This is a roleplay I've been thinking about a long time and I want it to go on for a while. All of the characters will start out small and gain in power while the roleplay plot gains in danger. I'm posting and interest check here but I have the OOC up and running already. http://roleplayerguild.com/showthrea...-of-Demons-OOC I'll always be accepting characters.
Preface It is November of the year 1805. Napolean has defeated all other resistances that stood against him and Britain has been left as the only nation standing. An era of unstable and worrisome peace between Britain and France has been entered but itwill not last long. A third Coalition between Britain, Russia, Austria and sweden has been formed and a bloody, savage war has once again begun that stretches all of Europe as well as the sea. Only a month prior to the day, Nelson won his grand victory against the French-Spanish fleet at Trafalgar and news of it has just reached Britain.
However it is not the only conflict causing bloodshed and grief. Things in the shadows are beginning to stir. Rivalrys and hatreds that have lain dormant for millenia are beginning to bubble to the surface and demons start to sense the coming of their own war. However even this is insignificant to what these events will reveal to be the truth. A truth that could shake the world and bring both human and demon life crashing down.
So we begin the Roleplay in an era of strife and conflict. The king is going insane and England has alot of worries to do with war and the like. Vampires and Werewolves are actually profitting from the conflicts since war breeds desperation and desperation leads to more humans wishing to sell their soul for a task to be accomplished.
All of the information about the three species of Demon is in the Tabs below. There is alot of information and, though I'd love for you to read every single syllable of it, I can understand that you all have lives so there are little summaries at the top of each tab. You will need to read all of the lore for your chosen character type since my version of a werewolf almost certainly differs from yours. If you wish to be human then I would recommend you read all of the 'Bound' sections in the Demon tabs so that you have all of the information.
Now the roleplay is quite firmly based on the Contractor/Contracted relationship. Its about character development and progression to power. I would really like it if one person plays each role (contractor and contracted) rather than one person playing both roles. Its just more interesting that way. Now for the Human contractors, I know that playing a character that will definitely die at some point or another is kinda depressing but once your character dies you will have total freedom to make a new character. I'm probably going to let you go completely wild with it actually, just PM me any of the really original ideas to make sure they fit in with the Universe.
There is a 'Wanted' List at the bottom of this first post, along with an 'Accepted characters' list. On the wanted list I'll post Characters who need a contractor or a Contracted so that we can partner people up and you can discuss your histories with each other ect.
One character each is the policy for now, but it is subject to change depending upon how many people join up.
Here is all the stuff you need to know:
Soulless Demons are people whom have been killed by a Whole Demon but then forced to remain on earth, their soul energy simply torn from their body but their memories and personality and 'self' remaining.
A contract is formed on the basis of a task, a task that a Human wants completed dearly enough to make it worth the sacrifice of their own soul. The creation of a contract pauses time for the contracted human, not letting them age or die until their contract is completed. This makes it impossible for the demon to gain a soul without completing their task. Most often the contract lasts a few years, however some have been known to last for hundreds of years, ending with the changing of the world. Once a contract is fulfilled the human dies and the Demon takes the Soul. A Demon can decide whether or not it wishes to keep the memories of its Contractor although most choose to wipe the soul clean and never remember their contractor, too painful is the memory.
If a human wishes to enter into a Contract then they have a choice of three Demon species. Vampire, Werewolf or Angel. Depending upon the demon in question there are various ways of entering into a contract including rituals and messages.
Vampires are by far the easiest to get a hold of. Just a taste of your own blood accompanied by the intention of making a contract will call a Vampire to your side but it rarely, if ever, comes to this. Vampire society is highly advanced with networks of contacts, both vampire and human, seeded throughout the world. Just mentioning your intent to make a contract in a conversation with your neighbour can have a vampire at your door within the week.
Werewolves on the other hand, have a very disparate culture and a ritual is usually necessary, unless you chance to meet one on your travels. To call one you must wander into the wilderness at a full moon and howl. This will draw a werewolf in full form to you, but rather than ripping you to shreds werewolves can smell the intention to make a contract and are tamed by the scent, thereby allowing a contract to be formed.
