Every now and then, a roleplay hits an achievement that roleplayers are proud of. Whether it is an anniversary, completion, or even something has simple as post count, they need to be celebrated. This week we have The Cairn War which celebrated its 500th post! It was brought to our attention by xXCrazyJXx who is a player in the RP which is GMed by AbbieNoel. Here is what Abbie had to say about her RP.
The Cairn war takes place 10 years after a major apocalypse. A virus had been leaked into the general public, causing massive panic and distruction. People were killing each other, as the virus had begun to make them insane. Different countries began to feud over low food sources and general needs, causing a massive nuclear holocaust. Either you lived or died. After the war, the last of the surviors tried to rebuild the only country left, which they named Cairn. The virus had caused many to lose memory. Vampires began to take over the cities to rule the humans and feed off of them while angels and werewolves idly sat by to try to reanimate their lives as it was before the war. Many animals had mutated, but some survived the war as well. Surviors are now rebuilding what was once their pride land, hoping to overcome the struggles they had faced.
We are not close to ending this roleplay, and I cannot believe that it has been over 5 months since I started this! I am so proud of my fellow roleplayers as well as my Co-GM xXCrazyJXx. This roleplay still has a far ways to go, and we are always accepting people! I have come to realization that The Cairn War is like my baby, as I shape and weave our characters throughout the many endless possibilities that they can face. Thank you for all of the work team. We finally made it to our 500th post!
Want to be featured for a RP Milestone? Take a look at your roleplay and see if it fits any of these criteria:
- It was recently completed.
- It has celebrated a year anniversary recently or will sometime in the next six months.
- The IC has recently hit it's 500th or 1,000th post mark. This can also be 1,500, 2,000, etc.
If your roleplay has reached any of these milestones, or if you think your roleplay has reached a certain achievement that is not listed, please don't hesitate to PM Lillian with the link to the roleplay and a description of the achievement. If you are not the GM, but wish to surprise the GM, that can also be arranged. Happy Roleplaying!
The Player's Voice
Sokolniki ran into a situation in a RP of his that brought up an interesting question he wanted to pose to our users.
How do you feel about Timeflow manipulation magic/technology, both general effect and localized, in a roleplay? Do other GMs and players feel it may be too overpowered or anti-fun for the group? What other type of effects do people feel might be potentially dangerous to the fun or flow of a roleplay.
Please PM your response to Lillian. Feel free to suggest questions as well!
Remember, the newsletter is about building community, inspiring others and connecting with people we might not run into otherwise. We'd love to open it up to some user content. Whether it is a comic based on the Guild or an article about role playing you think people might enjoy, please PM it to us. Ideas as well as content are very welcome as is discussion within this thread. We want to hear from you.

Title: An Incredibles idea
GM: Jones Sparrow
So I had an idea based off the plot of Pixar's movie, The Incredibles... What if there were superheroes and villains out there, and people adored them and thanked them for their duties of protecting everyone... until one day the government forces them into hiding. To keep their secret identity their only identity. What would happen? Would some die in a blaze of glory, will some gladly accept the offer, or will others just face the music, go along with it, but dream of the old days where they were helping people?
I thought that that would be a really fun RP, with original characters and aging from children to old men. It could be a family of supers, a father/mother hiding their powers from their family, teenagers trying to cope with their powers, or old heroes reliving the glory days.
I am thinking that at first it will be secretive, but then a supervillain comes along that no police force can stop, so the old (and new) heroes will have to come back and stop them. How will the people or government react? will they accept them again, or will they become vigilantes?
Title: Planeswalker Academy a magical school RP
This is incredibly detailed. I've easily got pages of character, backstory and world saved to different hard-drives, notebooks, or just floating around in my head. For the amount of work I put into this world, it could easily be advanced. However, I really don't want my players to feel restricted in any way. Despite how the world feels to me, I'd like it to be easy to play.
The basic plot in a nutshell:
Magic exists (duh). Everyone is born with the ability, but varying levels of talent. However, an extremely rare fraction of the population are born as planeswalkers: extremely powerful mages with the unique ability to cross between alternate dimensions. Your characters would be planeswalkers, fairly young ones: aged 14-19 (adjusted for species, I'll get to that in a moment.) whose talents have just been discovered. The setting would be mainly classroom, in a fantasy floating castle in another dimension. I will play the faculty, and maybe one student if I get bored, I'll throw lessons, field trips and the occasional crisis situation at your characters, all building up as part of a plot that I already have figured out.
