LEAVES IN THE WIND
Life isn't always easy. If you are human, you must take every step to improve yourself and to grow. If you do not, then you are no better than an animal. There are times, though, when everyone wants to go back to their youth, before their troubles became real, and to just be happy for a while.
The Island continent of Rubis contains 5 nations. In the center of the island lies the landlocked giant, the Kingdom of Hyalis. It is in this kingdom that events begin to unfold that will shake all of Rubis, and perhaps even the world. This, however, means little to those who live there. These are people who are building their lives.
They live, they love, they grow old, and they die. It is the way of the world for people to live this way, and nothing will ever change that.
Still, there are some who roam the country, not content to simply live their lives as they are given. Do they roam because they want to? Do they have some higher purpose in doing so? The only thing that will be able to tell them is time itself.
World and Terms
On Rubis, Magic is a widely known, but sparsely practiced art, chiefly because of the difficulty and amount of education that goes into learning it. A practitioner of Magic is known as a Runic Mage, named for the Runes used to catalyze their magic.
There are three families of magic, each one defined as its own by the most basic rune used as a catalyst.
The Gaea Rune is the catalyst for Physica magic. A user of Physica is known as a Physica Mage, and Physica magic is divided into the categories: Force, Blood, Healing, and Lightning.
The Solar Rune is the catalyst for Elemen magic. A user of Elemen is known as an Elemens mage, and Elemen magic is divided into the categories: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Elemen magic is the most common known family of magic in the kingdom of Hyalis, and at 4 cardinal points in the circular nation, there is a shrine to each.
The Lunar rune is the catalyst for Psychic magic. A user of Psychic magic is known as a Seer, and Psychic magic is not divided into any categories, as it only manifests in the form of a greatly enhanced spacial awareness. Unlike the other two families, Psychic magic cannot be learned by rote learning, and is only able to be performed by those gifted with it from birth. For this reason, the tradition of Seers has the Lunar Rune tattooed onto the palm of the Seer's weaker hand.
~The Kingdom of Hyalis~
Hyalis is the largest nation on the island continent of Rubis, though it is surrounded on all sides by 4 other nations. In spite of not having any oceanic access and being a poor trade state, Hyalis has been able to strive thanks to a well irrigated geography, allowing for easy travel and farming, as well as being surrounded by mountains, making the nation difficult to invade.
As Hyalis is a equatorial state, there are no seasons, though between the lowlands and highlands of the state, as well as the large landmass, it has different regions with highly different climates, some parts of the nation even covered with yearround snow, while others easily reach a scorching point every day of the year.
Hyalis is also a military state with a highly efficient and trained army. This army is led by 7 generals, who are known as the Knights.
The Knights themselves each have a title:
Knight of Mages
Knight of Fury
Knight of Arms
Knight of Marks
Knight of Tacticians
Knight of Commons
Each Knight has their own role in leading the military, and overall, they are led by the Grand Knight. The rank of each knight under the Grand Knight is not based on their title, but by their ability. For example, the current two strongest under the Grand Knight are the Knight of Marks and the Knight of Fury. In general though, the Knight of Commons is always the weakest knight, and more often than not, has little to no military standing, or even training. All the Knights except for the Knight of Commons have come from noble standing.
For all its prosperity, Hyalis is far from a paradise. There is a severe divide between the noble class and the lower class, and many nobles do not see any need to watch over the lower class.
Right, so a quick thing, here's the character rubric:
Appearance: I want at LEAST a paragraph in here, something well written and thought out. I know it's a bit fussy, but I'd prefer a hand created image for appearance. I know not everyone can draw, so I'm not saying it's a necessity, but I'm sure there are enough artists on the site that requests CAN be made for a profile image. Also, even though I'm a bit of a hack, I'm still drawing images for my character.
Personality: At least a paragraph please. Humans cannot be summed up in one line.
Background: This can be a little fuzzier, since I've not given much on the world we're in. I will be giving more information over the next couple of days that we can work with.
And here's a list of currently accepted characters:
Vance Nias by Me
SpoilerName: Vance Nias
Appearance: Vance stands at about 5'1 and has a lean yet muscular physique. His white hair is mostly slicked back and tied into a ponytail which reaches down to the bottom of his back. He has three antennae at thr front of his hair. Two go down over his face, one points off to the left. On the right side of his head, his face is framed by a messy bang. His eyes are a dark forest green, but they reflect the light brilliantly to those who look on him. He wears a simple cloak made of softened leather that also has a hood that may be worn over his head when cold. Standing from the back of the hood, a combination sheath and quiver, as well as the top of a longbow can be seen, resting behind his head. Under the cloak, he wears a slightly more ornate outfit, plain and dark iron gauntlets cover his hands and forearms, and matching greaves top his feet and protect his shin. His pants are made of plain off white cloth, and he is normally seen in a blue tank top and has black gloves that go up to his elbows which are used to pad his gauntlets.
