The Academy of Vendace Halls
To whom it may concern,
I, Head Master Vladimir Socratic, am pleased to notify you of your acceptance to The Academy of Vendace Halls. Before I enlighten you as to why you will be attending this school there are a few things that I’ll need to shed light on for your sake.
As you know The Academy of Vendace Halls is a school for the supreme. We only accept those who we believe can endure our academy. The enrolment of every student is not without reason; every student has their place and it is up to them to discover it. I hope you discover yours.
My school’s reputation subsists between non-existent to only an occult following. I need to state that whatever you have heard about in regards to my school is merely rumours. My students are sworn to secrecy the moment they step foot through my doors, thus any horrendous rumour you have heard is not true.
Due to your high achievements and excelled skills we have put forth your enrollment without denial. Over the years your skills and attributes have been observed very closely and it is to my great pleasure that I now enroll you into my academy. You sustain the capabilities to graduate and I hope you use them well enough to do so. As a student not only will you engage in customary learning but in addition activities/classes that will strengthen your core species, whatever that may be. Should you ‘carry on’ graduating, your abilities will be at their peak which can only be achieved through attendance of The Academy of Vendace Halls.
Semester 1 starts the 1st September. The delayed will not be tolerated.
‘Welcome to Hell’s Academy; where the definition if insanity is not being paranoid,’
The atmosphere was dense, clouds overcastted the blue, forbidding any rays of illumination to flicker through. A fusion of emotion penetrated the air. The assemblage of new students was large and even though the grand doors to the school had not yet been opened for them there already stood a chain of command; a hierarchy. Nobilities winced at the approach of the plebeians and as a result the scent of blood already infused the air.

'A word of advice; wise it would be to not depart the safeness of one's bed at the time of darkness,'
A heavy mist that reduced visibility; a thick fog stood in front of her. However it rested immobile, as if halted. It appeared to only circle the outside greenhouse. A circle of fog, it would seem. Lavion presumed this was the source of the biting wind. Approaching it timidly the little werewolf held her hand up at the barrier, allowing its touch to meet hers. It was below zero, sharp and piecing. Lavion couldn’t defy the desire to enter the mist. Arms length into this peculiar vapour the little werewolf crossed the threshold inquisitively.
Upon commencement of her screams, the little werewolf discovered that the harmony is nonentity if the audience is earless.

'I love it when you scream my name Head Master,'
Carnage and bloodshed painted the room. Upon examining the scene of the murder, Socratic’s eyes widened at the sight of the bloody mess. Slowly stepping inside he felt the cold presence of the Zagan at his back. Kicking aside the turned down chair that impeded his pathway, with aggression he approached the mangled body of the young mutant. As his thumb and index finger kneaded the bridge of his nose he spoke to Zagan, who, in spite of the macabre scene that bestowed itself before him, leisurely continued his way,

A female, whose aura glowed a blinding white, leisurely made her way around the new comers – simply observing the species she was to interact with. Majority bestowed a face of disgust and repulsion at the sight of her; pure angels had that affect on others. The disgust stemmed from the fact that everything about this female dazzled with angelic purity; a quality most species cannot even begin to define. Rosalina Bell glued her eyes down to the earth as she moved with poise through the crowd back towards a rebellious looking male, situated on the sidelines, smoking. When one looked at him, it was not unusual for them to be somewhat puzzled as to which class he fell into; demon or angel. The atmosphere around him was fly, one could say cool, though he full of his own self-importance. Smugly aligned with the small wall, a cigarette in one hand and the other in his pocket, Christopher blew the recycled smoke up at the approach of Rosalina.
“Nervous?” he asked he as she reapproached him.
“There aren’t a lot of pure angels here,” she answered disregarding his question.
“There aren’t a lot of you left.”
“Yes the plebeians do outweigh the noble here. I do wish I hadn’t received acceptance to this academy.”
“Careful with that talk Rose,” he raised one eyebrow at the passing mass, “these...people... might have something to offer,” raising both eyebrows at a particular passing mass of hair and muscle he continued, “and some of them might take offence.”
"I didn't mean anything spiteful about it. I'm speaking on my behalf of my safety," she replied innocently blinking wide eyed at him.
