“It's Mystic Falls, nothing bad ever happens here.”
— Elena to Damon in The Departed
Mystic Falls is a picturesque town located in the southern area of Virginia. Aside from the town’s foundation in 1859 (in the series timeline) by the Founding Families, the town also has a long history of vampires, witches and werewolves. Because of these, Mystic Falls is an Uncanny Village with a Dark Secret. Many famous historical occurrences have taken place in Mystic Falls. There exists a Founder's Council, they secretly guard the town mainly from vampires, and they are seemingly unaware of other supernatural beings, such as werewolves and witches. The Founders Council is an association of the Founding Families, townspeople descended from the original settlers of Mystic Falls, as well as various municipal officials. Outwardly, it appears to be a civic organization dedicated to celebrating local history. Secretly the council's mission is to protect the town from supernatural beings, specifically vampires. Journals written by members of the Founding Families describe vampires and how to catch and kill them are passed down through subsequent generations. The Mystic Falls Daily is the local daily newspaper in Mystic Falls. WPKW9 is the major network television affiliate where Logan Fell worked as field reporter for the newscast and Brady works in tech. Andie Star was also a local newscaster for WPKW9. Mystic Falls is the place where vampires were created over a thousand years ago. Mystic Falls is the place where werewolves have resided in for more than a thousand years. Mystic Falls is the birthplace of most of The Originals. Mystic Falls High School was built on land that was once an Indian village. The town square is where the natives would gather to worship when The Originals were still human. Present day Mystic Falls is where series of events will occur throughout the RP. Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Hunters, and normal Humans: Which one are you? (Everyone will create an original character. No canons. Only canons that will be in the RP will be the Originals)
“These creatures are of the darkest parts of hell. They have the power to control your mind, seduce your spirit. They are deadly, and they must be destroyed.”
— Giuseppe Salvatore about vampires
Vampires are undead immortals who feed and survive on the blood of the living. Humans who have consumed vampire blood and died within 24 hours of doing so will rise undead. The nature of the human's death is irrelevant however the body must be preserved and able to function. Upon mortal death, the undead body will awaken in a state of transition. In order to complete the transition, within the next 24 hours the person must consume an exceptional amount of human blood or else they will die.
During the early Middle Ages of Europe, an old world family abandoned their homeland, soon after a severe virus, known as the plague, spread throughout their village.
With the help of a powerful witch named Ayana, the family traveled to America where they settled in a beautiful unnamed hamlet. However, during their presence in the community, the Original mother, Esther, had an affair with a werewolf, of whom they shared a child. However, after the untimely death of Esther’s youngest child Henrik, Esther was later convinced by her husband to transform their family into the first known vampires.
Blood is the main component of a vampire's diet. Whether it is animal, human or vampire, if a vampire fails to drink blood their body will become severely weak, and will ultimately disintegrate into mummification. Blood (especially human blood) will not only satisfy a vampire’s thirst, but will also increase and their supernatural abilities. The longer a vampire abstains from blood the more likely the vampire will lose all sense of their humanity and rationality until they finally give into their bloodlust. Due to their acute senses, a vampire can detect whether or not a human has recently consumed alcohol or drugs, because their blood tastes unclean and can leave a vampire with a nasty aftertaste.
Vampires are one of the many known supernatural species in The Vampire Diaries Universe. It is known that humans can be changed into vampires, and werewolves can be changed into hybrids.
Vampires themselves are extremely feral, predatory creatures, and far more beast-like and savage than their human appearance suggests. They growl, hiss, snarl, and curl their lips back baring their fangs as signs of aggression when provoked. When they sense danger, they will immediately evade the area. The bite of a vampire can sever the limbs of both animals and humans, as vampires are known for having extremely sharp and strong teeth. Despite their nature, vampires are also capable of human emotions, such as compassion, love, and self-control. However the emotions of vampires are far more intense than the emotions of humans; anger, happiness, hate, love, etc. are much more overwhelming than when they were human. Whenever a vampire is faced with a powerful feeling (such as hunger) their faces transform into a paler complexion, while blood rushes to their eyes with small veins protruding around the area. Their canine teeth will lengthen into fangs, giving them a more predatory look to scare off or threaten their prey. Vampires enjoy stalking and toying with their victims before biting and drinking their blood. Vampires are excellent predators, as they can hunt their victims while remaining unseen. Vampires can suppress their bloodlust to a degree by consuming alcohol.
