New Challenger Approaching!
'ello 'ello, name's Ben.
I've been roleplaying for a very, very, very -ahem- very long time. However, previously due to school and currently my new job I have had very little time or focus to do so. I finally started getting some free time and I wanted to put that energy into something I enjoy and feel is a nice combination of productive, relaxation and a skill builder. I enjoy a fair amount of different types of role play that range anywhere from existing canon to custom created worlds. However, I am not a fan of what I have observed as 'myspace' role play and heavily pre-scripted role play. The example being that a moderator or creator of a 'world' makes a few characters and an outline for a story and other people flesh out certain sections with relatively little freedom to break away from the outline. I am not attempting to bash that style, I am simply stating that it is not for me.
I am the type of role player that enjoys detailed posts that are rich enough to communicate a wide range of responses. While I do not mind a Robert Jordan mountain of scenery, if it is followed up by "and then she falls off of her horse" I find it a bit lacking and hard to interact with. I am filled with questions.
"How did she fall of her horse?"
"Did she fall forwards or backwards off the horse?"
"Did she fall towards or away from my character?"
"What is she, the character, wearing?"
"Is the horse wearing armor?"
"What else is on the horse?"
An almost limitless number of questions could and should be asked but, that's just my style and taste in role play. I'd prefer to know how a character rolls out of the way of danger rather than that they simply just do it. This is not to say that I like to see this so that my character can prevent these things from happening, I just enjoy the visual images and it allows me to have my character react appropriately.
Again, I do not want people to assume that if someone does not role play like this I think it's wrong or even think any less of them. Everyone role plays in their own way and that is awesome. Anyway, that is the end of my quick little tirade and I hope to enrich your role play experience as I being to toe the waters around the forums.
