The World: Earth, year 2045, shortly after a world wide apocalypse that ravaged the civilization and left it in tatters. Fifteen years ago The Swedish Hadron-collider Under went a fatal malfunction that caused an explosion that flattened europe and ravaged the rest of the world. Lucky for humanity, 10% of the population lived in massive underground cities, or on space centers for the rich and wealthy. Ten years after the explosion those underground (7% of the population) Felt it would be safe to venture to the surface. What they found was chaos, The explosive wave that had mostly left North and South America unscathed had caused a massive tsunami that battered the eastern coast for three whole days. This relentless destruction caused a deadly virus known as Specimen V to be unleashed to the world. The virus caused a zombie like state in whomever it entered and quickly spread throughout North America. Humanity ha survived however and because of the advanced technology it had before the apocalypse some of it's traits may be considered strange to people of our time. For instance, genetic molding had began to grow popular just before the apocalypse. This process allowed a human to take on animal traits, Fur, strong scent, keen eyesight, and what have you. This strange human-animal hybrid race became known as Moreau. Several advancements in weaponry had been made as well; laser rifles, Gatling guns, plasma rifles, and some other rather creative equipment had been recently pushed past the development state. This Role play will take place Predominantly in North America, in New york and the surrounding areas.

(P): Humans, while scarce can be found pretty much anywhere in the wastelands, many have formed small groups and factions in order to more secure their survival in the new and harsh world. Humans are considered to be relatively weak and their lives are almost always in peril. Humans were the main contributors to the apocalypse so many of the other races have turned against them and blame their current inconveniences entirely on them. Humans have many problems that other races do not.
1: Lack of clean water and good food.
2: Need for sleep.
3: Need for shelter.
Types of humans: Humans have formed many different factions and places in the new world, they each use different tactics for survival and many care very little for the other humans still surviving.
Raiders: These are sadistic and barbaric humans who kill for fun and pleasure. They steal from other humans without mercy and usually leave little to no survivors. It is very rare that raiders will show compassion to other humans, and most of those left to their mercy are found raped and murdered on the side of some old world highway.
Slavers: These slightly more desirable humans use slaves to keep themselves alive. They keep the slaves in line through shows of force and brutality.Slavers are unpredictable, in some instances they will help others, in others they will simply enslave or kill them off. Slavers are not barbaric, instead acting with keen swift movements. Most of these types believe in efficiency and obedience. Slaves will not be punished if they follow these guidelines.
Moles: These people were those who had been living in great under ground cities until 5 years ago, they are more compassionate then many others because of their innocence to the wastes and tend to create large well guarded communities that attempt to re create the life they left when they ventured to the surface.
Survivors: wanderers, Wastelanders, adventurers, call them what you want but they are all the same. Each one of them are for themselves and themselves only. They have survived through selfishness and suspicion and continue to do so. Some of these people have locked down whole small towns in order to ensure their own survival. Some simply wander the wastes, betting on their own two feet and luck in order to survive.
Settlers: Settlers are those who have banded together to fortify a specific area in order to survive. Communities of settlers range from 5 to 30 usually and are very suspicious of outsiders. They trust each other like family but will very seldom let any others join their safety net. Some even outright kill those who try and enter their territory. It is possible to gain entrance into one of these places, but it is extremely difficult and usually requires support from inside the settlement.
These descriptions of course can vary from place to place. They are simply a broad template for you to base human characters on, human characters do not need to be any of these types, if you feel I have missed a type of human in this description then please let me know as I will be happy to add it
(P) Moreau are the human animal hybrids mentioned before in the world explanation. These cousins of the humans can reproduce, but only through two Moreau of the same animal (IE wolf and wolf). The child would then be of that Moreau type as well. Moreau's, while being much rarer than the humans have found peaceful co-existance with their racial cousins. Moreau are the only human cousin race that does not outright hate humans generally. Some however do these Moreau are known as Feral Moreau (NP) and will attack humans on sight.
Moreau explanation: A Moreau is a hybrid between a human and a wild animal, this hybrid is created through a proccess known as genetic molding. The exact details of this process were lost to the apocalypse. A Moreau can have a varying severity of animal traits ranging anywhere from simple increase in certain senses to a fur coat and animal behaviors. The more a Moreau takes on the appearance of an animal, the closer they become to being a feral Moreau. A Moreau's similarities to the animal their animal type is dependent on the original genetic molding they or their ancestors went through. Hybrid molding (between two or more animals and a human) was attempted aswell, however any who underwent this treatment lost the ability to reproduce. Hybrid Moreau are extremely rare.
