Kako to Ima
◑ A Meeting from long Ago ◑
Spring. The trees were in full blossom at this time of the year. At least, those by the entry of the school were. It was, once more, the coming back to school for every students. For the first time in a while, they had to go through the familiar process of waking up early to get ready before walking to school. For Sakiko Manami, it was a welcome change of air, though. She was about a head smaller than most other students of her age and had long, perfectly taken care of hair. She was a quiet person, though it had not always been the case. It has been a few years since she began taking her studies way more seriously, and even stopped seeing the many friends she used to have before. Now, she sees them only at school, which was one of the reason for her being happy about today. She quickly got ready, gave herself a last look in the mirror and put on her shoes before saying a good bye to her family and leaving. It was still pretty early and the air outside was fresh. It felt great, the nostalgia of leaving for school in the morning. Many other students were on their way for it, some alone and some in group of two or more. Sakiko walking to school alone, taking time to admire the fully blossomed sakura trees by the entry of school. After heading to her locker in order to put on her interior shoes, she left for the class early.
In the past, Sakiko was always with friends, let it be before, during or after class. She had been quite popular with people, boys included, but it all changed a few years ago when an incident happened. She always preferred to keep it to herself and never really spoke of it, even to her closer friends. Since that, she closed up on people, refusing to go out and pretending it was in order to take her studies more seriously. Most doubted it, but they accepted it nonetheless. The truth miles away from that, though Sakiko embraced that lie and focused all she had on it. Soon enough, she became the top student of her class and also represented them in the students council. Anything that could fill her mind and keep her from being alone with her thought was welcome. All except seeing people, for some reason she felt awkward when people tried to get too close to her and she hated this feeling. People began seeing her as the working hard student, and although she was not cold or anything, she was hard to interact with.
The halls of the school were full of friends meeting up after a long and great summer. Sakiko made her way to their classroom as quickly as possible, still greeting a few people on her way there. She felt at peace immediately as she entered the room and had closed the door behind her. She loved the familiar feeling of it and could hardly wait to meet with their new teacher of this year. Quietly, she sat down at her assigned place and occupied herself by placing books and paper in an ordered way on her desk. It did not take so long before other students entered the room. Some of them would let out a; ''Hey there, Manami-Sama!'' or ''How was your summer, Manami-San?''. She would answer them with a smile, but no more and they generally did not as anything more than that. The class was bustling with people talking and laughing. Sakiko had two closer friends, but they did not seem to be in her class this year. The thought of them made her smile, and she thought she should pay them a visit after the first class. At this very moment, the door opened and all were brought to silence as their teacher entered the room.
''Hello everyone, my name is Osamu Murusame and I will be your teacher this year. It is a pleasure to meet all of you.'' He said in a serious and professional tone of voice, yet it was warm and sincere. Everyone answered kindly to him before he continued. ''Let me start this first year by presenting you with a new transfer student. She comes from another town, but I will let her present herself. Please be kind with her.'' With this, he gave the girl a sign to come in.
Sakiko stopped breathing as soon as she saw her come in. Someone could have punched her directly in the stomach for a similar result. She had changed, but Sakiko would never have forgot the face of her once dearest friend, a person with whom she almost grew up and with whom she shared so many memories. Hamari Shizuku. Somewhere inside, her feelings told her to run away and leave the class. To flee. Of course, it was only a surge of emotion and Sakiko remained perfectly calm on the outside, but her inside emotions were in turmoil.
How could she appear out of nowhere like this. What was Sakiko supposed to do and say...she hoped Hamari would not notice her right away, at the very least.