Information for you:
As far as the mundane world goes, it looks exactly like the real world today. However, non-humans are allowed, specifically elves, drow, werecreatures and at most one vampire or dragon. However, this falls under "Our generic fantasy creature is different".
I'll be explaining exactly how when this gets to OOC.
The whole magic thing is a very well kept secret.
Students will only be from earth and it's sub-planes (I'll explain later.)
Have a soul. The only thing that's going to make this interesting is if your character relates to and develops alongside his fellow classmates.
If you're used to roleplaying a soulless combat monster, get out.
If you're used to always being taken seriously, prepare to be laughed at.
If you're used to taking everyone else seriously, prepare to laugh.
No legal representatives of Sony Entertainment.
I am active-duty military. This may mean, although extremely unlikely, that I could be called off to random ass inconvenient duty at inconvenient times. I'm not gonna say deal with it, but hey, cut me some slack, I work for like $4 an hour.
Finally, don't be an ass. That is all.
Title: Beyond Two Souls RP idea
Beyond: Two Souls RP idea
Click all links for info on the universe! v
Hi you guys :)
I've been away from the community for a long time now due to a loss within my family and the time i have had to put into my college work.
Anyhow I'm back for now!
For you that know me, I'm a true lover for deep role-play experiences that include a lot of emotional depth and feelings, ones that can sometimes cause you to shed a tear.
As a result, i have concluded that i wish to conduct a new advanced role-play idea which will be based upon the new video game: Beyond - Two souls by quanticdream.
I already have the game one day before release and have played throughout its gripping 12+ hour story, which can be completely different to every player due to a variety of player driven decision making.
Now i want to ask you guys this, would you all be interested in a role-play which is based on this or set in the same universe or even on the same characters, i can give lots of information on the universe for those that know nothing about it!
Lets get some ideas bouncing off each other and we will see what we can come up with! :)
A videa has also been placed above the trailer so people can get an idea of the emotions and feelings found in this form of emotional thriller.
Also, this could probably work better as a 1x1.
Love you guys <3
Allow me to Present:
Story Coming very Soon!
(P.S Will be based in the same universe but as a completely new story with new characters! so playing Beyond: Two souls wont be required, People can apply for Entities for a chosen human character created by another player If i find the CS acceptable, they get the position. So someone will be playing as my characters entity also.
But if someone can't find an entity for their character or rather not have someone controlling their entity, they can control their own as long as they don't god-mode and such. The good thing about pairing is that each player will ALWAYS have someone to role-play with as they are linked, they can't leave eachother. Interaction between human characters is also possible and applications for CIA and DPA positions will also be available, however they don't have entity's. ALSO note that in this role-play your human character CAN die, but in this universe... Death isn't the end :) more information to come soon. WIP)
Prepare For Tears.
Some things to take into consideration before the full OOC thread and story goes up -
Entities are linked to their hosts via their umbilical cords. These Entities don't want to be stuck with their hosts to where they are like a lion in a cage, however they need each other to live. If the human hosts dies, they go to the afterword and the entity gets to go with them also. However, death isn't the final stop. Even if your character dies... you are both entities then, but free. However leaving the afterword to get to the human world is almost impossible without a rift. The reason these linked entities can effect the world with their powers and are in it is because they are stuck between two worlds, with their host and in the afterlife. Entities don't just control and link with a character. You are born with an entity from birth. As for Entitiy powers you can chose them as long as they are within reason, good examples are like Aiden and jodies which are: Force Field, Telekinesis, Causing Freezing, Possessing people, reading memories from items and dead people, healing wounds. Many others could be possible but i must accept them Please don't assume entities are randomly generated evil ghosts that take control of people. They are not. Entities chose to protect their human counterparts as they are the only company they have, forever. Thing about it this way, the entities (ghosts) are human beings, but dead.
Another thing is that because they are linked. The human counterpart can actually take control of the entity for a short period of time by their-selves where their eyes roll into the back of their heads. But doing so causes their brain trauma, resulting in nose bleeds and if it goes on for too long, fatigue and death. So basically the safest thing to do is just tell your entity to do things for you, and they can agree or disagree to do it or not.
