Back Home (between me and TwinkleMoon)
Jess sighed as she got off the taxi from the airport. "Home sweet home...is this even home without mum?" she thought as she looked up at the tenement building which contained the flat she grew up in with her mother Mary.
Two days ago Jess had got a phone call to her home in New York. The call was from the local hospital back home in Scotland. They were calling her to say that her mother had been in a car crash and had died. Jess hadn't seen her mother since last Christmas and she hadn't even spoken to her in over a week. Jess was 25 years old she had moved to America when she was 18 for college. She had got a academic scholarship at a fancy American college. It was the only way she would be able to afford a fancy education. It hurt moving away from her mother but she made her go. Her mother always had high hopes for Jess and pushed her to take any opportunities she got.Jess had told herself when she moved she would see her mum again soon but now she never would.
Mary had brought Jess up herself. She became pregnant with her at 18. She was so embarrassed to be accidentally knocked up she ran away from home. She brought up Jess alone barley scrapping by when it came to money. However in Jess's eyes she was still the best mum ever. Even when things got hard for Mary and she suffered from depression she was still always there for Jess. She was always encouraging her to do well in school and was very supportive when she came out to her as a lesbian at age 15.
Until Jess left home her mum was the only one that knew about her sexuality. Jess wasn't really nervous about what people thought...well all but one. She did care what her best friend thought. As Jess grew up she had one close friend. They had lived near by and had known each other since they were 5 years old. Their families became close and they became joined at the hip. When Jess realized she was gay however she also realized she was in love with her best friend. That scared her. She didn't want to loose her best friend so she tried to stay away from her to get over her. It started to work however when they were 16 she got a boyfriend and it just hurt too much for Jess to see them together. By the time they were leaving for uni they barley spent any time together. They hadn't talked since Jess left for America.
Once Jess was done with school she didn't come home however like most folk her age. No Jess stayed in New York with her new love interest Molly. Molly was in Jess's class at college and they hit it off right away. They now had a fancy apartment in New York. Jess was doing freelance art work and blogging work and Molly was a layer. Molly having such a high profile job didn't have time to come with Jess to Scotland. She never came with Jess to Scotland. She had never even met her mother. That upset Jess but she wasn't going to bring it up she knew Molly worked hard for them and didn't have times for trips.
Jess headed into the flat with her bags. It was a small two bedroom flat but it was cosy and it was home...it was home when Jess's mother was there. Jess sat down on the sofa with a sigh. Her blue eyes looked rather dark with rings around them. She hadn't slept since she heard about her mother. Her pale skin had a slightly grey tinge to it because of dress. She was dressed in black skinny jeans which hugged her curvy hips nicely and a grey and black button up shirt. Jess wore mostly guys clothing apart from her bras and jeans as she was rather curvy and there was no way guys jeans would fit over her hips. Her brown hair was cut into a short pixie cut. She had a kinda butch look about how she dressed but her face was rather sweet and young looking.
