NationStates Issue: Children Gambling
Many of you know NationStates, this is the second time I chose to play, to officially play. Recently I came across an issue that I, first off, don't have any knowledge on. I've never delved into the subject let alone the addition of younger people.
Children Gambling, what are repercussions? Problems?
Don't insult me, just because I don't know how long a virus can live for outside of a body doesn't mean I'm stupid :P
I'm guessing this decision will ban Gambling altogether, but I don't see a reason to ban it. Hell, it'd probably be a better way for my economy to raise up, even though we rarely use currency here.
Social activist Gertie King is outraged. "Gambling needs to be outlawed immediately. It's no wonder children are becoming sucked into the vice, with adults setting such a poor example. Gambling is a stain on Magna Aequitas's international reputation and it must be stopped!"
I'm slightly siding with this. I really don't see the harm.
However, Crown Casino chairperson Lucas Rubin says, "What's wrong with children gambling? It prepares them for the realities of life, teaching them that success or failure is not due to hard work or intelligence, but the roll of the dice. Besides, if kids weren't gambling, they'd be spraypainting trains."
Okay, so a child has been given a few Gold Coins (Magna Aequitas current currency), it is theirs, their choice to use it how they wish. It's not exactly me encouraging them to gamble. But I seriously don't see a problem with gambling, period, let alone a child gambling. Now, gambling halls with half/naked dancers, I would have a problem with.
But, I reach out to nearby neighbors. What do you see as problems with children gambling, or gambling in general? Do benefits, if any, outweigh the costs?