Also, CIA and DPA positions are available. They don't have entities. but, they want to capture these humans with entities for military applications. And they have entire enforcement units at their disposal.. Duo's will have to fight to escape and survive, or they are captured... But the story continues, they are either tested like lab rats or forced to become CIA field operatives their selves, but with entity's. Also... I forgot to mention the "Monsters" In the depths of the afterword are creatures, all the bad souls and demons. They are controlled by me and can escape to the human dimension at anytime, attacking anything in sight, so be on your guard. Remember, you are a character that is tried and just trying to survive with an entity, you are not a soldier trying to kill others constantly. This is your story with an entity, even living in your apartment drinking coffee all day is a legit RP. But however, I'll keep you on your toes with events.
Title: Attack On Titan
One hundred years prior to the beginning of the story, giant humanoid creatures called Titans (巨人 Kyojin?) have forced humanity to retreat into a system of concentric Walls (ウォール Wōru?) known as Wall Maria (ウォール・マリア Wōru Maria?, outermost), Wall Rosť (ウォール・ローゼ Wōru Rōze?, middle), and Wall Sina (ウォール・シーナ Wōru Shīna?, innermost). Inside these walls, humanity lived in peace for one hundred years, but in the beginning of the story, a sudden attack by a gigantic sixty-meter Titan and a smaller Titan covered in armor plates causes the outermost wall to be breached, forcing mankind to abandon the land between Wall Maria and Wall Rosť, which leads to famine and turmoil.
Little is known about the Titans, giant creatures that are usually between 3-15 meters tall with a few exceptions. The Titans instinctively attack and devour ordinary humans on sight. However, they apparently do not need to feed to survive, as they do not prey on other animals, even with the long absence of humans, and can survive by absorbing sunlight. They have hard skin and regenerative abilities, and can only be killed by a deep incision on the base of the neck. This weakness led to the development of the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment (立体機動装置 Rittai Kidō Sōchi?), allowing humans to navigate quickly in a three-dimensional space to access the Titans' weak point. Although it allows great mobility to a skilled user, it carries a large risk of overtaxing the muscles, requiring special physical conditioning and a sense of balance to master it.
[SIZE=4] Throughout those hundred years, generations of humans moved and passed, allowing the next installment of children to take over the new precautions of mankind. The walls were completed and mankind was deemed protected within this safe haven. Even though it would seem the walls would hold any Titan intruder, the fact was, that was never granted by anybody. With that said, a workforce of construction workers throughout the three walls were created, their main priority, enforcing the structure of the wall so that it becomes impenetrable by any Titan. Though it was deemed impossible, security measures must be taken to prevent the unlikely. Haines, eighteen year old male, son of Bridgette Techeira, was part of this construction crew. In order to make a little money and support his household, he had to do a dangerous job that would bring in the most dough. Being a construction worker meant hanging two titan sizes off the ground, meaning about thirty plus feet. A lot of workers fell during this time period, the harnesses weren’t the sturdiest even though the creation of the vertical maneuvering equipment had already been issued. That equipment was for government use only, meaning, soldiers of fortune that fought against these giant humanoid being day in and day out. It always seemed like these soldiers, regardless how well they were equipped, always lost their lives in battle. Titans were sometimes seen as immortal, frightening humanity to their pits beneath the ground. Those pits weren’t a metaphor; they are truly running underneath the three walls for possible refugee when necessary, but the strength of the Titans sometimes overpowered those pits. Now back to reality, reinforcing an entire wall of about unimaginable size was hard work, hard work that took years to accomplish. Through those years, just imagine how many people died not only building the wall, but having Titans at their feet during that time. When the wall was finally complete, it became one of humanities first triumph victory. This risk was taken by Haines every hour of every day. He worked long hours without breaks to eat or to rest. Resting would cause one to be fired immediately; there is always someone to replace you if you didn’t give it all you had. It was about five thirty in the afternoon as people of my generation would say; Haines was hanging from a thin, yet sturdy, rope. He placed the flat trowel on the wall, building a circumference of cement around the area he was working on. “Haines! Get your ass down her boy!” the boss yelled. The teenager let go of his wrote and quickly made his way down, pushing himself off the wall with every