Christopher inhaled his cigarette once more as he rubbed his left temple, her innocence was going to get them both into some type dilemma.
"At least you've only got a little voice Rose."
Rose’s eyes followed the thing which she could only assume was some giant mixbreed as it walked towards the stairs, the doors dwarfing even its shoulders.
At the other side of the clearing, two beings appeared, one male, one female; the male stood tall and proud, a dark scrutinizing scowl on his features as he looked around at the lower classes of being. He held a particular aura, a dark and stern one – everything about him screamed dominance; something which gained the attention of other students as they stared at him with malice and hate in their eyes. Most didn’t recognise him – although, the second they heard his name, they would know exactly who they were dealing with.
To his right, the female stood – a blunt and bored expression on her face as her lips turned down into a small pout. Her body language was much the same, she leant most of her body weight on the hand which was placed on her waist, while her head was tilted slightly to the side – everything about her screamed that she simply didn’t want to be there.
The male folded his arms over his chest, his gaze flickering to his companion before scanning the crowd again,
‘For the love of all that is evil, Melody, try to make at least, decent acquaintances in this place,’ he stated in a cold, emotionless tone. A small smirk befell her features,
‘What are you saying – I’m a bad judge of character?’ she queried, sounding hurt, yet amused – she was obviously mocking him; his gaze shifted back to her as he sent a slight glare her way,
‘What I’m saying is, I wouldn’t put it past you to befriend a Screamer or some other waste of existence,’ he muttered; her brow furrowed into a look of confusion,
‘What’s a screamer?’ she asked, her gaze shifting to the ground – as if she was going to find the answer to her question down there,
‘Exactly,’
At the sound of the grand doors unbolting, silence befell the newcomers and after an extended amount of time, Head Master Socratic emerged dressed in his cleric uniform. He gazed apathetically at his new students, holding their gaze, securitizing them.
“Welcome to my Academy of Vendace Halls,” his words were formal with a voice of authority, “you have all been accepted to attend my school for individual reasons. My staff and I do sustain a sense of thrill and are all eager to see how you endure your time here. It is inevitable that in the coming weeks you will start to create enemies and I suppose friendships too. You will begin a particularized schedule in which you must attend. You will also start to explore ways to fill your days and evenings – with the less tangible part of your education here - the student experience. Aside from the outstanding education you will receive at Vendace Halls, I can tell you from personal experience that for Vendace Hall’s graduates, it is overwhelmingly the student experience that stays with us and you for that matter, the longest,” Socratic chuckled at this, it seemed to amuse him.
“There are literally hundreds of groups on campus, and endless opportunities to assist in your graduation. I encourage you to get involved. Dreams are born and are challenged; some survive and grow; others die. You will certainly see me walking around campus and dropping in to unexpected places like the residence dining halls. I wish you all the best for a stimulating and rewarding, challenging four years on this campus, which will be the start of what I hope will be a lifelong experience as members of the Vendace Hall’s family.”
As he finished his speech he held the stillness for a moment before turning on his heel and re-entering the school. The students stood in silence as they observe the grand doors open up to them in an almost intimidating fashion.
“The beginning of the end,” Christopher mocked the cold voice of the head master as he nudged Rosalina’s side, “it’s saying ‘walk into your impending doom’.”
“Agreed that Socratics words were evidently mocking the fact that half of these students will not be graduating,” Rosalina answered indirectly.
“Don’t worry Rose, I got your back covered,” Christopher replied smugly as he stepped aside in order to let her pass him, indicating with his hand for her to be the forerunner. She showed reluctance, breathing in deeply with her eyes closed and holding the air for a second before exhaling. “Perhaps,” she held her head high as she elegantly moved past him, “but who has your back Chris?”
Instinctively he glanced all-round, catching the eyes of a hunched black clad individual, glaring back. This personage gave the impression that he was verging to charge at Chris. Chris scowled, his entrance to the school being delayed. He shuffled sideways so as to avoid a group of noble looking initiates but the glare of the hunchback didn’t waver from his eyes. He sighed deeply clenching his right hand as the hairs on his arms uplifted, charging with ambient static, prepared for the hunchbacks charge,
“Chris?” the tiny voice of Rosalina, oddly loud in his ears, “could I maybe see the school for the first time without the screaming?”
