Hunting The Predators [Xavier /Phreniphorm]
The wide doors swung open slowly, their thick bulk weighing heavy on iron hinges. They creaked as they swung inward, a low and ominous sound in the quiet early morning. Zynder paused when they had opened far enough for him to shuffle inside, the guards to either side of the door pushed them closed behind him. They came together with a soft boom, reverberating through the empty hall of the castle, and causing the newcomer to turn his head to glance behind him briefly. The guards made no move to follow, as he had expected, so he hurried along.
Pillars loomed to either side of him, lit with the orange-red glow of torches and braziers set along the walls and floor. It was several dozen yards down the large entry hall that he spotted a servant standing dutifully outside of an open doorway. After a brief moment the young man beckoned him closer, and ushered him into a brightly lit room. The furnishings were something only royalty could afford, lush carpets and tapestries, as well as various trinkets, maps, and a globe sitting idly in a stand near the main table of the room. Two men were inside. One, he knew, was the castle garrison's commanding officer. it had been this man that had invited the mage to the castle in the first place, claiming that he had a job to be done and he could spare quite a lot of coin to see it through. The other was a stranger to Zynder, though guessing by the way he carried himself and seemed out of place here, he may be in the same situation as the mage was.
"Ah, Zap was it?" Spoke up the commander with a small, obviously feigned, smile. "Sorry for the early hour of this meeting but I did not wish this to become gossip. I'm sure that would not do any of us a favor." The man nodded. "As I explained earlier, to both of you, I will be sending a small compliment of soldiers to help you out. As competent as I'm sure you both are, I simply can't believe any single man could bring down a beast of this size. it's been ravaging the farmlands outside of the city for several months now, and we've lost many soldiers in the attempt to bring it down."
Zynder brushed off the comments with an idle wave of his hand, knowing full well that this man could not understand the abilities of a creature like that.. or of a man like him. "So who is this?" he asked, indicating the stranger.
"Your partner. I figured we might as well get the best of both worlds. A magic user, and a man skilled in more conventional weaponry."