jump. As his feet finally reached the dirt beneath him, he untied the rope from his waist, allowing it to dangle from the top of the wall. “Yes sir?” Haines asked, not sure why the boss had called him down. “You were late this morning you know?” For a second, Haines wasn’t sure what the man was talking about, but suddenly remembered the entire situation. “It….I was helping my mother get to a doctor, she’s been sick for wee…” he was interrupted by an annoyed deep voice. “No excuses! You know this job is serious business. Go home! You’re dismissed for the day. I’ll let you know when I need you again” the manager said, walking away. Haines stood there for a couple seconds processing what had just occurred before him. His eyes squinted from the anger that started building in his chest. With that, he walked home, looking at nothing but the ground, cursing everything around him. “F*ck this place, I hate it. Why the hell is money always the most important thing” he murmured to himself, kicking a small stone, causing it to fly through someone’s window. “Oh crap!” Haines said as he took off quickly before anyone noticed him. Once he made it home, he made sure to knock before entering in order to not startle his sick mother. “Mother, I’m home” Haines’ voice echoed. The house was nearly empty. They weren’t wealthy at all; only things they owned were necessities, necessities to survive. Haines took the luxury of walking to his mom’s room to see if she was sleeping, due to there being no response. As he entered the room, there wasn’t anyone there. The bed was made, sheets completely straightened, but there was a note. “Dear Haines, I’m going to visit the doctors today. I may just stay there for the night, I’m not sure I can make two trips. Your mother’s getting old. (Signed) Mother.” After reading that, Haines threw away the letter and huffed angrily. “Stupid woman” he facepalmed as his veins popped a little, “How are we gonna pay those bills, I pretty much just lost my job!” He stood motionless for a while in attempt to loosen the aggravation of his thoughts, then left his mother’s room and took charge out the front door, locking up behind him. His hands were trapped in his pockets as he shoulders came forth to look as if he were hunchbacked. Haines was going to go to the doctors to make sure his mother had actually made it. She was a weak old woman now and she always needed assistance. It was strange that she took actual priority of doing something as risky as walking alone a few miles across town. It wasn’t like her; she would never put her life in jeopardy. “This isn’t my lucky day” he laughed. “It never is."
Title: Wolves Of The Maelstrom
Welcome to the Apocalypse
It has been decades since the world died. The last scattered remnants of humanity scrabble hard-fought lives out of the blasted earth, fighting and killing each other as though the downfall of civilisation wasn't enough. Mutant animals, grotesques and other stranger creatures hunt us from outside the lights of our hardholds. Freak weather patterns, bizarre geological activity and worse make living in Apocalypse World both hellish and unpredictable. People who had an ounce of give in them have long since curled up and died. The only people left now are those with a freakishly strong survival instinct. None of us will, fuck that, none of us can go down without a fight. The hunger pangs may be slowly driving you insane, old bullet wounds may be reminding you of the times you fucked up, that hacking cough you can't quite shake may be keeping you up at night and the sleep deprivation may be making you hallucinate and at the end of it all, the Maelstrom may be screaming hate and death in the corners of our minds but so what? I'm not lying down. Fuck that noise. Are you?
Title: The Walking Dead – Phoenix
"You know...Americans are obsessed with life, death and rebirth. That's the American Cycle. You know...awakening...tragic, horrible death...and then the phoenix rising from the ashes. That's the American story, again and again."
Tomorrow it will be 100 days since the outbreak. 100 days since the dead began walking. 100 days since the Earth went to hell in a hand-basket. Governments crumbled, society burned, civilization rotted away, leaving a handful of survivors facing legions of the walking dead. Humanity's greatest strength, the only thing left to cling to in this god-forsaken era, is hope. Tomorrow it will be 100 days since the outbreak. Tomorrow, the Phoenix will rise!
Two survivors have established a fortress in rural Connecticut within the confines of an abandoned high school campus. They've spent the past few months fortifying this position and have decided to establish a safe haven. They've managed to broadcast a continuous radio beacon containing this message...
"This message is for any survivors. Repeat, this message is for any survivors. If you can hear this, proceed to 43 degrees, 33 minutes, 28 seconds North; 73 degrees, 11 minutes, 23 seconds West; Nonnewaug High School. Repeat, proceed to 43 degrees, 33 minutes, 28 seconds North; 73 degrees, 11 minutes, 23 seconds West; Nonnewaug High School. We are survivors. Repeat, we are survivors!”
