A small group of colonists leave the ravages of earth for a distant planet orbiting Alpha Centauri's primary star. Their ship the United Nations starship Unity, carries them on their journey to a new world and a new hope for humankind. Along the way a rector malfunction damages the Unity, precipitating a crises among the ships most powerful leaders. As they enter the Alpha Centauri system the crew splits into 7 distinct factions divided not by nationality, but by ideology and their vision for the new world. After the ship breaks apart the 7 leaders guide their chosen crew down to the surface of planet seeking their destiny beneath an alien sky..."
-"When we left earth", Datalinks
You awake after 40 years in cold sleep, the bright light of the binary suns fills the window ports that run the length of the Unity. For a moment all is still, the hiss of the opening cryopods growing as the rest of the crew is waking; it is a moment of elation and peace. But that moment is shattered as a rumble is heard, and the ship jostles violently. Klaxons begin to blare as the automated alarms begin to sound in a cold metallic voice "Reactor breach, all hands report to your emergency stations." As you hurry to your position you begin to wonder, what will happen now? Now that you have reached here will it all be snatched away, the last dream of humanity denied? When you reach your position and enter into the ships datalinks you begin to hear the seven voices of the council leaders arguing over what to do next, how to proceed in this new system.
Finally they decide on one thing, they must get off the ship. But as the heated debates between them split the council, it has also driven a wedge in the crew. Suddenly the crew is now seven parts each of the leaders takes the piece of the crew that has followed and agreed with their own vision and enters the colony pods. You take your place in the pod that you have been invited on, perhaps it was not the one you were originally assigned to but it is yours now, you are among friends, sisters and brothers, all who see the world as you do. But as you rocket away from the fragments that were once the Unity, you begin to wonder what the future holds, in the light of these new suns.
But who have you chosen to follow into this future?

Quote: "The righteous need not cower before the drumbeat of human progress. Though the song of yesterday fades into the challenge of tomorrow, God still watches and judges us. Evil lurks in the datalinks as it lurked in the streets of yesteryear. But it was never the streets that were evil."
-- Sister Miriam Godwinson, "The Blessed Struggle"

Quote: "I weep for us. Not because we have lost a home and now must cast ourselves out in a desperate exodus to find a new place under the stars. No, I weep because I am afraid. Afraid that we have not remembered what sent us out here in the first place, and soon these lessons we have so easily forgotten may return one day to snatch the stars from our eyes."
-- High Myth Keeper Marius, "The Thoughts of Yesterday"
Note: While there are 7 actual factions, contact will be limited with those outside the three listed.
Planet is roughly 1 1/2 to 2 times the diameter do earth. Its liquid water oceans cover around 80% of the planetary surface. Both the air pressure and the gravity are within normal human perimeters. It has nitrate rich soil and most of the surface is covered in Xenofungus. The atmosphere of planet is a composition of large amounts of Carbon dioxide, nitrogen and various other gasses. Finally it is orbited by its two moons, each being about half the size of earth's
1.The very atmosphere of planet is toxic to humans and will kill us if we so much as spend a few seconds outside without a mask, as it bonds with the blood and dosn't allow it to bond with oxygen. Sending us into a gasping death.
2.Xeno-fungus, is a root like fungus that covers the entire planet. It comes in a swath of colors and is more of a nuisance than a threat, by gumming up treads and gears.
3.What little natural fruit is on the planet is also toxic, as they contains very high amounts of nitrates.
4.Finally are the most terrifying dangers. The Mind Worms. 10-12 cm long these worms travel in huge colonies of thousands called boils, each boil is capable of destroying an entire city alone. They paralyze their prey with psychic terror and then plant their larva in the brains of the paralyzed victims so that way the larva eat their way out of the, still conscious host. They come in three kinds, The normal land based Boil, the Isle of the deep (a waterborne boil that moves in Planet's oceans), and a rare winged variation named the Locusts of Chiron.
Datalinks pieces are generally spoken or written on Earth before the Unity left and have been digitally coded in the libraries for the new colonies references. Another purpose of the datalinks is to serve as the collective records of the humankind's achievements for the future generations to be born on the planet. Datalinks hold a great library of literarily, philosophical, intellectual, social and every aspect of the human cumulative knowledge that exists (it is routinely described as the entire sum of human knowledge.)
The tech, ascetically, is not that much different from what we know now. Except for that windows are rare, due to the Planet's toxic atmosphere, and touch holoscreens have replaced much of the old computers and TVs that we know. Alongside the buildings in the city there are also select structures that cater to the needs of the psychically gifted members of the population placed a points in almost every city. Though the ascetics of a city will change from faction to faction (for example the Spartan cities look like massive sealed fortresses, while the Believer's looks like towering cathedrals).
Weaponry starts off much like it is now, based on ballistics and other conventional weapons. In fact the most common weapon being the Shredder pistol and the Shredder Rifle (ballistic based weapons that fire low yield explosive shrapnel rounds). But as time goes on it takes on more drastic looks such as laser based weapons, harmonic deconstructors (also known a chaos weapons) and plasma weapons. Though there is one weapon that doesn't change, the only one that is effective against the mind worm boils, and that is the flamers
One of the greatest advancements that have been achieved is that of the Longevity Regimen. It is a series of injections and saturated medicines that render the patient near immortal. The only catch is that twice out of every decade the patent must be put into a coma like sleep for six months so the medicines can saturate through the entire system, very few can receive the Regimen however due to fears of incredible amounts of overpopulation.
Psi users, or psychics as they are coequally known, are humans whose mental faculties have exceeded that of singular thought. They are able to reach out with their own mind and touch others in ways that were only thought fairy tales on earth. While not a very rare strain they are still considered a very small percentage of the population of a given city (this includes ‘latent Psis’)
Some of the basic Psi abilities are as follows
• Mind reading
• Telepathic communication
• Telepathic suggestion (though this only applies to weak willed people)
• Object influence (This requires a very powerful Psi user)
• Psychic Terror/ Empathy
• Psychic Attacks
This RP would focus mainly inside of High Myth Library and the surrounding cities, though there would also be parts where it focuses on different part of the world. These places would include other faction’s strongholds and the various warfronts that appear.
1. Please no god modding
2. Please tell me if you are leaving
3. Be a nice person
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, I will happily answer any question you have on the setting
Finally 5. Psi-able people are not supermen, they can read minds, communicate telepathically, etc. but they cannot regenerate mortal wounds with a thought or stop bullets
Actually sounds pretty good. Interested in playing a psychic.
Huh, a sid meiers alpha centauri RP. Haven't seen one of these around before. I like the games and have the RP book.
Is this a faction game or are we adventurers with a quest?