An Angel contract is not only rare but difficult to acquire. Praying for a Contract or something along those lines will draw one to you but they will not even reveal their presence unless your will is strong. Even then they will argue with you and try to persuade you against your choice, trying to find ways to accomplish your task without the sacrifice of your soul. Only if you are completely at peace with the loss of your soul will the Angel accept the Contract.
Characteristically vampires are cunning and wise with all the years they have behind them, their powers are more ones of subtlety and cunning than strength and force. They are a very organized society with a Royal government of Whole Vampires and a complicated legal system for ensuring their continued existence amongst humans. They do live and work around humans and it is often hard to identify them although there are signs that the trained eye of a hunter can spot. Vampires have heightened strength but mostly they are incredibly fast and agile, as well as this they have powers of persuasion and glamour, able to woo an individual by their voice and appearance and manner alone. Souless vampires only have this effect upon humans but once a Vampire becomes whole their powers of seduction are almost impossible to resist.
Soulless Vampires
The average Vampire has to drink blood to survive. By consuming a human's blood a vampire can get a taste of their soul which sustains them, even though they have no soul of their own. However it is a painful existence since they can never be quite satisfied. It is very rare, if not unheard of, for a Soulless Vampire to spare a victims life. There is no exertion of will that can stop them killing their victim once they have taken the first bite, no matter how strong their conviction or feeling for the victim might be.
Many Vampires take quite will to this life of killing, either accepting it as natural and forgiving themselves or embracing it wholeheartedly and reveling in the bloodshed. But some remain ill at ease with this way of life and wish to not kill for a living. These Vampires either find a way to their own destruction or add their name to a list, set up by the Royal Covern, that names the Vampires who wish for a soul. It is a dangerous choice though since a Vampire in a contract will definitely come across many dangers, such as Hunters and Werewolves, and have will to protect their Contractor even above their own life so they cannot flee when danger is near if commanded otherwise/
Many Vampires decide it is not worth the risk and simply remain as they are. Others have a different strategy. Once a soul has been taken the demon in possession of it becomes very powerful, however they are not indestructible and because it is not their soul they have no other form of defense. Humans have complete control of their soul, there is no power that can force a human to give up their soul if they do not wish to. A whole demon on the other hand, has no protection against someone stealing their soul but their body, once their body is broken there is nothing stopping the soul from being taken by any who wish for it. Therefore if a whole demon is killed by another, souless or otherwise, that Whole Demon's soul can be stolen by the victor. However, although this is a more common way for Vampires to pursue a soul, it is a less successful one since a demon with a soul will almost always be stronger than one without.
The strength of a Soulless Vampire relies solely upon whom created them. If a Whole Vampire has two souls then the Vampires it creates will be stronger than those created by a whole vampire with one soul, and so on and so forth. In this way a Soulless Vampire could be strong enough to defeat a Whole Vampire and take their soul for themselves, provided their mother was of immense power.
Bound Vampires
The relationship between a bound Vampire and their Contractor can be a very varied one depending upon the personalities involved, but characteristically the Vampire takes up a kind of Butler role, always standing slightly behind their Contractor and advising and protecting them until the contract is fulfilled. As the vampire has no soul they still need blood but they only take it from their contractor and since they have complete control over their vampire servants, a contractor can order a Vampire to stop and avoid death.
Human contractors are often introduced into Vampire society and are respected highly depending upon the vampire Covern in that area. The Royal Vampires normally have a definite view that Contractors should be respected and honoured for their contribution. However it happens in some Coverns that Humans are always to be looked down upon and usually in those circumstances they are kept in the dark about Vampire society.
Whole Vampires
Once a vampire gains a soul they double in strength and often gain abilities unique to them. As soon as a Vampire becomes 'Whole' they become a Vampire Noble, respected by all and given a place in the Government. They give opinions upon decisions that Soulless Vampires would be too biased upon and take responsibility for a certain area of Vampire populated territory. They have many responsibilities and those only grow as they become stronger. Sometimes a Whole Vampire will still make contracts with humans to gain more souls and more power and this factor gives rise to a kind of fear that one vampire will become stronger than the others, however the Royalty generally manage to keep a handle upon any who would try and disrupt the balance.