Personality: Very mature for his age, Vance carries himself like an adult. He's very proud of his title as the Knight of Commons, though he does his best not to flaunt it. In spite of his facade, however, he is still a child, and is easily flustered in many situations, and isn't always as mature as he wants to be. Vance particularly enjoys the small moments when he can simply relax and act like a child, even though if anyone calls him a child or childish, he tends to lash out at them.
Background: vance was raised in a small cottage in the northern countryside of Hyalis with his mother, a homemaker, and his father, a hunter. From the age of 4, his father would take him along on hunts, where he learned both how to carry and fire a bow, as well as proper use of a knife. When he was 7, his mother concieved a second child, but as she carried it, his father grew ill and died, never able to lay his eyes on his daughter. In the wake of this, Vance was left to gather food for the family, taking over all hunting duty in the home. When Vance's sister turned 3, their town was visited by a band of Royal Seers, who saw his sister's potential as a Seer. The family moved to the capital city almost immediately, where his infant sister was granted a title as a noble. During this time, however, Vance's mother was accidentally killed by a dissident in a riot, leaving the children orphaned. After this, Vance started training so that he could protect his sister. He personally trained under both the Grand Knight and the Knight of Arms, learning both swordsmanship and the use of a bow for combat, and at age 13, he was instated as the youngest Knight of Commons in the history of the nation.
Alexis Chandle by Jinxer
SpoilerName: Alexis Chandle
Although it's difficult to see without anything for reference, she's only 5'. The clothes she wears are also the same as in this graphic (hence why I use it). The only addition would be a drawstring bag and a thin black cloak (with a hood) for the colder days of the year.
Personality: Feisty would be one way to describe Alexis. Carefree or rash another way. While she is careful not to give offense in conversation or manner she is a bit of a wild card when it comes to battle and tends to rush head on into things, trusting in her strength and skills to guide her through any troubles she faces. Kind to those around her and aggressively protective of those she's particularly close to, Alexis is somewhat a matriarchal figure who cares deeply for the well being for all those who do not trespass against her immediate friends. When faced with a foe she bears a grudge against, for whatever reason, Alexis has little control over herself and is being of fury incarnate with no care for the damage to either herself or her surroundings.
This is not all Alexis is, however. She has a keen interest in all knowledge and is an avid reader of almost any literature. Not necessarily quick to pick things up she takes joy in learning and expanding her own horizons and understands well she is still young enough to learn something from almost anyone.
Background: Having escaped a slaving band as a child Alexis was found near death on the roadside by a passing monk. Nursed to health in the nearby monastery she stayed for some time and was taught how to read and write as well as the combat style of the monks. Unfortunately for the monks her explosive personality proved to be at odds with their teachings of tranquility and calm, except for when she was in the library, but she nevertheless became a part of the monastery and paid her way by helping out in the kitchens and cleaning while the monks attended to their other duties. At the age of 20 she was summoned by the Head Monk and asked what she intended to do with her life, the life that had been saved by the Head Monk over a decade before.
Unable to answer, Alexis was advised by her saviour to head out into the wider world and find a place where she could employ her skills to their best ability. Gifted a simple cloak and a quarterstaff to lean on, Alexis left her longtime home and ventured into the world. A year later she had worked in a variety of places, namely tutoring noble children or managing libraries, but had gained a degree of experience as a sword and shield fighter, due to her efforts defending against bandit raids, as well as skill wielding the quarterstaff she carried at all times. Still, combat was the least of her skills due to its infrequent use. Currently Alexis is employed by a governmental archive, sorting and reorganizing records, laws and proofs of lineage.
Liliana Mist by Love to Write
SpoilerName: Liliana Mist
Meet Liliana. Her clothing looks like this and unless the weather is to warm she also wears the cloak as well. She carries a staff with a glowing light stone embedded into it's tip.
One major difference between the picture and Liliana, are the eyes. Liliana's eyes are clouded because she was born blind.
Personality: As a child Liliana was constantly unhappy and hated her life. She hated that she was blind and that people expected her to tell them their futures and for it to be 100% accurate. She felt chained, to a life she didn't want. Chained because she was blind. Add to that hopelessness, because she realized no man wanted a useless wife.