Powers and Abilities:
These powers grow stronger with age and blood.
Super Strength - Vampires are much stronger than humans and grow stronger with time. Even new vampires who are still in transition can toss a fully grown human across a room with great speed and force. Their strength is also more powerful than werewolves that are not in wolf form.
Super Speed - Vampires can accelerate their movements to cover short distances in an instant, faster than the human eye can see. When running across long distances, they appear as vibrating blurs of motion.
Emotional Control - The supernatural ability to control and manipulate the emotions of one's self.
Dream Manipulation - Vampires can control dreams and subconscious. The vampires can produce and modify dreams, bestow nightmares or lucid dreaming. Other effects of this ability are the distortion of reality and trapped in the dreams.
Heightened Senses - They can hear whispered conversations, even ones in far off buildings, smell blood,
Mind Compulsion - Vampires have the ability to control minds, plague people's dreams, and alter/erase human memories.
Immortality - A vampire stops aging once turned. Upon their transformation, vampires then on become immune to all conventional illness, disease, virus and infection. The only known disease or infection that can kill a vampire is a werewolf bite.
Healing Factor - Vampires can snap their finger bones back into place after being broken and have been seen to fully recover from gunshots, stab wounds, and torso impalement.
Fangs - Vampires can grow fangs which they use to feed; they might come out when a vampire is close to blood.
Weaknesses:
Decapitation: The act of dismembering or removing the head of a vampire will result in permanent death.
Fire or Sunlight: The act of exposing a vampire to fire or sunlight will result in permanent death.
Vervain: The act of exposing or ingesting a vampire with vervain causes a vampire to become severely feverish and weak. Also, if a vampire's skin is exposed to vervain, it can result in burning them. Also vampires can’t compel anyone on vervain.
Wood: The act of wounding a vampire with wood will cause the vampire to become severely weak and if a vampire takes a wooden stake through its heart it will result in permanent death.
The Gilbert Device: The Gilbert Device is a powerful tool enchanted to bring excruciating pain upon vampires.
Heart Extraction: The act of extracting or removing the heart of a vampire will result in permanent death.
Invitation: Vampires cannot enter a home without an invitation by the owner.
Magic: Vampires are susceptible to the powers of witchcraft. It is been said but never proven that a witch with enough power can kill a vampire, other magical methods can harm them.
Desiccation: Vampires who abstain from blood for extended amounts of time will eventually desiccate into mummification.
Vampire Bloodline: If an Original vampire dies, all vampires descended from their bloodline will slowly perish.
Werewolf Bite: The bite of a werewolf is extremely lethal to vampires.
Dagger: Although never seen, it has been said if a vampire daggers an original, they will die.
Esther (The Original Witch): Esther has stated that she can reverse the vampire spell and when her children were linked, presumably all vampires would’ve become human.
“If it were a choice, it wouldn't be called a curse. Werewolves will attack humans, but instinct and centuries of rivalry have hardwired them to hunt their prey of choice... vampires.”
— Vanessa Monroe on werewolves
Werewolves (also called Lycanthropes) are a near-extinct supernatural species of individuals which unwillingly transform into fearsome and extremely hostile wolves during full moons. Even in their human form, all werewolves do possess superhuman physical prowess. Werewolves are the most dangerous enemies of vampires because a bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire. Werewolves are designed to kill vampires on sight in their wolf form. Though they still hunt human prey when there are no vampires to kill. Not much is known about the history of werewolves except that they existed before vampires were created over 1,000 years ago. Who created them, how they were created, when exactly they were created and the reason for their creation is currently unknown but since they call their supernatural condition a curse, it may very well be a magical curse placed on the original members of their species by witches. However, if this is the case, it has yet to be proven. Werewolves actively populated the 'New World' during the early Middle Ages as Viking invasions began in Europe. Most, if not all, of the land's inhabitants were werewolves and they lived alongside one another in villages. They also lived alongside humans and, to protect their loved ones, they made sure that they had access to natural means of protection for them. One of the most notable locations of a werewolf village was the location of Mystic Falls. Beneath the area was a series of tunnels that provided protection for the humans when the werewolves turned on the full moon. One clear rule of the village was that the humans were forbidden from being with the wolves when they turned.
