Dealing with fear
It was a dark stormy night as Alexis Manners ran through the cobbled street. An evil laughter fluttered towards her from the shadows, spurring her onwards. The rain fell heavily around her, plastering her thin clothes to her skin. She wasn't sure exactly who, or what, was following her but she knew it wasn't good. She knew of only one place she could go to in her hour of need but it wasn't close enough. A flickering shadow ran in front of her, making her stop. She cautiously stepped backwards. Once. Twice. Three times. On her fourth step, she hit a warm object. She froze. "Now that I have you child..." A man's silky-smooth voice whispered in her ear. "You will never run again..." Her breathing became erratic, her heart beating rapidly. As his hands encircled her upper arms, a wild banshee scream cut through the night. The man shrieked and let go of her, disappearing with a small pop into the night.
Alexis slowly stumbled to where she wanted to go in the first place. A place for people like her, hunters of the paranormal. She hammered on the door, shouting at the top of her voice "Hey! Let me in!" She stood there for about five minutes before the door slowly creaked open. Rain sodden, she stepped inside and walked over to the large roaring fire, attempting to warm and dry her. A small group of hunters were clustered together in the corner, playing a silent game of cards. She looked over at them, longing to join in but knowing they'd never accept her. She sighed and stared back at the flames dancing in front of her.