His watch detached from the hunchback’s, little by little as he twisted to face Rosalina’s pleading expression, so she was nervous after all.
The two Demons watched the interaction between the – they weren’t quite sure what he was – and the hunchback with interest. Vincent sighed before passing him briefly, not bothering to look at the mere waste of existence, as he saw it anyway. Melody followed close behind, quickly pausing to look at the boy who had just stopped the hunchback right in its tracks; there was no denying it, the kid was powerful, she only wondered to what length his power extended to. Vincent had mastered the element of Fire and wasn’t far off Air; Melody was still having trouble mastering. As fast as she had captured it, she broke eye contact with the boy and continued on, down the hall, after her friend.
Vincent looked down at the elegant looking blonde as he passed her; there was no denying it, one had to simply look at her and know she was an Angel – a Pure Angel at that; they were hard to come by these days. His dark eyes moved from her to straight in front of him once more as he quickened his pace and placed his hands in his pockets – he wasn’t in the mood for social activity, especially if it meant having to get blood on his new suit.
‘Hurry up, Melody,’ he stated firmly, ordering her to come into line with him, which she silently obliged, breaking into a jog to catch up to him.
‘Welcome to Hell’s Academy,’ she murmured with a smirk, ‘where the definition of insanity is not being paranoid,’

The crowd was too much for Karen. She had expected new smells, but she hadn't expected this.
Karen brushed her light brown hair out of her eyes, her nose twitching like crazy, her fingers scratching at the right pocket of her jeans. She couldn't help it. It was bad enough to have to stand in a crowd of, you know, normal people and have to smell everything about them: What they'd had for breakfast, what they'd washed their hair with, their unwashed hands, the crud between their teeth, the sweat rolling down their backs... But this was worse. She got to smell all that, and she got to smell blood, brimstone, fur - and all the smells that accompanied the "wonders" of still developing young adult bodies. Just to top it off, she could hear people in the throng mocking others for being 'low-bloods' and similar terms.
Yeah, she decided, after getting a whiff of some unwashed... something. I need noseplugs. And earmuffs.
It didn't help that she felt so tiny before this damned castle of a universi--... school-- what would you call it? She didn't know anything about 'Vendace Halls' besides what she'd gotten in the letter, and it was too cryptic. Now that she was here, Karen knew there was something very magical and very real about it, but she wasn't sure she liked it just yet. She felt so out of place, standing there with her grey hoodie (with the hood pulled back), her blue jeans, her mechanical pencil and her gray-and-blue backpack. She was pretty sure people knew she was out of place, too, and were giving her odd looks.
And that's just what I need, she thought with a sigh. I'm too freaky for normal people and too normal for freaky people. Wonderful. Just... wonderful.
Well, there wasn't any point in complaining about it. Here she was: Karen Roth, a rat among a bunch of... other things. It could be worse.
The headmaster (or the man she assumed was the headmaster, but his natural air of authority and the fact he was the sole speaker) welcomed them to the campus. He was... cold, for sure. The way he said 'die' suggested it was quite literal... Which wasn't something in the fine print of the letter Karen had received. Yet, somehow, she felt a little more at home because of this speech. She couldn't explain why, but despite the bitter 'Oh, great' running through her head at the idea of actually dying at college-- Oh, whatever you call it--, she... Well...
It was hard to describe, but there really was something likeable about the situation. Maybe she just had a death wish.
The big doors opened, and somehow Karen found herself nearer the front of the pack than she'd remembered (that, or everyone was simply too eager to get on in that she was pushed up there). She would have checked to make sure nothing from her pack had gotten stolen, but she was more than perceptive enough to know that wasn't the case. Besides, nobody wanted whatever she had, except maybe to use her face as a knuckle-rest. Luckily, nobody paid attention to her, which was the usual, and was just the way she liked it. The moment she was inside, she found a good place to step aside and let the push-and-shove crowd get going already. She needed a few moments to take a breath, absorb her surroundings, rub the nasty smells out of her far-too-keen nose, and catch sight of a massive hunchback staring down a handsome guy with a steely face, or was it the other way around?
