Rewind the Clock Back [a Few] Years. I Mean, What Happened...?

I'm not new to RPGuild. Not in the least (I joined in, I think, 2007; ignore the date on my profile, I was under a different name back then). I miss the epic fantasy stuff, especially in the 1x1 section. That was rampant a few years ago! I loved it! I recall having a nice mix of epic high fantasy adventure, tasteful drama, and of course romance, all balanced out to create stories with folks that were on the same or similar level as a novel. Ya know how much I miss those days?! Golly, and now it's all infested with mature xxx crap that I notice in the (sad) majority nowadays. *sigh* Whatever happened to good old fashioned storycrafting? I get it if you like the mature stuff...I ain't stopping you, but I miss the other, (in my opinion) more substantial stuff.

Does anyone agree at all?

It seems to me the romance-based RP's are really all concentrated in the 1x1 section. If you like good old-fashioned storytelling, you don't have to look far! Just try some group RP's. I promise you this stuff isn't gone. :3

Yup. Plenty of non-romance RPs out here. Both in the form of RPs utterly without romance and in the form or RPs where it is a mild element that simply comes along with a more important plot.

I remember that time, it was fun because I loved the fantasy shit. As for the mature 1x1s, some are okay. I'm in a slightly mature one now with Huntress and we've become really good friends since we did our first rp. We've both improved drastically. I do however wish that I could go back to the elvish race and chill again. One of my most successful roleplays was fantasy and dragons.

I think kids today just want guns and space in their roleplay, we're in a time that does have some space travel, I mean, in a few years we are going to have a couple go to mars. We already have spacestation vacations. Sci-fi is a huge hit right now. As for modern roleplays that have guns and Apoc roleplays, it's just whats popular. In time, somebody will throw out a fantasy game that will take the world by storm and we'll be back into fantasy.

Tempted to make a fantasy roleplay now :/

the two RPs we take currently are one good vs evil fantasy, one sci fi. so they're not completely gone. Still, right now there might be a flood of Sci-fi and/or apocalyptic RPs, but in a few months it might be fantasy and something else.

I wouldn't say fantasy roleplays are suffering much of a decline at all, really. Plenty out there- they're still a pretty "traditional" setup for a forum roleplay. I currently am GMing two threads (or will be, one is still in the intchk stage) that are both... sort of fantasy? One is modern fantasy and the other is... hard to categorize under one genre! It's either sci-fi or fantasy depending on how you look at it. Though it still has predominant fantasy elements, regardless.

So yeah. Fantasy games aren't gone- they're aplenty.

^ This, basically. The Guild's collective tastes change all the time. One genre will flood the intchks for a couple weeks or so, only to be replaced by something else that suddenly becomes popular. I really don't think this site has any true leaning towards any particular genre- at least not over long periods of time.