The most important characteristic about any whole demon is their ability to create souless of their kind. The Souless that they create have a special bond with their 'mother' which waxes and wanes depending on personalities and wants, but generally remains in some form or another. A new Vampire does not have to enter the Covern of their 'mother' but most often it is what they do.
One of the most important roles of Noble's is to protect their Vampire Covern by keeping the level of werewolves in that area to a minimum. Werewolves, when in their wolf form, are always stronger than Souless vampires and even when in human form they can be hard to kill. For safety’s sake Whole Vampires are given the task of culling them periodically so that they do not go mad and alert the human population to the presence of supernatural beings.
At the top of Vampire society sit the Royal Vampires, the Vampires that make decisions for all the Vampire race and are the strongest, wisest and oldest Vampires in the world. They are usually more than 500 years old and have gathered at least 20 souls, a great achievement. At the moment there are only 13 Royals and they are all scattered around the world. However just because a vampire is not in the Royal Covern does not mean they are not as strong as them. There are rogue Vampires who have been traveling for decades without care for the Vampire hierarchy, then there are Vampires who refuse the title in favor of simply helping the cause and finally there are those old and powerful Vampire whom the Royals do not consider suitable for the role of Royalty.
Werewolves have a far more chaotic society than Vampires, however it is also far simpler. They exist by the laws of wolves and belong to packs with an Alpha male and female and others below them. They do not have a universal leader like the Royalty of the Vampires, however they do have Werewolves whom all other Werewolves accept as their betters and whom are obeyed without question. Alpha's of packs that are centuries old command respect wherever they go and even Alpha's of lesser packs will bow to their will. Sometimes a werewolf will choose not to belong to a pack and, providing they do not go mad before they can gain a soul, these individuals will often live a great many years and are treated with great respect. Apart from loners, Werewolves very rarely go into human society, preferring to live in the wild away from civilization. They will sometimes pass through villages and towns but they never stay anywhere for long.
Souless Werewolves
A souless werewolf has limited time. After one is created they will change at the next full moon but they will not be in control. When in werewolf form, a person is in no control of themselves and they react on instinct alone, hunting prey and attacking dangers be they animal or person. These rampages are the reason Vampires cull them since Humans do not distinguish between a corpse drained of blood and a corpse torn to shreds and inevitably a Hunter is called to investigate. Of course the Vampire hunter can distinguish between a Werewolf victim and a vampire victim but often enough they search the area anyway and take the opportunity to kill any vampires they find.
At first a Souless Werewolf is weaker than a Vampire when in human form, but as it ages it gets stronger. At around one hundred years of age they reach equality with Vampires in both strength and speed. However as a Werewolf ages its werewolf instincts and traits begin to seep into its human personality, even into its human form. Slowly it begins to lose reason and humanity, eventually falling completely from humanity and becoming purely wolf. At around 100 years of age is the perfect stage for a souless werewolf. They are at their strongest and, although they have wolfish tendencies in their manner and appearance, like eating raw meat and fang-like protuberances, they still retain their reason and are capable of rational thought. After this they go down hill and this is the point when a werewolf will become most desperate to gain a soul.
Bound Werewolf
A werewolf in a contract with a human is usually used as an utterly obedient guard dog. The human contractor can command the Werewolf to change forms even without the fullmoon needed and they can use a werewolf in its wolf form somewhat like a puppet, controlled entirely by their master and unable to do anything but watch. There is no particular stereotype that they follow, only that they never leave the side of their contractors, hovering around them as a bodyguard.
When in a contract a Werewolf's degeneration is paused and they go no further down the road of wolfishness, however they do not go back either and werewolves vary greatly in the amount of humanity left to them. The rate of success for werewolf contracts is higher than Vampires but those with souls rarely take anymore than one. Only if they rise to the head of a pack will a werewolf try and make themselves stronger by taking more souls and then usually it will be from battles with other whole demons rather than contracts.
Whole Werewolf
Whole werewolves have complete control over both their forms and the degeneration ceases, although they do not regain the humanity they lose. They are usually stronger than Vampires although Vampires are usually faster. As a rule the Alpha of a pack must be a Whole Werewolf and they must be stronger than all other pack members so fights for dominance are common and they cause a kind of natural selection. An Alpha will defend its position from another werewolf with a soul and the victor will kill the loser and take their soul. In this way the strongest will become stronger as well as disposing of the competition.