Karen blinked, and she watched that for a moment... and noticed the fact that she wasn't the only person interested in that scene. Two people who had a wrong sort of air about them (the guy more than the girl) were watching with interest, though they started passing on by shortly afterwards. "Hurry up, Melody," Karen overheard the snappily-dressed guy say, and his girl (girlfriend?) began to follow.
Karen decided that that guy sounded like a jerkass, but she decided not to dwell on it. She probably wouldn't meet him again, after all. It was a big school, and besides, who was she to judge? Though... The way those two had watched the 'showdown' between the handsome guy and the hunchback had been-- well, interestingly interested. Was it respect? Did they realize something she didn't?
Again, it wasn't worth dwelling on. Karen started making her way toward... well, where everyone else was heading. They obviously knew where to go better than she did. She just hoped they weren't going somewhere she wasn't supposed to go.
Next time you're about to accept invitations to strange places you've never been invited to, Karen, ask yourself: Is it REALLY a smart idea? Karen sighed again, and she shrugged her right shoulder to balance the weight of her backpack as she plodded on.

Many scents lingered throughout the air at Vendace Halls. The most powerful of all scents, though, was blood. With nobles and plebeians lurking about the grounds as they waited for the grand doors to open and invite them all inside, blood was inevitable. For Zachariah Arkel blood was to be expected. In fact. Without a coating of blood on his lower jaw, Zachariah would not appear his normal way.
Today was no different.
Moments Earlier
Zachariah was lurking through the crowd that swarmed in front of the impressively grand piece of architecture that calls its self Vendace Halls. There were all kinds of creatures flitting about. Each and every one of them sticking to their groups and following the chain of command. It wasn't hard to point out the difference between nobles and plebeians. The nobles strutted about with their heads up high and their eyes angled in such a way so that they could watch and laugh over all that stood beneath them. Everyone else, to put it lightly, were the plebeians. As he lurked about the crowd, Zachariah kept his eyes wandering about as he looked for anyone that seemed challenging.
Doing his usual and not paying attention to the things in front of him, Zachariah managed to slam shoulders with a stern looking boy and knocked him to the ground. The group that surrounded this boy all dropped to the ground and attempted to help him up while muttering "Are you okay, sir?" "Are you hurt, sir?". The boy waved them all away with a flurry of angered swipes and stood up immediately.
"You piece of trash, I had just bought this suit today. Do you even know who I am?" he said whilst attempting to brush the dirt off his suit.
"Not a fuckin' clue, yah majesty. Now get out of my way, weakling." Zachariah said as he walked past the group, each one of the members glaring at him with fiery passion.
This comment seemed to have touched a few nerves in the boy as a bolt of fire blasted by Zachariah's head leaving a couple strands of hair smoking.
"My name is Alexander Cornhaven III. My father, Alexander Cornhaven II is a Pure Demon, you plebeian. As his son, I could buy your life in an instant if I wanted to. I could own anyone here if I wanted! You, though.. you I'm going to kill." Alexander ranted as he aimed another fireball for Zachariah.
"Oh really? In life only the strong will survive. If you're weak, you best get out of my way. Are you weak, little Alex?"
Present Time
Blood dripped from Zachariah's mouth. His body trembled from his excitement. A scorch mark blazed his torso. In fact it looked like he had just lost a fight. Though the blood was not his and the scorch mark was from a fairly weak fireball that he was hit with. In his arms, however, was a boy by the name of Alexander Cornhaven III. Scared witless he appeared to have wet himself. The boy wanted nothing more than to run, except for one problem. Behind him stood Zachariah Arkel. He had Alex held completely in place with his head yanked to the side. Just above his neck, resting on the skin, were Zachariah's fangs. The blood that coated his teeth already wasn't from Alexander's neck. It was from a mixture of his left index finger, which was bitten off, and from the upper part of his left arm. Which now has a chunk missing from it.
"Sure you could buy me, weakling, but I can kill you any time I wish." Zachariah growled into Alexander's ear.
"Y-Y-Y-Yes. I'm s-so sorry. Please. Please just let me go. Please!" he begged.
With a lurch the boy slumped to the ground in a heap as Zachariah let him go. Having lost all interest in the broken boy, Zachariah turned around and started to depart towards the main doors.
