The vampirates are to put it simply, vampire pirates. Once before, they had only been a children's song sung to persuade children to stay away from the water at night in order to avoid any mishaps with drowning and the like, but it turns out not all of it was untrue. Who knows where the original song came from...but it did shed light on a whole new sea threat. Many people still do not believe though, dismissing it for the silly nursery rhyme it had never been.
Sunlight: Any exposure to sunlight causes severe conditions. In several minutes, a vampire can be seared to death by it's deadly rays. In roughly fifteen minutes, their sight is forever lost. The rays cause horrible burns, that will more than likely end up scarring afterwards.
Silver: Silver has the same effect as sunlight, if it touches the vampire. It will too scar up, and usually leaves a nasty infected wound in it's wake. If you do not seek medical attention right away, it can be life threatening. It deteriorates the flesh around the wound and the wound itself.
Heart/Decapitation: If you decapitate or rip out a vampire's heart, it's sure way to end their undead life. Especially if you burn the remaining parts.
Each vampire is given a single psionic power. It varies for each one, depending on who they were before the turn. There are no 'elemental' powers or the such. IE: Powers would be like telekinesis or telepathy. Any other vampire can also have the power, meaning don't be surprised to see someone else with it. Unless I have personally given you permission, the limit stays at one.
In order for a human to turn, they must be bitten by a vampire over the age of 200, making them a full adult vampire. The human must be drained of all blood in their system, and but right before death must drink the blood of an adult vampire. Timing is key, meaning even being a second off will cause the human to lose their life. After this, over a time period of seven days and nights, the fledgling will awake periodically, hungry. The adult vampire, now a 'Creator' at this point, will have to feed the new fledgling their blood, establishing a link between the two. This will allow the Creator and fledgling to communicate telepathically will one another as long as they are near, but only with each other. On the seventh night, the Fledgling must consume the blood of a mortal to become a full vampire. If any of these steps are failed to be completed, the fledgling will slowly die of pain or hunger from the thirst. Even then, it's entirely possible that the fledgling will die due to the intense pain of the process of changing, their still part human body can give out on them.
Feeding systems are differ on each ship. A fledgling must drink at least once every two days, lest blood lust take control over them. An elder or adult vampire can train themselves to go days and days without blood, sometimes even weeks or months. But the most skilled are able to feed off the life energy that emanates from those around them. These vampires are old, wise, experienced and extremely dangerous.
A stage where a vampire has been deprived of blood for too lon, and go into a full on beast mode. The vampire's eyes will glow a menancing red, they will be extremely dangerous and reckless, there nails and all teeth will be elongated and sharp. Along with that, their facial features will become distorted and more animalistic. The vampire will act purely on animal instinct, no longer their former selves. The only way to cure it is to feed them a large supply of blood and lock them up somewhere safe for several hours to make sure they calm down. Even then, it will be a while before they're able to function again. For the first several hours, their joints will be painful and locked up, and for several days they will feel lightheaded, woozy, parched, and irritable. There will be intense pain in the lower stomach and chest as well as chronic headaches and fever
Feeding methods for each ship
Devil's Conquest: Every three days, a great 'feast' is held. Every vampire and donor will sit at a table and once the donor's have finished their dinner, they will be dismissed in pairs to their cabins. From there, they're allowed to be feed in privacy.
Rules: No human is to be totally drained, or turned without captain's notice. Feeding must only tak eplace on scheduled dates and times.
Consequences: If a vampire kills a human donor, then that vampire will be banished from the ship and thrown overboard. If a vampire kills another vampire, then under certain circumstances, they will be left at the sun's mercy. Any other breaches of the rules will be handled by the captain and a jury for a trial.
