I only came back to this site because my old forum community died.
Yes, I've been part of a site or two that ended up like that, but mainly it was on WoW Roleplaying Communities. I'd meet a bunch of people, we'd RP, have loads of fun, and then non-Rpers would come into the server and ruin RPing, and everyone started to slowly leave, till it was just me and maybe one or two others.
;-; Memories man, memories.
This actually happened to my original RPing site. I was extremely active and even had a bunch of interesting RPs but then the site got shut down. That is actually partially what caused me to leave RPing altogether for a few years before finding this place.
I messed around on proboards and neopets and stuff for a while, but for a large-scale roleplay site, I only used one for about 5 years.
And now that I think about it....
This one site that I went to kinda died. Bea and I had an interesting RP going on there....
<.< of course, there's the deal with it having been a cyber RP forum filled with smut, and they got shut down because some kids had stumbled upon it.
But yeah, slightly relevant.
Yeah, but i've seen it so often I'm used to it now. I forget who, but someone told me RPG has been on the way out for the last yearish. So I guess that will be RPG in the not-too-distant future. It's weird, I almost always seem to miss the 'golden age' of communities, which people always talk about. I'm always there for the decline tho.
Usually right after the decline begins, before I get any outrageous accusations.
It's interesting how the shifts happen tho. And it is exacerbated by social networking. Myspace caused a decline in forum-based communities, Facebook hastened the decline, and Twitter has relegated forums to being more or less specialized, like this one. It's like how desktop computers are only used for certain things, and no longer mainstream.
You could argue RPG hasn't suffered at all since it began well after Myspace and FB, and has been going strong since Twitter exploded (in 2009 iirc). But even tho it's specialized, I do know a good chunk of roleplayers who don't use forums anymore. One of the best RPers I know migrated to FB RPing, which is super weird to me. :ezlol:
