Triton Chronicles: The Great March IC(Drago + Grif)
The Great March
"My people will claim the world above, we will fight down to the last of us. The Black Solum shall remember our crusade." - Dyenak
~~Fall of Durga~~
The City was silent, night had shrouded the mighty city of Durga. The symbol of the Dwarve's Might, strength and valor, Durga stood as the fortified city in all of Triton. Most consider it impenetrable, the dwarves have known this for centuries, during the Titan's reign, their masters. Night fell upon Durga like it does every other city in Triton. The streets nearly empty. A drunken dwarf or two wandering back home, roguish dwarves planning their next scheme. The Wall Guards marched back and forth, for protection, and to open their gates for their own scouts and patrols who wander the darkened caverns of the mountains. The city built half inside the mountain, what's exposed was an area mainly for the Beast Tamers, a way to learn their recruits and to not lose their touch on riding their tamed Griffins.
"Anything out of the ordinary tonight?" one passing guard asked the other. "no, there's anything out there. besides, its not like they can break though our gates" they both laughed. "I agree, it almost makes this job pointless. Hey at least we have it easier than the others, imagine trying to tame one of those Mountain Trolls?, damn bastards are too feral if you ask me." both the guards headed back to the barracks to rest. The night was long, and often Wall Guards would work together, developing friendships along, or even relationships. Tonight was going to change everything. And not for the greater good.
As the off duty Guards sat around, discussing the results of today's Arena Finals a low rumble could be felt, a strange noise could be faintly heard coming from outside. "d-did..you hear that?" the young Rookie guard asked worryingly. "tis nothin, probably some Cyclops making love in the caverns...it happens quite often."The Rookie was not convinced. Heading out on top of the eastern tower, the caverns darker than usual. The same sound he heard before was definitely coming from the abyssal darkness he saw before him. He felt the tower beneath shake slightly, a terrifying roar was heard throughout, prompting the other guards to move out. The ground shook more violently, a strange outline was faintly seen within the shadows. "W-what is that? We need to sound the alarms, we are not taking an chances!" the guard ran as fast as he could signal for the possiblity of a battle. The Rookie looked on, seeing the image of a monstrous creature moving as it steps shook the ground beneath, a low growl could be heard. The beast was a large Wrath Wyrm, creatures that resided within the Shallow Gate to slumber. This one was awake and ready for something.
The beast let out a soul crushing, blood boiling roar with a relentless charge building up. The gates couldn't withstand the power and force of the beast's charge as the gates swung open with a mighty thud, before falling down, smashing through the towers as they hit the ground. the surviving guards managed to light the pyres signalling for the breach at the gates. The rookie slowly emerged from the rubble, seeing the damage the Wrath Wyrm had caused. "By the Titans...we've been attacked!" Just before he stood, that's when he saw the figures. Demonic looking, wearing full plate armour or ragged mage robes, the attack was from none other than a Velkari horde. He had only read about them in books, powerful and bloodthirsty, these barbarians are not to be messed with. the rookie quickly stood up and ran as fast as he could. His superiors needed to know so that they could counter attack them.
As the horde of Velkari marched through the gates, one in particular stood out. He was larger than the others, standing a good eight, maybe even nine feet tall. Fully armored, and weilding a giant blade known as "Mountain Breaker" Was none other than Dyenak. "Tonight we take this city for ourselves! Tonight we crush the Dwarven worms into the ground, and feast on their young! I, Overlord Dyenak, the Tyrant lead you all to victory!" His voice deep and loud was filled his army with spirit as they all cheered in unison. Wave after wave poured in, all ready to destroy the Dwarve's spirit, and take their home for their selves.
The battle raged in the night, Dwarven Battalions and Centurions stood to defend the Warlord's Keep, their seat of power. The last line of defense, a whole army of Velkari monsters against a few hundred of the best. The siege was successful, the sacking of Durga, the "Fall of Durga" was to be a lesson learned in history; The Great March is near unstoppable, especially lead by a Tyrant the likes of Dyenak. Civilians, nobles, and even The Beast Tamers evacuated their home with the helps of a wandering Feral-Kin tribe. they watched as their city was in flames, As Velkari tossed Dwarven soldiers off the cliffs as they were trash to be thrown. This was a last stand, they knew this was all hopeless, but their valor and courage, their will was not broken yet. They were ready to die, but they were going to take as many as those Velkari as they could, to die on their terms and stand as heroes. "Men!...we won't survive this battle, I'm not going to lie to you. This is how we will be remembered. We will take a stand! against those Velkari Bastards! They may have taken our city, and killed our friends and family, but they won't... they won't forget about this night! They will learn the hard why we are the chosen children of the Titans, so let's kill some of these bastards and join our masters in the lands above!" their commanded rallied, his men raising their blades, their weapons into the air as they charged forward. Fear did not hold them back, it made them stronger.
The battle last a couple of more hours. While a valiant effort the last of the Durga Army was slain. Dyenak looked upon the deceased. "Honour these men, they fought to their last dying breath. Do not feast upon them, give them a proper Velkari Funeral. He marched through the halls of Keep, statues of the great Dwarven Warlords towered above him, the halls silent with only the sounds of footsteps from Dyenak. The Velkari Overlord looked upon the throne, his eyes narrowing down to it. "We have conquered Durga, from now on, Durga is our capital, understand brethren!?" His personal horde cheered for his rule. The Great March had gained it's first victory. The Fall of Durga was a huge loss for Triton.
~~Menlos, Veruvian Port Town~~
The sun was bright overhead, shining upon the blue ocean. Ships sailed into the docks, others sailed away. The Ave Maria, the infamous ship that sailed in end the invasion of Lasief and his Desert Elven Army was ready to dock. the crew moved to their stations, whilst others hid various loot that was scattered aboard. The Large man clad in leather armour looked out to the Port Town. The sabre wolf by his side watched a keen eye to protect its master from anything. "It feels good to breath in that Veruvian scent on the wind, you will like this place, Blade, plenty of fat pigs to hunt down. Blade gave a bark for his reply. "You know, I've never tried Khulverian women before....or even Maldraadi women, tell me, are they beautiful nomadic women, or just hairless versions of you?" Dakeer petted Blade as he stood and leaned over the edge. "I wouldn't make that comparison with a them, if I were you. Maldraadi women are not to be trifled with." Thron replied. Dakeer sighed as he then looked back to his crew.
"You know, it would've been nice to have Luca on board. Then again after the incident at his wedding, I don't think he will want to join our crew again." Thron held back a laugh. "You running naked through the ceremony because you slept with three of Jarren's top students, and they just so happen to Luca's friends? Yeah, you embarrassed him." Thron remarked. "Well, when you put it like that, it sounds not at all fun." Dakeer replied. "Alright men, we are staying in the port town for a while. So enjoy Menlos! and Veruvia! but be warned, no trips to Mulstapah." he then looked to Thron. "Yes, they are not very welcoming to strangers. They will take you in as slaves if they find out you are pirates." Thron furthered Dakeer's point.
A young hooded girl wandered the docks. "I'm sorry, I'm looking to travel to Triton." The young dock worker pointed her to the Ave Maria. "Ship came in just now, Elven Captain." the young girl nodded. "Wherever he is, I'll find him.."