Moreau exist in generally the same fashion as humans, they have generally the same problems and survival tasks but have a much easier time at successfully surviving for multiple reasons.
1: Most human hating races do not hate the Moreau, they seem to think that the Moreau under went the same fate as they and instead only minorly dislike them for being friendly with humans.
2: The animal senses and abilities they possess give them strengths that humans do not have (IE increased endurance for certain Moreau or sometimes instinctual survival methods, or even keener eyesight.) because Animals lived in a feral world to begin with Moreau have an easier time adapting to the new world than regular humans.
Feral Moreau (NP) Feral Moreau travel in packs ranging from 10 to 45 and will attackhumans on sight, they will however not attack other Moreau, Feral Moreau have from time to time been witnessed fighting one another.
(P) Mutants are completely hostile to humans, especially human mutants. Mutants are the aftermath of the radiation caused from the Hadron collider explosion 15 years previous to the story. They have extremely increased strength but are lacking when it comes to mental capabilities. Mutants are considered evil by all non mutant races, and are generally scorned upon by all. Mutants hunt humans for fun, they enslave them, torture them, and sometimes even eat them. Mutants have some human brain function left but the only real thing they can process are simply sentences and and an unholy anger towards humans rooted in the belief that humans made them into what they are now. Some mutants (PC) have retained some more cognitive function than others, they have kept the ability to speak and are usually leaders of bands of their more brutish brothers and sisters. Mutants are stronger and faster than humans by tenfold, but are easily fooled into obvious traps and perils. A prepared human can handle several mutants, but if caught of guard it is most likely the end for them. Mutants often use clubs for weaponry, the smarter ones use simple rifles.
(NP) Infected are those infected with the desease mentioned in the world eplanation, they hunt humans even more mercilessly than mutants, and have no higher mental functions. They act on instinct, hunger, anger and other base emotions that make up the human consciousness. Infected go by many names, Zombies, geeks, drunks, anything you can come up with, they have been called it. They tend not to eat Moreau however because of their animal genes, Moreau often act as scouts for human survivor groups for this reason, however it is possible for an infected to attack a Moreau who stays around for a little to long. Infected walk in a slow and limping fashion, they move quickly when in close quarters with an unexpected strength that makes getting in their grasp undesirable for all humans.
Much of Eastern New York, Currently known as New York East (NYE) or Lost New York (LNY), was majorly irradiated during the initial Hadron collider explosion. Five years ago however, survivors noticed an unexpected and drastic decrease in the radiation in that area. For some unknown reason LNY became able to support life once again. Many people began to move further east, following the receding radiation line. The march east came to an abrupt halt at Manhattan Island 3 years ago however, as many raider and settler groups began to claim territory at key points of entry to the main New York Island. The re-claimers gave up and were content with simply surviving the day to day. That however, has changed recently, and three of the stronger factions in NYC have joined forces to take military action against those that would stop their march eastward. The Reclamation for New York has begun anew, which side will you take?
Union: The oldest and strongest faction in New York City, and perhaps even all of New York State. Union is currently tasked with maintaining upkeep on a massive defensive line seperating NYW and NYE. This line is a precautionary measure against any threats from the newly settled east. Union is a very prosperous settlement they have recreated pre apocalypse lifestyle within the walls they have created. These "Walls" are simply conveniently placed debris that has been fortified by the faction. Life within Union is good but they have capped their civilian population at a little over 1000 due to a lack of resources, the other three thousand members of the faction has been tasked with defense and maintenance of the line and Union walls.
New York Resettlement Agency: Originally one of the reclamation groups sent to NYE by Union, the NRA has become a fair, well governed, and highly defended faction that dedicate itself to assisting survivors within the NYE ruins. Most of their facilities are either military or medical, food and water resources are imported from Staten Island and Union itself.
The Cardinal's: This faction was never from Union, they were formed shortly after the initial settlement of NYE out of a shared need for survival. They have seized a large pre-apocalypse Aircraft carrier and use said vessel as the main shelter for their people. They have a military presence on the ports that extend out to their home but not much elsewhere. They have recently asked Union for assistance in a conflict with the Bayonne Settlement.