A Whole Werewolf, Alpha or not, has a responsibility for those Souless Werewolves whom run rampant on nights of the full moon. At this time they are gathered together with Whole Werewolves watching over them and when they change they recognise the Whole Werewolves as their leaders and follow them through the night, hunting for deer and playing together harmlessly under the watchful eyes of their betters. But this is only for those werewolves in a pack, lone Werewolves must find other ways to deal with their full moon transition.
Another way Whole Werewolves protect their pack is by defending it against Vampires. Usually Vampires will only attack the Lone werewolves whom wander into their territory since they can cause the most trouble and an attack on a werewolf pack is a dangerous undertaking. But sometimes they mistake a member of a pack for a lone werewolf and this can be a fatal mistake. Werewolves are usually very protective of their souless, like mothers of children, and almost all Werewolves have an inherent hatred of Vampires. Therefore if one stray pack werewolf is killed by a thoughtless Vampire it can incite a war between the two forces that can mean the end of both as well as the destruction of any nearby human settlements.
Soulless Angels and Whole Angels have virtually no contact. The Whole Angels pity their brethren and Soulless Angels pity in turn but they very rarely come into contact. They are mysterious and very rarely make themselves known to humans, although they do try to aid them from the shadows. They have powers of emotion and healing but how they use it varies greatly between the three types.
Soulless Angels: The messengers
All Angels answer to a being they believe to be god. They do its bidding and nothing more, having no life, no relationships and very few individual thoughts. They have many powers of purity and goodness, healing being the most predominant one, and they go down to earth only to spread purity and happiness amongst the Humans and to collect information about the world to relay to the Being. The Being keeps them in a haze of utter bliss, allowing them to sense only beauty and light and instilling in them an inability to cause any living thing hurt. But so long as the Being tells them to do something, an Angel will not see it as evil. So for instance the being might tell an Angel to kill someone, yet the Angel will see the deed as a kind one. Life through very strong rose-tinted glasses you might say.
However the longer an Angel stays on Earth the weaker the Being's power over them becomes. They begin to see things such as friendship and love and these things cause them to wish for a soul of their own. The time required for this to happen is different for each Angel since, although the Being has complete control of them, they all do have different personalities, wants and emotions.
Even after an Angel has begun to wish for a soul, a human has to pray for an angel's contract to gain it. Only when the Angel is actually faced with the possibility of a soul will they consider it truly and even then they have to see that entering a contract will cause a lot less unavoidable pain for the Human than accepting it will. Up until this point an Angel is still incapable of causing harm.
Bound Angels: Fallen Angels
An Angel in a contract is completely torn from The Being's influence and has their own mind and personality forced upon them. However at first this is a great shock. To see the world without any barriers for the first time is incredibly traumatic and often an Angel will simply kill themselves before ever gaining a soul. If this does not happen then they latch onto their Contractor, finding comfort in the relationship of utter trust that comes with the contract and delighting in helping someone.
They are normally seen as a dear loving friend of the Contractor, not only protecting them but knowing instinctively how to make them smile and laugh. Quite a lot of contracts made with Angels are made by children so in that case they become like a parent or a sibling, watching over them until their task is done.
Whole Angels: Seraphim
The start of a Seraphim is fragile since it involves the loss of their contractor. No matter how brutally they are treated by their contractor an Angel cherishes the very first relationship they ever have and its loss causes much pain. Still they enter into their life on earth and try and find many friends among humans, vampires and werewolves. Mostly they stick with human relationships since the bloodshed that naturally comes with the other two options is repulsive to them. Even so because Vampires and Whole Werewolves live forever the few friendships made with them last longer and are more equal.
Seraphim are incredibly powerful. They do retain some of their healing power but mostly they are just given raw power of light and regenerative capabilities, to be used however they see fit. A human cant look at them when they show their wings the light is so bright and individuals make their own use of the pure light energy. Like all Whole Demons, Seraphim can make Angels but they basically never do, to tear a person's soul from their body is far to traumatic and violent a thing to do. Also the memory of not having emotion is very vivid in their minds and they do not want that for anyone.