"Heh.. Yeah.. You run away, trash. I'll get you next time. Just wait until my father hears about this. He'll--" The boy was interrupted when suddenly a foot dug into his face, breaking his nose and jaw. Zachariah could hear Alexander's muttering and swiftly spun around and slammed his foot into the boy's face.
"Hmph, you weaklings are all the same. Hiding behind the strongest person you see. Well you can all die, 'cause you'll never survive in this world! That goes for all of you, just sitting there and watching! Hah!"
Zachariah walked away laughing as Alexander's lackies all rushed around their fallen leader and helped him up. It took him a minute or two of pushing and shoving just to make it to the front doors. Just in time too, as the grand master of the school emerged from the front of the building. Like every head of any company or business, the old man had to waste everyone's time explaining what exactly they had just signed themselves up for by accepting the invitation. Zachariah himself had his split second worries about the appearance of the letter, but those were drowned down by the thoughts of reigning supreme above all of the nobles as he tears them down from their high horse.
His venture into the grand building was halted by a small group of people, a few of which looked strong. The main issue at hand was one boy whom seemed to be staring down a giant of a hunchback, whom was standing in the doorway and blocking everyone's way. Zachariah was about to call the boy out and yell at him for wasting everyone's time, but as quickly as the incident occurred it had ended. Pleased by the ending of the hindrance, Zachariah continued to enter the building with every other noble that had placed themselves in front of the crowd. There may have been a chain of command already listed, but none of it mattered to him. If you weren't strong, you were weak. Weak always stood below the strong, and that is makes the world go 'round.

Crake stood in the crowd, for once his eyes were not glued to his book. They were darting around, absorbing everything. There were so many new things to study, class and catalogue. It was almost too much. But this was the challenge he had been hungry for, a new environment to learn, a whole new world of things once only theorised about.
Very few payed crake any attention, which suited him well. Only the small pale girl by his side noticed him getting taller as he tapped is hoot on the cobblestone, making it rise inch by inch. She giggled and continued to plays with a small feather. With each inch his circle of vision grew and revealed stranger and stranger creatures. A few caught his eyes, and he set them aside mentally for further study.
Crake saw the door move its first millimetre before almost all the other students and was instantly riveted. The tall man that emerged was beyond immediate comprehension, and as such demanded almost all of crakes' attention. Not so much that he didn’t notice his neighbour straining to see over the shoulders of her taller fellows. Crake tapped his foot twice, and hard, the stone beneath her feet rose sharply. She gasped and jumped, grasping her feather, and there she stayed. Just as if someone would hang from a rope she hung from that single feather. Tentatively she touched her feet down on the mound of stone. With a little colour in her face she muttered “thanks” put her feather away and listened as the headmaster started his speech.
Through the speech crake was focusing on the man first and the message second. What does it take to run a school full of power? By the end crake had a new goal, to understand and know the man, where he came from, what he does and who does he answer to.
The speech now finished, the cohort began moving through the yard, up the stairs and underneath the almost foreboding door arch. The girl deftly jumped from her mound and darted through the crowd towards the front. Stepping off his mound, almost tripping in the process, crake followed, stamping once to flatten both mounds. Eyes now back in his book he allowed the current of the crowd to carry him through the doors.

Well, this is going to be a few interesting years, that’s for sure.
Lilia shook her head and eyed the mob of students around her, already feeling the tension and animosity thicken almost tangibly in the air around her between the different races, many of who were already engaged in heated glaring contests. She quickly darted past a pair of hulking figures to avoid being trampled, careful to keep her wings pressed as closely against her body as possible just in case they would somehow manage to whap someone in the face.
She gave a quick glance around. Sirens, witches, shifters, demons, angels… Lilia raised an eyebrow when she spotted a particular angel with the telltale bright aura of a pure angel. Haven’t seen many of those before, she mused, feeling slightly curious about the being but quickly brought her attention back to herself when a large arm swung over her head, narrowly missing her. “Hey!” she complained, but the owner of the arm had already disappeared into the crowd. Mumbling under her breath, Lilia decided to attempt to get nearer to the entrance.
With much pushing, shoving and mostly dodging, she managed to squeeze into the front of the throng without sustaining or causing any bodily harm. A miracle really, seeing how most of these people were over half her height and would have knocked her over if they even bumped into her. A little out of breath, she sighed. Flying over would have been so much easier if it wouldn't have attracted too much attention to herself, and judging by the current mood of the students that would have been a very, very bad idea. Lilia stood up straighter and took a deep breath in an attempt to ease the nervousness gnawing at her only to regret it almost immediately as the oozing stench of something filled her nose. She didn’t know what it was, and frankly didn’t care to find out.
Gagging, the faerie swatted a hand at the air in front of her face in an attempt to dispel the odor but quickly froze when she saw a few people shooting weird looks and glares her way. She grimaced but shrunk back slightly and stilled, not wanting to draw any more stares. What's their problem, she grumbled internally but stayed quiet. Making enemies on her first day was not part of her plans. Instead, she blew a lock of dark brown hair out of her face and settled for inspecting her home for the next four years.
The stone building looming in front of her was intimidating to say the least. On a nice sunny day it could have been a grand and welcoming building with its towering turrets, countless windows and the large doors of the entrance, but today the turrets seemed to stab at the heavens, the windows seemed to stare down at her and the doors seemed to be waiting for someone to enter the maws of the mansion-like building, never to be seen again. It would be the perfect scene for a horror movie, she thought idly. only this movie would have no survivors.
She shuddered, feeling more and more apprehensive about this whole thing and wondered whether it was too late to back out or not. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden sound of the doors being unbolting, and a hushed silence fell as a man, The headmaster, Lilia noted the sense of authority around him, stepped out of the building and proceeded to welcome them to the academy, though ‘welcome’ may not have been the best choice of words.
The contents of his speech were to be expected, really. Enemies were inevitable in a place where races of all kinds joined together which was why integrated schools like these were rare, and although not emphasized it was obvious the threat of death was very much real in this place.
Maybe the rumors about this place were right after all. Staring at the wide open doors of the academy after the headmaster left, the girl stood in silence while whispers and mutters started around her and people slowly began to file in, breaking the short spell of silence. Still, there was no point turning back after getting this far. Steeling herself, the faerie determinedly followed the masses into the Academy of Vendace Halls and hoped that she was not going to end up regretting not rejecting that letter when she had the chance.

Elisa-Maye Jaraiah was not having her best day, but atleast it was not her worst.
She had woken up early to find out that the uniform that they had sent to her was two sizes too big, and it hung off her thin frame like a sheet, making her appear like something to clean the house with. Not only this, but it seemed as if her parents were trying to rush her out of the house. They packed everything for her, made sure she had her schedule, made sure her uniform was on correctly, even making breakfast, accomplishing all of this before even six in the morning! You can imagine how awkward it was, standing fully dressed near the doorway, in her uniform, jacket, and boots for over an entire hour.
Arriving at the school, her eyes roamed the large building. This was definitely one of those schools. This was definitely a school that was going to try to fit her into some kind of mold, or "make her into a better person" as her mother had said. It was a little too dark and scary for her liking, and she knew there would be many nights that she would lay awake in her dorm, unable to sleep in the scary building. Her hands held her schedule, map of the school, and who she would be rooming with. Someone named Melody Aveline Faunt. Strange, the name sounded awfully familiar. She wondered if she read it in a magazine somewhere. How cool would that be, to be roommates with someone famous? She hoped she was nice.
Finally deciding that she wouldn't get trampled if she were to stand too close to this crowd, Elisa-Maye said goodbye to her parents and climbed out of the car. Her eyes danced curiously over all of the students she would be attending school with. So many... she thought, standing on her tiptoes to see over some heads. Wow, there's angels too? Was that an angel? It had got to be; the girl practically had a halo. Even though standing far from her, Elisa shrunk in embarrassment. There was no way she'd even be able to utter a word to her. The faerie was always so shy around the higher ranking creatures.
Eyes still on the angel, Elisa was shocked when she heard a loud voice. It threw her completely off gaurd. Who could that be? She thought, an irritation creeping over her. She realized that the crowd had quieted down some, and pushed past a taller person in front of her so she could glimpse whoever it was that was talking. Then she realized that it was the headmaster, and slapped herself on the forehead for being so stupid. Of course it's the headmaster. Who else would be giving a speech so early in the morning? By the time she finally started listening to him, he had already turned and walked away, and the doors had already opened. Darn it! I hoped I didn't miss anything important, she thought, trying to shuffle her way inside.

