Tolkien's Oregon Trail
I dreamed I was in a roleplay playing a hobbit traveling in a covered wagon. That hasn't been done yet, has it? I thought it would be neat to have elves, dwarves, humans, and hobbits traveling the Oregon Trail. Are they led by a trail guide or a wizard? Are they attacked by Indians or orcs? How many elves will die of dysentary? Anyone interested or have suggestions?
Curious. Will we be designing some sort of quest to go on? A reason for the trail? Or are you just planning on smashing our world and Middle-Earth together?
You have 4 destinations to pock from. The Oregon Trail comes with its own quest(s), which makes things easier for me.
I might be interested but I would like to know a few more things first. Namely, is it Middle Earth or something else? And with that, is the technology and all the same as Tolkein's books? (Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit mostly.)
Let's say for whatever reason, some elves, dwarves, and hobbits from Middle Earth moved to Missouri. We'll be playing the second generation, who know stories of the "old country" but are traveling west to be American farmers or miners.
I have played a game that took place at the end of the trail. We were all dwarves and died horribly.
I would like to see what happens when fanciful creatures travel the trail.
Anyone want to be my Co-GM?
I am actually quite curious about this premise.
For clarity's sake, however:
Firstly, from what you've outlined, AAB, I'm assuming that that Tolkien's races being in America will be explained away with a simple sentence? Such as: "A bunch of Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits, Orcs, Goblins and other peeps went on a boat ride. Captain went by the name of Gilligan. They got lost, crashed in a 'New World', called it 'America' and two generations later decided to go on a trip."
Secondly, are we strictly adhering to how how Tolkien wrote his races? (i.e. Hobbits aren't too keen to leave their Shire, Orcs are just plain mongrels through and through)
Finally, since this is a crossover RP of your own dreaming, does this mean that you are hoping to have the Tolkien races advance, technologically speaking, along the same lines the New World explorers did? That is to say, rifles, flintlock pistols, dynamite, etc.
Sorry if I'm pointing out too many avenues, you just keyed in to the imaginative INFP in me and I couldn't help but let my mind a-wonder :D
Other than that, reserve me a spot as a dwarf?
I'm an ESTj (ISTJ in MBTI; that fool system keeps mistaking me for an introvert just because I'm not emotional and don't like crowds) and welcome any questions that can help flesh out this idea. (See my signature for more personality info. I can't tell whether you're my dual or my conflictor or something else entirely.)
This will be the second generation. Their hobbit parents were likely at least part Took, and our characters have never been to The Shire. They may be reluctant to leave the homes they know, but perhaps they're hoping the west will be like The Shire their parents spoke of. That's up to the roleplayer.
Yes, they will have the technology of the Early Americans. whether or not they took to it is up to the roleplayer, since they'll be able to decide bother their character's personality and upbringing.
That's one dwarf. I'd like at least one of each of the four races. A human could be either second-generation-from-Middle-Earth or X-generation-from-Europe. Or China or some other place, I guess. But I think they were mostly Europeans on that trail.
Any more questions or suggestions?
I tried to take the Enneagram but got confused :C
All I know is that I'm a 5-7-9? Are they supposed to be in a particular order of Strongest to Weakest? If so, I'm a 9-5-7? 5 & 7 are tied?
OH GOD, WHAT AM I?! :P
EDIT: Oh, wait. Nevermind. I'm something called an IEI? I must read on this...