Although it is the rarest of occurrences, it has happened that a demon has fallen in love with a human and had a child. The life for this child is difficult from the start. At birth they are fragile and weak and few survive the first few weeks. Even those that do survive don't live long past their teens or early adulthood. The reason for this is the weak soul that inhabits their body.
Its worst if the parent was a soulless demon. In that situation the child will definitely not survive, but even for Whole Demons their soul is inadequate. A Whole demon's soul isn’t their own, it doesn’t have the same tie to the world and so cant pass on a strong soul to a child. This causes a weak body that has no will to hold onto life and also colours the child’s pupils grey instead of black.
Even so this does give a Half Demon certain abilities and those Half-bloods who discover, train and use these abilities are named Warlocks. Because their soul has such a loose tie to the world they are free to roam into the realms of the dead. Warlocks have certain powers of foresight and they can call back the dead into a living body by sacrificing the original host. The host must be completely willing for this since it is similar to a demon contract in that the soul must be freely given. The soul of the original host is taken by the Warlock and they feed upon it, which strengthens them for a period of time. However this is not an everlasting effect, the energy of the soul is eventually depleted, the length of time it takes for this depends upon the ability and strength of the Warlock. This skill of resurrection is risky since the Warlock’s soul must leave their body and travel through the realm of the dead to find the target of resurrection. Each time they do this they get better at finding the target, but it also becomes harder to leave. Many Warlocks are lost this way.
Someone who is resurrected has no adverse effects, they are simply alive in a body that is not their own. They can live a relatively normal life if they wish, but that is rarely the case. Sometimes they might have memories of their time dead, but these are never more than blank swirling grey or unbearable bright light.
Warlocks can also commune with the souls of a Whole demon or any soul still bound to the living world that should not be there. They use this to gather information and often to help Whole demons in their dealings, or help Hunters against them. Warlocks may be physically weak but their abilities make them incredibly useful so often they gain the protection of others in exchange for their gifts.
Of course although Half bloods may be weak, there is a way of allowing a child to survive. By turning it into any of the species of Demon they effectively die and are reborn in that species, allowing them to live on. When this happens, because they have supernatural blood in them, they become stronger than most Soulless Demons and often swiftly gain a soul through their strength.
There is only space for two Warlock Characters in this rp and they will have to be good, well developed Characters as well as fit in with the plot.
Hunters usually come from an old family (often religious) who have collected information over hundreds of years on the ways to kill demons.
They use special weapons forged with some silver content in them but that is not enough to kill a demon. For a hunter's weapon to work they must be bathed in the blood of a Whole demon, the more souls the demon has the more potent the weapon's ability. A demon is weakened when around a weapon drenched in the blood of its species. Their speed and strength is reduced and their ability to heal is also lessened. By how much depends upon the strength of the demon being fought and the blood of the demon on the weapon.
Not only that but being in possession of the weapon gives hunters greater speed and strength as well as endurance in amounts depending on the species of demon's blood. Greatly enhanced speed for vampires blood, strength for werewolf’s and endurance for angel’s. These weapons are usually handed down through these old hunter families and the children who show the best potential are given them. There are exceptions.
There is only space for two Hunter Characters in this rp and they will have to be good, well developed Characters as well as fit in with the plot.

I dont understand the contracted/contractor part....
There is a demon without a soul. There is a human with a task that he/she wishes to complete more than anything. This human calls upon a demon to aid them in this task and in exchange they will give the demon their soul once the task is completed. Its like a binding legal contract basically.
Once the task is completed the human dies and the Demon becomes a whole demon, IE more powerful and with less lifestyle issues

what human would EVER do that? I can't think of any issue where you would sell your soul and die for...
----edit----
but I am interested. :P

Revenge or protecting people they love? And if it takes a long time they get to live frozen at their current age for that time :)

its also about misunderstanding, a human doesnt necessarily understand the true worth of their soul, in a fit of anger or pain they might believe it to be the right thing to do and a contract is binding. if a human says they do not wish for the contract anymore once making it then usually their demon will kill them.