The woman gazed outside the second story window, glancing here and there at the crowds now entering the Academy grounds. For her and her kind, they had arrived the night before, for the day brings with it a painful death. Once, those crowds outside would be hers. Hers to judge, hers to torture, and ultimately hers to kill. In God's name she had wielded the sword, in His name she crusaded, and in His name the undead and the unnatural was purged.
But God was also cruel, unforgiving in his judgement.
Unwilling to think on it further, the white haired woman rested her cheek on her palm once again, finding nothing much of interest outside. She continued reading the book, a story about some unfortunate boy kidnapped by pirates. Not all her attention was on the book however, as she could feel some of the people passing by staring heavily at her. It could not be helped, she suppose, for she wore one of the vampire hunter's garments, one of the finer ones at that. In fact, she was a vampire hunter, not just for vampires, but a hunter. Why, she still had her sword strapped on and her shield nearby, one of her most trusted companions for a long time.
Cassandra Grunberg stopped reading and looked up with a frown. Perhaps it was because her clothes looked outdated?
It was no matter, for it was comfortable and familiar, and it certainly seemed to fit in this strange place. It was as if she had entered a door through which time had reversed, and she was once more back in her time.

Her vision was getting hazy, as the room started to appear distorted. Vaguely she could recognize shapes and dark shadows, flitting about, mocking her. But one, that one, was static. It was static, but it was also moving, there but not there, moving as if unbound, moving and mocking. Moving towards her. It was wrong, all wrong. The wall is a lie, it didn't exit it didn't enter

Cassandra blinked.
She was holding some boy against a wall, her silver sword already close to piercing his eye. It had seemed she had relocated to the corridor somehow, but at least it wasn't hazy and distorted any longer. She looked back towards the boy, who was sniveling and getting snot on her fine leather gloves now.
The bastard.
She shoved the sword into his skull, cracking a wide smile on her face as she did so.

Wind Wild
At first Leila had naively assumed everyone here had her reason for coming – a strive for knowledge, power and noble authority. As her gaze slowly ran through the crowd, though, her mistake became clearer and clearer. This was not a place for just royalty and not a place for just nobility. It was a dumpster. A dumpster for souls. It was hard to believe that she would have to stand alongside beings much below, and also much above her level. There was hardly any explanation for the contrast that she could see – from timid and lost little girls all the way up to that obnoxious ray of light at the far end of the crowd.
No human in their right mind, she thought, would put all those different people in the same place.
And yet here they were. And the answer as to why came painfully as soon as the headmaster spoke. Death. Survival of the fittest.
A rush of adrenaline and disgust erupted in her heart like a volcano and she could feel her skin heating up to the point of boiling, not sure if it was just her imagination or her actually failing to control her inner fire that caused it. She breathed in and held her breath, trying to convince herself that there was more to it, a bigger plan than just letting the strong trample upon the weak for the sake of acquiring a higher social status.
When she came here she wanted to prove herself. And not in that way.
As she let the breath out Leila could feel it was hot enough to burn a flower and wished for the principal to be right in front of her so she could solve the problem of this poor management easily.
Yes, someone deserved to die here, she agreed.
A burning hot chill ran down her spine and calmed her mind by gaining her full attention. An unexplainable desire to bow her head down and step back. So she tilted her head higher and looked around for the source of the desire that wasn’t her own.
It was a demon, it was easy to guess without even having interacted with one before, and he strode to the gates with leisure purpose, a girl at his side. Leila twisted her face in disgust and averted her eyes, refusing to give them a second glance.
With her next breath she could catch the faint smell of blood and urine already filling the air, accompanied by the sounds of threat and despair. Of course, she had noticed already how many of the wannabe-leaders had surrounded themselves with weaker followers like a sun surrounded with planets. And it wasn’t surprising that one of them, mislead by the fake feeling of security, had already tried to pick a fight.
However, the full extent of the violence that had followed was something she saw for the first time in her life.
When her clan had to punish they did so swiftly and quick. They didn’t torture and they didn’t threat.
