Not a Fan of Pet Names (for me and Raafling)
Jess took a deep breath as she looked up at the big house in front of her. "This place is a mansion not a house."she thought as she looked down at the paper in her hand once again to make sure she was at the right place.
She was. This was where Jess was going to work and live for the foreseeable future. She didn't know if the size of this house should excite or upset her. On one hand living in a place this grand looking would be amazing, or at least a big improvement from the damp little basement room she had at the orphanage. However it also had it's downsides, for one cleaning this place was going to be a bitch. Then for Jess there was also the moral issues...is it her morals or her pride that don't like the idea of being a maid in a big house like this. It felt too much like the kind of house that Victorians maids used to work in. Ones where the working class women that kept the owners house from falling apart and raised their children had to remain hidden at all times and sleep in a cramp little bedroom even though their was many spare bedrooms that were more than big enough.
"Being an unequal human is better than being a pet to a human."she thought to herself for the 100th time since she found out she got this job. That was Jess's choice here be a maid or be a pet...or well there was the third option of...death. You see Jess isn't really human, well not all human, she is simply playing the part. In reality she is a cat person...yes a creative name but it was better than saying she was a descendent of experiment X24.
Experiment X24 was the first ever cat person. They were created by a scientist who was meant to be finding the cure for cancer. The scientist had been looking at cats and the idea of them having 9 lives. Of course that was just an old saying but to the scientist...mad scientist it made perfect seance. He started having crazy ideas about merging human DNA with cats. Of course he never got approval to do this but it didn't mean he couldn't carry it on in private. Not only did her carry it on her used his wife as his est subject. She was experiment X24. For months he was secretly injecting and feeding her the drugs to merge her DNA with a cat's. There was no results, which he was grateful for as a few months into secretly drugging her she told him she was pregnant. He stopped the testing then and hopped that would be the end of it realizing how crazy he was risking his wife's safety like that. However that was not the end of it as 9 months latter their child was born...with cat ears, cat tail and cat eyes.
Of course the media was all over this so the scientist ran off with his wife and child but soon other crazy scientist heard of this and went out in search of him and his amazing formula. In the end him and his wife were shot and killed by the government and their daughter taken for testing and breading. Around 30 years latter there was hundreds of cat people. However it wasn't ever considered these people were intelligent. There was an escape and the cat people ran out into the wild. Some were so angry about how they were treated by the scientist they attacked humans. This got them labelled as violent and all testing on them was made to stop. The few that were still in captivity were forced into being domesticated and becoming pets. The ones that got free lived in the wild but were constantly running from the authorities who either wanted to kill them or put a collar on them. That was the law now. Now all cat people must either be "put down" or be collared so that it is clear they have a owner.
Jess's parents were wild cat people. When Jess was only 5 years old they were captured by the authorities. They were killed but one of the officials took pity on Jess and took her to their sisters orphanage where heir sister allowed her to stay as long as she hid what she was until she was 18.
Jess turned 18 a month ago. The orphanage owner said she could either leave or war a collar and be sold as a pet, which Jess coming from a wild cat background and being rather proud of that refused of course. So now Jess was getting her first job with her brown ears pinned down hidden under her hair, her tail strapped to her back under her skirt and contacts in over her eyes. Jess's ears to her misery were always too big for her head like a kittens and her tail was very puffy. Her ears had a odd greenish blue tinge to them that suit her well. Her hair was in a short brown guyish cut but was very thick so hid her ears well, her skin was pale and she was short with a curvy shape.
She took a deep breath before knocking on the big wooden door. Inside Deirdre who had stayed off work today to meet her heard and went to the door with a smile. She was a tall middle age women with dark hair and a slim figure. She had a mum look about her but was still clearly a working girl with the strong way she carried herself.
She opened the door and smiled down at the small brownet. "Hello Jessica come in we have lots to go over." She said.
"It's Jess!"she thought but remembered she had to behave if she wanted this job. She needed this job.
