the relative safety of an aquarium).
