The sun shone brightly across the clean, blue ocean which stretched far over the horizon. Gentle waves hugged the shore and the sea breeze was salty as ever. The light sparkled on the water, giving the impression of a million dazzling diamonds. The port town of Harlen was known for it's beautiful ocean view, but not much else. On regular days, the town was often quiet; fishermen going about their daily business and the locals wandering around the markets making small talk. Now the locals had decided to stay inside the comfort of their homes, because the once peaceful streets of the town were suddenly flooded with people. Street performers, magicians and spectators alike danced in the street; several bands playing folk music were stationed on the rooftops. Streamers, balloons and confetti littered the air and the street. Today was a special occasion. The small, barely noticed town of Harlen had been chosen to host the opening ceremony of Fiore's Grand Magic Games. People from all across the country had piled in to the small fishing district just to catch a glimpse of the participating guilds. Cheers of joy erupted whenever a guild banner soared through the sky. As usual, Sabertooth and Fairy Tail brought out the most applause. Blue Pegasus, Mermaid Heel and Lamia Scale were also not to be ignored by the crowd. The guilds walked through the crowded streets as spectators threw flowers and confetti at them; cheering them on. In dark alleyways, people gambled on who would come out as the victor of these games. The competition looked brutal this year. As all the guilds began to meet up in the town square, several men and women dressed in a formal garment approached them. These were the members of the Game Council; the people who called all the shots and decided the events of the Games right from the opening ceremony.
"Welcome, Lamia Scale!" A woman dressed in a frilly, white gown with her face powdered to the extent that she looked like a ghost, approached Hope's guild. Being one of the smaller members, Hope was standing in the front of the group. Her small hands barely managed to wrap around the scythe she carried around with her for Nyx. "My name is Florence; head of accommodation for the Games each year. If you would follow me to Harlen Park where there will be refreshments and a chance to mingle with the other guilds." Florence smiled at them, then abruptly turned on her heel and continued walking. Hope had trouble keeping up with her pace, causing the other guild members to over take her. She soon found herself standing next to Alex; someone she didn't really know all that well. When she thought of it, this was probably the first time they'd ever been assigned to something together.
Things are promising to be quite fun, Hope. Nyx's voice echoed through her mind, but she didn't respond. The nerved of having to represent her entire guild were starting to get to her.