That all changed when her father gave her the best gift he could ever give her. He had a Lunar rune tattooed into the palm of her hand when she was 18, amplifying her ability's and gifting her a gift of spirit sight.
Now Liliana is quite bold. Allowing few restrictions to hinder her in her journey to find purpose. She supports herself by telling people their possible futures but warns them that it is only a possibility and not a guaranteed outcome. Lilian enjoys using her abilities to help those less fortunate than her, especially blind children. She is often see with a proud smile on her face. Not the typical sorrowful one you usually see on a blind person. Sometimes she can be overly brave and has, more than once, walked into a situation that she has had to fight her way out of.
More than once she's had people tell her that it isn't right for a young woman to be traveling alone. But she ignores their warnings and pleas for her to remain proper. Her excuse; she's been tied down by her blindness for long enough...her life is now her own, and she isn't going to waste a moment.
Background: A young couple, happy and recently married, gave birth to a beautiful little girl in the frostbitten city of Knight's Light. The mother held her child in her arms eager to see the color of their newborn's eyes. As the child opened her lids for the first time the mother wailed in sorrow and the father frowned, angry at the gods that his first child should be born like this. For she was blind and unable to see her own parents or the beauty of the world around her.
Fast forward 18 years. Liliana had been discovered to be a seer. She trained as hard as everyone else, even harder, perhaps, do to her disability. On her 18th birthday her father spent a great amount of the family's hard earned money to get the lunar rune tattooed into her hand as all seers have. The rune amplified her abilities and she found that she could now 'see' a person's spirit, and the energy in things around her. She had sight, in a way, for the first time. This opened up a whole new door of possibilities. She was no longer the poor blind seer sitting on the porch telling people their possible futures. She would travel, see the world. Do something no blind person had ever done before. And so Liliana Mist set off on her first adventure. It has been seven years since, and she has yet to return home.
Ori Erasia by Bladie
SpoilerName: Ori Erasia
Appearance: Ori is a fragile-looking, soft child. She is tall and thin. Her long, green silk dress covers most of her body, reaching from slightly above her feet to her shoulders, with the neckline dipping to her collarbone. Her face is round, and battered in shallow scars. Here eyes are like stained glass, blue on the left and gold on the right. The blue eye is partially covered by long, silver hair, styled in a way that lets it flow behind her shoulders, slightly to one side.
(A couple other thngs that I didn't find a place for: She has light skin, small ears, and... Small breasts.)
Personality: If it were possible to survive in such a way, it would be believed that Ori had a heart consisting of sugar. She lives only for others, helping and wanting only love in return. She believes that the only way to truely be happy is to make others be as such. Yet, there is a dark side in her, as there is with every perfect-little-nice-girl. Her memories of her dead friends, and her Erasia clan, which was wiped out less than a year ago, cause a combination of anger, fear, sadness, and hatred. She wishes to learn magic, as to keep her mind at ease, as well as swordplay, to defend herself.
Background: The young Ori of the Erasia Clan was born in the eastern nation. She lived through her first five years pucking all sorts of plants and flowers. On her sixth birthday, she was introduced to a herbalist who went by the name of Mir, and trained Ori to become her apprentice. Ori spent the next five years learning about every plant she could. By the age of ten. she worked with Mir, making soups, potions, and medicines. She lived this way for seven more years, until her village was attackacked.
The home village of Clan Erasia had been raided by a group of people that Mir had labled "Male." Mir warned Ori to hide, and not to look at the attackers. Ori hid in a basement for three days, until she ran out of food. She exited the hole in the ground to ask Mir if there was any food to eat left, but was silenced by the sight of the now faceless herbalist.
Ori ran from the village she once called home, the place that had been ransacked by people of a sex she did not before know. She ran until she reached a town, where she told her story to an innkeeper. The woman took care of her for a month, slowly allowing her to adjust to a new world that she would have never before imagined.
Finally, everyone who joins is, until further notice, allowed up to two main characters.
This is somewhat of an open world story, so I am open to suggestions on building the world and lore as time goes on.
And as for a final note: Playing as the Knights IS allowed, but I have plans for some of them, and one of my characters will be the Knight of Commons. You MUST ask me via PM if you want to use a Knight. If you say your character is one of the Knights without first asking, I WILL decline the character. As for the disallowed Knights aside from Commons, you may not under any circumstances play as the Knights of Fury or Marks.
As some of you may have noticed, this is a remake of the Interest check here. I have moved all the information into one post and hopefully streamlined it so nobody has to sift through all the crap around it. Anyway, I hope to start soon and see lots of interest!
