Fantasy drama, uncovering government conspiracies
This is inspired by two anime called Shinsekai Yori and Psycho Pass, but this will be it's own story so no knowledge of them is required.
All humans had developed mental powers roughly 500 years ago due to some mysterious event who's exact nature has been lost to history. Some can read minds, see the future, use telekinesis, telepathic, and other ways of altering reality with their minds, including setting things on fire. Some can be so strong that they'd threaten the entire world. Everything changed in light of these newfound powers, as normally societies could no longer function with so many new ways to bend the rules and cause mass destruction that they had nothing in place to prepare for. After World War 4 was taking a toll on everyone (this being in a different world then Earth), a single worldwide government was able to take control as the dust settled. They knew that it would be nearly impossible to maintain peace while still allowing everyone complete freedom, so in their mind cracking down on the people was for the good of the entire world and the only way to avoid such large scale devastation in the future. They set up what was desired to be an all seeing, all powerful government. They have specialists in mind reading who can secretly scan the thoughts and emotions of people on a large scale, and should they find someone who might be troublesome, that person is judged by a special panel and preemptively eliminated in secret should they reach that verdict. The person might not have even been thinking of committing a crime, but simply showed enough negative emotions that might eventually lead them to do something. There's also large scale brainwashing going on over the course of all the children's entire lives, nothing too major all at once so nobody even knows it's happening. Some problem children are given the more extreme brainwashing and memory altering procedures if it comes down to either that or eliminating them. However, if their mind is still troubled then they're left with little choice in the matter. Another precaution is placing barriers in people's minds to stop them from being as powerful as the government's warriors, and the magical safeguards placed in minds can even be activated, crippling the person in pain.
Due to these precautions there is very little crime going on (not taking into account the crimes by the government to ensure this is the case). That being said, the world is experiencing a long era of "peace" and they think everything's going wonderfully. There is no consumeristic society, so everyone just lives simple lives with limited technology (they've gone more to medieval days, although some more modern technology can still exist), sharing and living peacefully with one other. Their mind powers can now do a lot of what technology had done, so they can propel boats with their minds rather then having engines. All this hunky dory peace built on a lie, however, is obviously not going to last forever. What happens when a problem child is able to avoid being considered as such by the mind readers? He was able to grow in power and is now challenging the government as leader of a rebel group, although some believe him to be extreme enough to be called a terrorist. All the while people have no idea he's that way because his mind seems perfectly healthy and just whenever it is read. This allows him to operate without being caught, destroying government property left and right and trying to expose their darkest secrets. Due to how effective he is it's also assumed that he knows how to get around the barriers placed in his mind, making him all the more dangerous and the #1 enemy of the world, especially if he teaches his followers what he knows.
Meanwhile, a group of students unwittingly get caught up in all of this as they witness a terrorist attack by him on a certain government building, exploding away a wall to reveal a young girl contained within a vast multitude of chains from head to toe by the government workers. They hear the terrorist who was there to break her free talk with the government workers, revealing some of the truth to them. In shock they can do nothing as the girl is broken free of her bonds and she and the terrorist escape after killing the government workers before their eyes. As witnesses to this event their minds will be effected if viewed by the government mind readers. Can they possibly live normally after seeing what they just saw? Will they be considered problem children and executed should they show their faces? Some wonder if they should join the terrorists, others might want to confess to the government everything they know about the situation. Being close friends with one another, will these tough choices tear them all apart or can they all pull through this together?
That's the main idea. You can start out already as a terrorist, some member of the government, or one of these children preferably (around 4 to 6 of them, high school age or younger). The lead terrorist is for me unless you can convince me you'd be awesome with him by sending me a PM written from his perspective with enough content to show your skill with him, but can otherwise be about anything. You can even have him eating his breakfast, and if you can somehow show me how beautifully you play as him then you can get the part. He's very cool and calm yet charismatic at the same time. The girl that was found heavily chained up will also be an important character open for grabs, and she's very power, probably just about ready to be executed before she was freed.