Staten Island Reclamation Corps: The SIRC was originally a research crew sent to investigate the nature of the receding radiation in NYE. They settled in and have formed a faction since then however and are responsible for the cleansing of 75% of all of Union and her allies water supplies. Their army is made up mostly of hired mercenaries and they are currently engaged in active warfare with the Shore Acres Settlement
Shore Acres Settlement: These Settler's are extremely reclusive and self sufficient, much like hte Bayonne settlement they refuse to allow any Union force to enter NYE. Their army is extremely well trained and supplied, many give an outside influence credit for this, but despite the source they are a force to be reckoned with and threaten to overrun the SIRC.
Bayonne Settlement: They are a hostile and cannibalistic settlement that has set up near the Cardinal's position. They only hold themselves close and have begun to capture Cardinal scouting and scavenging groups without warning or mercy. Cardinal is planning on striking back soon, but will need the support of Union in order to do so.
The Red Hand: This group of sadistic and merciless raiders has set the NRA in its cross hairs. Skirmishes have broken out in the area between their two faction territories and war is threatening to take over Manhattan Island. Thes Raiders have support within Brooklyn however, an unlikely backer that has his sights set on Union it self.
Lovell Estates: Very little is known about this reclusive and influential Settler faction, apparently their military is very large and well trained. Rumors say that they live in luxury, yet are enlsaved by their lives. Many rumors and legends have formed of them, some untrue, some true. This mixture of legend and fact have made the fear the west has for them grow recently.
Tribe of Roaming Spirits:
Chiefs - There are three chiefs within the tribe that make decisions for the tribe. Including areas to hunt, what to do with outsiders, whom to trade with, and also commands their warriors in war.
Shaman- The healer and wise one of the tribe. They teach the ways of their life to the younger generation as well as guiding them along the right path. Giving wise words, and healing the wounds of the injured. They are also seen the closest person to the spirits of the planet and is highly respected. Offending one leads to high dishonor.
Geronimo- Warriors who have finished their pilgrimage and are seen highly respected. They overrule regular warriors and are considered to be the strongest and wisest among the warriors. Also have first rights to any woman.
Warriors- Consists mostly of men, they are tasked with defending the tribe from any threat. Patrols their territory border, and also goes on hunts for forest animals.
Gatherers- Consists mostly of women and children, they are tasked with gathering clean water, useful supplies, and growing crops.
A symbol of the path to full adulthood and being a true warrior. Anyone of any age may take this journey that consists of leaving the tribe to find a useful item from the outside. It could consist of food, water, a weapon, or a token considered blessed by the spirits. Whatever it is, it must be considered useful for the whole tribe to be accepted. Few return and many perish, but if the Pilgrimage is successful, they are then considered Geronimo.
The tribe believes in the spirits of life itself. Animals are considered powerful spirits who may lend strength to the mortal people. For example, a tribesman would consider a wolf Moreau 'blessed by the spirit of the wolf' instead of the term Moreau. Believing the Wolf Spirit had have birth and gave its gifts to that Moreau. They also bless the spirit of the water for giving them the substance to survive.
For every kill they make in a hunt, they thank the spirit for giving them food and also apologize to the spirits child. It is considered very dishonorable to offend the spirits and waste what the spirits have given them. They hunt and grow what they need.
Moreau's are considered rare and well respected. Believing they are descendants of the animal spirits.
They refer to machines in different things then normal people. Guns are called 'Death Of Man' for its destructive nature as cars are called 'Metal Beasts.' They don't usually use them and remain with their tribal weapons such as bows and arrows, and spears.
The tribe also believe in darker spirits that overtake a man's heart. Such as the spirits of lust, greed, hatred, sorrow.. All that darken they eyes of man and blinds them.
The warriors consists of mostly men that trade off with hunting and fighting. Trained in both, they hunt wildlife and are extremely aware of their surroundings. Trained in stealth and to use their surrounding to their advantage. Climbing trees, swimming, running, and so on. When a possible trade comes, traders must leave their weapons with their comrades as one person comes to the heart of the Tribe. There, the trader may speak to the Chief's for possible trade and make their offers.
Although women are allowed to be warriors, it is a much rarer and difficult action. Many believe that a woman should remain being a gatherer and tending the children but if they prove their skill through fighting and hunting, they will be seen as a equal. Especially if they finish their Pilgrimage.
