In the land, Reilla, tainted by darkness, only one man could save the people. One man to unite his fallen allies. One man to change the fate of the world. His name was Hargreaves, descendant of the Mountain folk, the supposed 'Son of Zeus'. After blowing the Dredge Horn he rose up against the darkness with thousands of the deceased at his command. And with his great sword of justice he planted it in the Usurper's heart to destroy all evil, forever.
Those were the tales the Hooded men told the children to be thankful for the land they were born into. Some believed, some didn't but in the coming weeks their hearts would be tested as darkness was creeping back into the world again. It began with the Unholy people, the disbelievers of the Son of Zeus, they began Ancient rituals to summon Demons from the Underworld and from there things went from bad to worse. The Unholy people were poisoned - their bodies taken over by spirits from the Underworld and from the spirits combined effort came a deep growl of anger from the shadows...
In the idyllic town of Moseley a small posse is forming to deal with a local Ogre warlord which has become more of a pest over time than anything else. However local farmers have complained that the warlord's troops have been burning too many of their crops and have produced bad harvests. A flier was posted in the tavern which has produced an unusual amount of attention. Perhaps it is because of the rumours of a new enemy in the world which is inspiring the inner hero amongst the subjects of the land but either way nothing is looking hopeful for our Ogre warlord. ;)
Normal, roleplay rules apply.
1. No god-modding, auto-hitting or general rudeness etc.
2. Please be sensible with characters, I don't want anything too over the top. Picture the world as something out of Lord of the Rings, so the everyday heroes are pretty normal people.
3. However don't let that bind your creativity, your characters can be all types of races and can be from wherever in the world as long as you make it clear why they came to Moseley.
4. This RP will be combat heavy, although it will have character development and relationships, just remember that during combat your character could at any time be killed so be aware.
5. For now, please only make one character and if this takes off then more will be allowed.
6. I will be the Game master, I will be playing a character too but will be in charge of fights and their outcomes. I will also be the narrator, introducing events but again don't let that limit you to describing the rest of the setting if you want.
1. Reilla is a magical world, full of unknown parts, the known world is sparse compared to Reilla's actual size so feel free to create races, cities, towns, forests, mountain ranges etc. Reilla is our oyster for moulding!
2. If you're unsure whether to join because I only have 7 forum posts, don't worry, I am very eager to role-play and have been doing it casually for years.
3. You may have noticed I used Zeus as a god, that's because I find the names for the Greek gods are the best to use for a fantasy setting, not that we are playing on planet Earth. This may give you an idea of what to expect from the enemies later on in the RP.
4. If the original backstory seems kind of hazy it's because it is! It's being retold from the perspective of the Hooded men, that original tale happened hundreds of years ago!
5. Have fun! :)
Character sheet (Just to get you started, feel free to expand at your leisure)
Race: (Check races below)
Specializations: (Magic, melee combat, ranged combat)
There are three specializations in this RP, Magic, Melee Combat and Ranged Combat much like a Moba! Don't feel however by picking one it completely stops you from using another tree. There will be times where your character will be allowed parts of other trees, for example if you want to be something more like a Ranger then you can be skilled at using a bow and a sword but your effective damage will be less for a sword, or a bow, alone however this makes your character much more versatile if the enemy get close to taking your life.
Races: (Please PM me a race you think maybe suitable and I will decide whether to add it to the world)
Strengths: Melee and ranged combat with excellent stamina and survivability. Most humans work in pairs or by themselves and enjoy travelling the world.
Weaknesses: Can not use magic, are suscepitable to the opposite sex and can be easily defeated with psychological magic.
Strengths: Melee and ranged combat, with an inexplicable toughness to damage, can survive great falls and are go-getting warriors making them the centre of any battle. Dwarves dislike other races although if beaten in drinking and eating competitions will normally bow to the winner. Dwarves work best in packs of close friends.
Weaknesses: Can not use magic, are easily defeated by elemental magic and are easily scared by the supernatural (eg. demons, skeletons, undead)
Strengths: Can use elemental magic, excel in archery, although Elves which prefer melee are known to use short swords and throwing daggers whilst almost dancing around opponents.
Weaknesses: Are frail and easily hurt from close combat, are easily defeated with psychological magic, tend to shy away from killing natural foes (eg. trolls, animals, beasts)
Chimeras are great friends... and foes. They are an ancient race yet as of late have become more friendly towards Humans. They appear standing upright but with bodies of animals, usually Lions, Tigers and Bears and hail from the Forests of Old which are located deep within the Eternal Forest.
Strengths: Can use psychological magic, can use melee combat, have excellent sense of direction and are usually calm, respectful beings with their priority on preserving the world.
Weaknesses: Are useless with ranged weapons as they can not judge distances well, can only communicate mentally, they can only roar and growl through physical means, tend to shy away from killing natural foes (eg. trolls, animals, beasts), only live in places populated by Humans and are easily beaten by elemental magic and ranged combat.
Centaurs are often seen to be guardians of the forests, mountains and wildlands. Basically, wherever Humans, Elves and Dwarves should not be should be where they are guarding. They protect the lesser creatures of the world, such as Gnomes, Littlelings and Tree Fairies. The lesser creatures hold much knowledge but are protected by these strong man-like beasts.
Strengths: Incredibly good at melee combat, are fast, are excellent for ambushes or scouting and get along well with Elves and Chimeras.
Weaknesses: Can not use ranged combat and can not use magic, do not tend to be adventurers, and can be easily beaten by ranged combat.
Strengths: Denoted from their reputation, Wizards are stirling at using all types of magic, they can even access special types of magic which include necromancy and summoning although only evil Wizards, called Warlocks, use necromancy. They get along well with all races but get along best with Elves as that is the race they originated from. Sadly, Wizards are only male for unknown reasons.
Weaknesses: Are susceptible to females, are useless at any type of physical combat and do not believe in the Son of Zeus (something to keep in mind)
You don't need to read this but it's basically because I like making up stuff! :D
The Hooded Men:
They are the religious people of the world, the equivalent of Vicars and as their name implies they are hooded by white cloaks. There are some which are extremists who believe they can see the world through the eyes of their Lord who wear white bandanas over their eyes instead. Some have succeeded, others have walked blindly off cliff faces and into rivers because of it.
The tale of the 'Son of Zeus':
It is known that a hero came to save the world from the darkness but there was no real reason. Further tales show that he was born into this world with one reason, to sacrifice himself to end the darkness and lock it away in the Underworld. It is not told but the Son of Zeus was killed when he destroyed the Usurper, the only thing which was left was his sword which is now part of a memorial garden on top of Mount Kane.
The Lesser beings:
Gnomes, Littlelings and Tree Fairies have been around before the darkness. They were the first to endure the pain and ironically there are rumours that they created all the other races. Although they are not intelligent beings they are supposedly incredibly strong with the use of magic, in fact it could be a sign that everyday intelligence (common knowledge) is merely a hindrance when dealing with great matters, it is important to get the balance just right and that requires magical amounts of wisdom (true intelligence). However, another theory is that the lesser beings are guided by Zeus and they are merely his workers down on Reilla. Wizards are known to have learned necromancy and summoning from the lesser beings.
General geography of the land (will perhaps make a map):
Mount Kane is in the north-west, Moseley is further south and closer to the centre of the known world. The centre is the Capital, which is called Angel City. The Eternal Forest lies in the East and stretches up to the North-east on the borders of the mountain range of Orkland. To the south lies the sea or at least that is what is thought it is, nothing has been discovered further south, or at least no-one has returned with information before.