A notable event in the history of the werewolves comes with the arrival of inhabitants of the 'Old World' where a plague had been devastating the population. The newcomers included Mikael, his wife Esther, and Esther's witch mentor and friend, Ayana. Having lost their child in Europe, Mikael and Esther wanted to be able to raise a family free from illness and Ayana had led them to the New World where they could live in peace. The villagers accepted the new family and they became an integral part of of the village life with Ayana become the local healer and contact with the spirits. Mikael and Esther finally built a family, giving birth to five sons and a daughter: Elijah, Finn, Niklaus, Kol, Rebekah and Henrik. However, when Henrik and Niklaus broke the rule one night and went to see the wolves turn, Henrik was killed by the turned wolves. Determined to not lose any more family but not wanting to run anymore, Mikael and Esther used a forbidden ritual to turn their children and Mikael himself into indestructible beings with stronger and more attuned reflexes than the werewolves, a race that would later be known as the vampires. However, the newly-turned family's lust for blood led them to shatter the peace of their village, feeding on the innocent inhabitants of the town. When Niklaus made his first human kill, Esther's darkest secret came to light: Niklaus was not Mikael's son but the son of one of the werewolf villagers. Killing a human activated his werewolf gene and he turned into a vampire/werewolf hybrid. Furious at his wife's betrayal, Mikael slaughtered her lover and half of the remaining villagers, igniting the war that had since lasted between vampires and werewolves. After the slaughter and their mother's death at Niklaus hands, the Original family scattered and begun traveling the Old and New Worlds, turning other people into vampires. The war between vampires and werewolves came to a head when vampires discovered that a bite from a werewolf could kill them, and therefore set about massacring the entire werewolf race. The werewolves were driven to near-extinction by the massacres and later turned vampires even began to believe that werewolves were a mere myth. In reality, werewolves had survived and reorganized themselves into packs to help one another evade the vampires and also help each other through their very painful transformations.
Werewolves are known to be aggressive, strong and fast even in human form. Those with the werewolf curse still latent can exhibit some supernatural traits which can be triggered by aggression, along with unusual physical strength for the person's given size and age but they cannot fully transform and they also black out when they go blind with rage for no reason. Also werewolves have a higher body temperature than humans. With the curse activated their eyes turn yellow (the eyes of a wolf) while enraged. While some werewolves prefer to keep to themselves and keeping their beastly natures hidden, most seem to aggregate themselves into packs and residing in areas isolated from general human society.
Like normal people, werewolves can eat normal food if they choose to. However, because they turn into ferocious beasts during the full moon, they are flesh eating creatures. When they feed, it is absorbed throughout the body and they need to consume organs or body parts, but they do not have to feed in order to prolong their existence like Vampires. There are no known side effects in the absence of devouring victims in werewolf form. It seems that most werewolves do not get to feed because of the fact that most tend to lock themselves up during the full moon, or that before or after they make a kill, they're scared off before they get to chance to truly feed. Werewolves have not been seen to attack each other in human or lupine form, but have been known to hunt both human and vampire prey while transformed under the full moon. Werewolves seem to have an urge to attack vampires regardless of what form they are in.
Werewolves are very similar to Witches when it comes to their own kind. Unlike the vampires, werewolves are more sworn to loyalty and may bond with other werewolves they meet. They work with each other as sort of an extended family. The bond of loyalty between werewolves is strangely strong, while changed under full moons, the only things they do not attack are other werewolves (triggered curse or not). This code does seem to extend to Klaus' hybrids too. It's possible that the only reason why Klaus' hybrids are loyal is because of their werewolf heritage. Though vampires have been known to "Sire" too, but it's rare.
Werewolves in their wolf form have the appearances of an ordinary wolf, but with glowing yellow eyes and a much larger and brute-like appearance. When there is the full moon after sunset they will transform into a canine form, looking very much like a timber-wolf, although larger. They can also be distinguished from regular wolves by their displays of supernatural strength, speed, and overall size. The fur color of wolf forms differs from one to the other. Werewolves appear the same as any other human the rest of the month, apart from the full moon.
A werewolf has to kill a human in order to trigger their werewolf gene in order to activate their powers. It also does not matter if the curse was activated accidentally, or it was intentional. After the gene is triggered their eyes will turn yellow and their powers will activate instantly. A Werewolf who has yet to trigger his or her curse will only exhibit increased aggression and overwhelming fits of rage during nights of the full moon.
