The Unexpected [Cara & Arwen]
The sounds of battle raged on.
For years, the war had spread across the land. The dark nights were often deafeningly loud with the ring of metal on metal, the screams of horses, and the war cries of men and women alike. The sunrise came to shed light on bloodstained earth and dozens of still corpses, cold and lifeless.
The bodies of elves and vampires were everywhere. Armed, shouting, covered in blood, crawling over their fallen comrades and enemies alike.
Heruthir raised his broadsword and roared as he swung at a nearby vampire, catching the bastard across the chest. There was a sharp ring as it collided with the breastplate of the blood-suckers armor, making the vampire stumbled back. Hungry for his life, the elf leaped forward and slashed again, his blade sliding over the shoulders and severing the vamp's head from his torso. The body stood still after the head fell to the floor, and the Heruthir lifted his foot to the headless body and kicked, pushing the thing to the blood-covered floor.
The elf shook his head, getting some of his dark hair out of his eyes, though it still clung to the sweat of his forehead beneath his helmet. It was a few hours until dawn. Three. Maybe four. He had that long to take down as many of the vile creatures as possible, while staying alive himself. His eyes locked onto his next target, and he raised his sword again.
