Forewarning: This is more a cry for help than an interest check thread.
What I’m about
I’m a twenty-year old kid from Norway who’s sick to his stomach of sci-fi, fantasy and all other magical, fantastical or supernatural genres or themes. Fewer and fewer roleplays on this site have any root in reality. I crawl the interest check threads daily, but it’s been a while since anything really caught my interest. Most of the plots and characters I see are weak, fundamentally flawed or don’t make a hair of sense. Many seem not to grasp that a character is a tool to tell a story, whether it’s in a book, movie or roleplay. In the same spirit, a plot is a collection of events which make the story, not to be confused with the premise or motive. To be clear, “vampires going to high school” is not a plot, but a motive. Superficiality and ignorance are two things this site’s user base seems to have in abundance.
Creativity levels seem down. I see all the same fandoms, all the same ideas. The site has become more and more homogenous since I joined, which is why I’m not going about it the usual way this time. I have no wish for this roleplaying community to become stagnated. I’m not going to tell you what I want from you, nor am I going to push any “rules” on you. These are creativity-suppressing factors I would like to avoid. My wish is to encourage you to use your brain, not to follow my recipe.
What I’m proposing
Option 1: Send me an IC private message, starting off a RP. I will reply IC within 24hrs and we’ll be in a RP.
Option 2: Send me an OOC private message with a genre, time period or with whatever details you’d like to include in the RP. Within 24hrs I will have sent you an IC private message back, starting off the RP with any and all premises you sent me.
Option 3: Poke me with an OOC private message. You don't need to include anything else than that you're interested in doing a RP. Within 24hrs I will have replied with an IC private message, starting off a RP.
For fun, and to see what kind of reaction I get, I also made a poll. If you have more to say about the subject, comment down below.
I'd shoot you an RP if I had room for more 1x1s...but I don't. I did, however, want to offer a theory for your observation of how few "real world" RPs there are. It's probably for the same reason I normally don't RP more real settings--because I live in real life--so why would I want to RP a clone of the world I live in? I adore creativity, and as such fantasy and sci-fi are some of the most appealing to me. So is a good Fandom, IF the characters are OC's, barring a very good reason to include canon characters.
If I ever have an opening for a 1x1, I'll shoot a PM your way :)
Creativity in its own sense has nothing to do with fantastical worlds. A roleplay in a fantastical or science fiction setting isn't more creative simply because it's in a made-up world or include made-up powers or technology. You can just as easily be just as creative with the real world, which is partially my point. Superhuman powers and space ships aren't original or creative ideas anymore, but people seem to treat it as such.
True, very true; what I mean by creative, is that...it's like this. RPs that take place in this real world are quite limiting. Sure you can still do a lot of character development, plot development, etc. etc. BUT, in a fantasy setting, for example, you can build your OWN world, one that is not limited by the laws of our own world. One that has more species than just humans and animals we see every day. You see what I mean? It's not that you can't be creative in a real life RP, it's just that you are very limited in one; which is why I never got into those.

I partially agree with you, with the caveat that there still can be original ideas for super-powers or space-ships, but people tend to stick with the cliche's rather than come up with their own unique ideas--possibly because it's easier and faster to get an RP up that way--but the real question is can it last when you rush it like that?
I'm up to my neck in great RPs right now.