A werewolf will only transform in to a wolf under a full moon. The first transformation is quite slow and the person is subjected to at least five hours of intense pain before transforming. After the first transformation it will get faster but still hurt. During the transformation, the body of the person is twisted in an unnatural manner as bones reshape and shift to form a wolf skeleton, causing the person immense pain. Later the person grows excessive body hair and becomes feral and huge eyes that glow yellow and fangs, then in minutes the werewolf will become a wolf. A werewolf returns to their human form in after a few hours. After the first transformation the werewolf will experience muscle aches. Older werewolves can control themselves to some extent on the night of the full moon. Werewolves are NOT affected by silver. That was a myth created by werewolves themselves.
Powers & Abilities:
Super Strength - Werewolves are much stronger than any human. They are not as strong as a vampire whilst in human form but when it is a full moon they are more powerful than Non-Original Vampires.
Super Speed - Werewolves are extremely faster than any human and non-Original vampire. Werewolves can use this ability in either Human or wolf form. Under the full moon, Werewolves can use their speed in wolf form to even swiftly chase down Vampires.
Super Agility - Werewolves possess superhuman agility. They can move, jump, climb, and run incredibly fast without difficulty or exhaustion.
Super Durability - Werewolves can take far more trauma than Humans can without much discomfort or injury. They can also exert themselves without much tire.
Healing Factor - Werewolves possess superhuman regenerative abilities, meaning if ever injured, their bodies will heal near- instantaneously. Werewolves have also been said to heal exactly as fast as vampires. Even in human form.
Lie Detection - Werewolves are able to sense if you're lying or not.
Super Senses - Werewolves have the extremely keen senses of smell, sight, taste, and hearing inherent in all canines.
Werewolf Bite - The bite of a Werewolf is extremely lethal to normal Vampires but not to an Original.
Anger - When a Werewolf is furious, their anger increase all their powers and abilities for a short period of time, as well as can have an advantage over a Vampire.
Full Moon - Werewolves' powers and abilities are enhanced and are at their peak during a full moon.
Shapeshifting - During a full moon, they will unwillingly turn into wolves.
Weaknesses:
Broken Neck: By breaking a werewolf's neck, it results in instant death.
Wolfsbane - When ingested, wolfsbane causes a werewolf to become severely weak and feverish. Although, if a werewolf's skin is exposed to wolfsbane, it will result in burning them.
Gilbert Device - Invented by Jonathan Gilbert (Enchanted by Emily Bennett), the Device was a weapon designed to emit a high-frequency noise that could only be heard by vampires and werewolves.
Decapitation - If the head of a werewolf is dismembered, it results in death.
Magic - Witches are able to curse and inflict supernaturals aneurysms that cause the blood vessels of werewolves to explode.
Heart Extraction - If a werewolves' heart is ripped out, it will cause instant death.
“Now, in reality, or in this reality at least, witches appear to cross every culture in history. They're the architects of the supernatural; responsible for everything that goes bump in the night from ghosts to vampires to doppelgangers.”
— Atticus Shane to his occult class in The Five
Witches are a supernatural species of humans that possess magical powers. By connecting themselves with the elements and forces of nature, witches uphold their sacred duty as the Servants of Nature to maintain balance within the world and combat the forces that seek to disrupt the balance.
While the origins of witchcraft remains a mystery, witches have existed for many centuries, passing down their knowledge and skills through generations in family lines.
Magic, or Witchcraft, is the power to effect change by magical means. Magic can often be split into dark and light; though depending on the situation can also be neutral. Magic is a genetic heredity that connects a witch to the elements and forces of nature in order to practice sorcery.
The witchcraft in The Vampire Diaries consists of several types of magic.
Innate Magic: A form of magic that taps into the internal resources of the witch. This type of magic is the most convenient and quickest to use, though a witch's energies are limited and can cause pain and discomfort for over-use. Because of this limitation, witches must learn to draw upon external sources of power to not tax upon their own abilities and therefore can only cast minor spells. As a witch's power grows with training and experience, they are able to perform more powerful feats of magic.
Channeling Magic: A form of magic that involves utilizing the energies of the surrounding elements and celestial events. This magic is similar to spirit magic, however channeling usually taps into the power on Earth. Channeling magic can also allow a witch to tap into the power of another witch, however some sort of conduit (e.g. personal item) or connection (e.g. bloodline) is usually required to focus the specific energies.