The little weakling would escape with his life for now, but his career as a leader was over. His authority was questioned and hurt and he had probably already become dead meat without realizing it. With his shaky position it was just a matter of time before someone decided to put him out of his misery and take his place.
Leila sighed. She couldn’t exactly make out how she felt about everything that was happening here. Maybe it was just too many people in the same place, that challenged her abilities to judge people way too much, that made her feel a bit confused and lost.
At the same time, the situation and was required of her was blatantly clear and easy. And yet she would have to rise above the instincts, fear and aggression in a pursuit for something she now considered might be naïve and stupid and something nobody would agree with her mattered.
The girl stood still, lost in her thoughts while her eyes explored everyone passing through the front doors and into the pit.

Meeky
Karen was lucky that she'd waited a bit before pressing on. She felt like a scavenger trailing behind the Mongolian horde, except the horde didn't have a Khan at its head and was bent on damaging itself more than anything else.
The freckled young woman reached into her sweater, pulling out a small piece of paper. She'd written down what little details she'd been given there, not that it said much (though anyone trying to read the paper would have been bedazzled by what atrocity passed as 'handwriting' for her). Yes, she was in... this section of the building, this was her place-- Er, her hall in the Halls-- and... she was in...
"...Room One." Karen stopped before the room, the door looking just a bit too ostentatious for her liking. Of course, that door probably hid a perfectly small dorm, just like any university with this many students did. It probably didn't even have room for her to stretch. Shrugging, she opened the door...
"What the Hell?" she blurted out, staring at the inside of the room. Her backpack slipped from her arm and onto the floor with a heavy 'thud.' She didn't know what to make of the school anymore. Here she was, probably one of the "plebians" that the stick-up-the-rear people-things kept talking about, and the school was giving her a magnificent, spacious bedroom complete with perfectly tailored (and already folded) sheets, two blankets - Two! she noted, because surely that was an unrealistic number of blankets to own - and dressers that had a custom, handmade sort of look. And there wasn't a carpet, but a rug; yes, a whole whopping rug with the swirly-things knitted into it, and a plethora of lamps, and did they really set flowers up for us?
Karen looked at her piece of paper, then back up at the room number... then at the paper, then at the number, and once more for good measure. Maybe this was a different Room One? Or maybe they'd gotten their paperwork confused when they arranged for her to be there?
Aw, fuck it. Karen picked her bag up, walked in, and awarded the finely prepared room by slinging her pack onto the bed she liked unceremoniously and throwing herself onto it with her back. I might as well enjoy myself, she thought to herself. It's not so bad...
Maybe it's time to watch a little something. Karen lazily reached for her backpack, unzipping it and reaching in. She removed her laptop, opened it, and remembered it was out of power. No matter, she thought, slipping off the bed to just plug it into the power sock--...
"Oh." Wonderful. They're magic lamps. Not a single power socket was in sight anywhere, nowhere to plug in her laptop... Karen's forehead throbbed as she considered all the DVDs she'd brought with her. These super-capable beings had the capacity to construct a stone castle, keep hundreds of fierce (and hormonal) students in check, but they didn't think to let students have a little electricity in their bedrooms? Karen wanted to say something very rude about that, but quickly realized this was probably just how they lived... Without electricity.
That didn't stop her from being annoyed, of course. It just stopped her from tearing at her hair.
No matter, no matter, she thought to herself, picking up her laptop's case. They must have one in one of those communal rooms... The floor room? Common room? Karen stepped out her door, closed it carefully, then quickly found the room that looked most likely to be the one she needed. It had a different looking door, which was a good hint, though the words 'Common Room' above it didn't exactly hurt.
Karen headed on in, and wasn't as surprised to see the rolled out carpet, the leather couches, the magnificent view of the courtyard... a beautiful fireplace, a ceiling that made her feel tiny, different types of chairs (was that a rocking chair?), paintings on the walls, candles... Yes, it looked like it had everything but a power socket.
Karen mumbled to herself, noting that nobody was in there but her yet. She started to search along the walls, trying to find a proper power socket. Her ears twitched, because she could have sworn she heard movement outside the door, but the door hadn't opened, yet, and she'd know if anyone was in the room with her. There was no doubt about that. So, Karen kept searching, crouched down as she scooted slowly in front of the wall fruitlessly.