Spirit Magic: A form of magic that calls upon the aid of spirits. It is commonly used amongst the witches in the series as it is considered a major source for witchcraft. Since witches are the servants of nature and their purpose is to maintain the balance, they use the power that the spirits provide by calling out for them.
Dark Magic: A form of magic draws upon malevolent powers and is fueled by the darkest aspects of witches themselves such as negative emotions and tempation. This magic is extremely powerful, seductive, and addictive as it has no boundaries. Despite it's free use, it defies the authority of the Spirits of Nature and though the spirits themselves cannot stop use, witches can be severely punished.
Expression: An unnatural form of magic that involves channeling the souls of dead humans and releases darkness that cannot exist on Earth without corrupting and destroying it. Expression is considered extremely dark, perhaps more so than dark magic. Because of its horrible nature, many witches do not even consider it to be magic.
By tapping into supernatural and elemental forces, witches possess a host of magical abilities. With experience and adequate training in witchcraft, these powers will grow stronger.
Spell Casting: The act of changing and controlling events by magical influence.
Channeling: The act of channeling or drawing other forms of energy and power by focusing on celestial events.
Conjuration: The act of calling, commanding, or summoning an element, object, person, or spirit already in existence.
Elemental Control: The act of controlling and manipulating the elements of air, earth, fire and water and weather.
Mind Control: The act of controlling and manipulating the minds of humans. (Similar to Compulsion)
Mind Stunning: The act of bemusing and rendering someone unconscious.
Pain Infliction: The act of creating and inflicting excruciating pain upon another person, especially vampires.
Precognition: The act of foreseeing future events and happenings.
Telekinesis: The act of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons.
Potion-making: The act of brewing and concocting supernatural elixirs and potions that contain mystical properties.
In addition, witches are naturally immune to forms of manipulation such as hypnosis or mind compulsion. However this immunity is ineffective against the magical manipulation of other witches. Some witches can attain longevity, which allows them to temporarily extend their lifespan and maintain their youth. However, longevity is not a common trait amongst witches and is acquired through spells, herbs, and potions. Witches have also been displayed to have some degree of psychic sensitivity.
Relationships:
Nature-
One of the major sources of power for witches originates from the Earth, which is considered the purest form of magic. Witches are psychically attuned to Nature allowing them to “literally” feel the Earth. In addition, witches can also channel energy from the elements.
Spirits-
Colloquially known as the Spirits of Nature, spirits are highly involved in the activities of witches. Spirits often commune and aid witches in their rituals and spells. Being the conscience of Nature, they establish the sacred laws and guidelines of witchcraft. While many witches are faithful servants of these spirits, some witches defy their laws and are often punished. Spirits can also be channeled as an additional power source in witchcraft.
Vampires-
Witches mostly have a natural distaste for vampires as they are commonly perceived amongst their community as abominations. Vampires have a notorious history (particularly Klaus) of employing the aid of witches to perform various spells for their advantage such as the creation of Lapis Lazuli, which provides vampires with magical protection from daylight. Despite this, many witches have willingly associated themselves with vampires having befriended or serving them.
Werewolves-
Though witches and werewolves have very little interaction, they are known to be the oldest of supernatural creatures as both predate the existence of vampires.
Witches-
Similarly to werewolves, witches are bonded by a code of loyalty to help and protect each other, commonly being regarded as members of an “extended family” (portrayed with many characters making references to one another such as “sister” or “brother”). However, some witches defy this bond and act solely for their own personal gain. Contrary to popular mythology, witches do not form covens and are primarily solitary practitioners, though on occasion they may combine forces to achieve a common goal.
According to Rebekah, if a witch is transformed into a vampire, their magical powers will vanish. As she (and possibly her siblings) would have been a witch if she wasn't turned into a vampire. Witches are the most powerful supernatural creatures in this world.
Weaknesses:
Fear: A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the condition or feeling of being afraid could cause a witch to temporarily lose their powers.
Mortality: Based off the fact that witches are still human, they share many of the same weaknesses as non-supernatural beings (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, suffocation, etc.)
Overuse Of Magic: The excessive use of magic could lead to several ailments such as nosebleeds, headaches, fainting and in extreme cases death.
