My Guardian Angel
((This 1x1 roleplay is between myself, Diabolus, and Brittany C.))
The city rose around him like a thousand imitations of Babel, before the Father's wrath had brought it down. He had never liked cities, to be honest, especially not the cities of today. Their choking smog, their loud noises, their great populations...people, he did not mind people, but the darkness was what unnerved him. In great numbers, the darker depths of the human heart became ever more apparent, the negativity as thick as the smog.
He sensed the Archangel's presence, and shook himself from his thoughts.
The Archangel stepped into the mortal coil like a ripple spreading across water. He appeared as a man in a dark blue suit with an intensely handsome face and bright blonde hair, wavy and soft as silk. In his own coil, he felt shabby and incomplete--his simple gray hoodie and blue jeans blended into the grays and darker colors of the night, and his light brown hair seemed like coarse straw by comparison.
"Azarel." The Archangel's voice was like honey.
"Yes, sir." Azarel snapped to attention, giving a deep bow of respect. The Archangel returned only a nod of the head.
"Your next assignment has been determined." Azarel took the scroll that was handed to him, read the sacred script within. Instantly it was burned into his mind. The Archangel continued. "The girl has made contact with the Fallen. You are to determine whether it was intentional or not, and to protect her from their continued influence. The use of the Fire is authorized."
"The Fallen, sir? Are you sure I am adequate?"
"You are stronger than you think, Azarel. And if you have trouble, you may always call upon your brethren."
"I see. Thank you, sir."
"Will you go now?"
White light erupted from his shoulders, and he unfurled his wings. He wrapped himself in the sky, to hide from mortal eyes, and leaped into the air. In the space of a wingbeat, he soared above the many towers, leaving the alleyway and his superior far below. He headed towards the address he had been given...and his new charge...
The early Saturday morning was rising and the sun was coming up. The young girl Claire woke up and stretched. She wished it wasn't morning yet. she was dreaming a good dream about her seniors year. Lightly smiling she whispered " two more days".she got up and got dressed for the day. Claire had no idea what she was going to do today at all. She went down stairs to talk to her mom for a little bit and had a prettty good conversation about Monday and everything that happened last year. Her mom hugged Claire and then she went up stairs. Claire went up stairs as well and played down for a little more
Azarel landed without a sound atop the roof, his wings folding into his mortal coil once more. He looked over the neighborhood, taking note of the local landmarks. He would need to become intimately familiar with this area in the coming days. He closed the eyes of the coil and let his spirit see instead. The girl was inside, in what he assumed to be her room, not doing much. She seemed like any other normal teenager. So perhaps this assignment would not be so different from his last, then. He wondered if the girl prayed at all as he sat down on the roof to wait.
Couple hours go by then Claire got up and changed in to something warmer. she let her phone charge as she got ready all the way. Grabbing her phone she goes down stairs and hugs her mom" I'll be back a little later, I'm going to my friends house to hangout." "Ok hun." Her mom said" be back before dark!" She .said said as Claire left the house. Claire walked out and started walking
As the girl left, Azarel hopped down from the roof. Such a fall would have broken human bones, but he was made of light, not the dust of the earth. He landed silently, and followed the girl at a leisurely pace, wrapping the air about him to remain hidden. At some point, he thought, he would have to fashion another coil to step into, so that he could help guide this girl. He wondered what would be best--a new neighbor? A new student at her school? It would all depend on what kind of girl she was; their meeting would have to be natural, normal. It would have to be an interaction where they would quickly become friends, or at least acquaintances. For now it seemed she was heading towards a friend's house, unless she had lied to her mother. He didn't think she had. Perhaps they would be doing something in a group, like going to a mall or a party, though it was still early for that. Both scenarios would present a variety of ways to make contact with her.
After 10 minutes of walking Claire had gotten to her friends. She haven't been at her friends for a couple weeks. But have seen her at school and they walk home after." Hey Claire how are you?" They both hugged and went inside and then sat down on the couch."what's new she asked." Nothing much, just been helping my mom out, going to work and school." She told her friend everything even though they don't visit a lot. Her friend Kelsey told Claire that her ex Devin was acting strange. Claire looked at her friend right away." What do you mean?" Kelsey told her and Claire look at her confused because they have had broken up for a year and thought he was over her. "Let's talk about something else".asked Claire. So Claire and her friend talked about other stuff and then Claire told her she had to go check on her mom. They said goodbyes and claire left to go home.
Eavesdropping on their conversation told Azarel a great deal about the girl, and he committed as much of it to memory as possible. One thing, however, caught his attention above all. When Kelsey talked about a boy named Devin, apparently an ex-boyfriend of Claire's, he sensed a dark fear in the other girl. Claire seemed surprised and a bit confused, but otherwise fine. But Kelsey's reaction...Azarel wondered what kind of person this Devin was, and if he was dangerous. These days, jilted lovers did all sorts of horrible things to people they had once loved. If need be, he might have to protect his charge. He thought that it might be better to craft a coil sooner rather than later...
When Claire left, Azarel followed more closely this time, walking just behind her. He was still cloaked, so his footsteps made no sound and normal humans wouldn't be able to see him at all, but still he was careful to walk far enough away that they never touched. Sometimes humans were sensitive to things like that.
Claire got home after walking and checked on her mom." Hey mom how are you?" She asked."I'm good just tired. ". Her mom said. Claire went down stairs and made her mom late lunch and brought it up stairs and let her eat . Claire had told her everything that happend. Her mom was very respectful listening to her and gave her some ideas on what to do. Also told Claire to not go near Devin. She gave her mom her word that she will not. They finished talking and Claire went to her room and put in her music and rest her eyes.
As Claire lay down to rest, Azarel again wondered just who this Devin was and what kind of person he must be to evoke the reaction he did. Claire didn't seem the type to run off with people from bad crowds from what he'd seen so far--she had a good relationship with her mother, and her friend Kelsey seemed perfectly nice. So why had she gotten involved with someone apparently as bad as this Devin? Or had Devin changed since their relationship? He wondered if he should ask the Archangel about this...but then again, protecting her from a human would be easy, compared to--
The Archangel had said that Claire was believed to have been in contact with a Fallen. Could this Devin have been affected or influenced by the dark ones, or was he a mortal coil for a sinister serpent? The possibility was a frightening one...but highly unlikely, surely. Azarel sighed, and returned to watching his charge.
Claire was just hanging out. Then got a text. Kelsey texted her saying she had a surprise. Claire texted back Kelsey ok be there in couple minutes. She got up and walked to her friend Kelsey house, Kelsey walked out and gave her the surprise and Claire opened it. As Claire saw what it was she put it down immediately and hugged her friend and lightly cried for a few minutes and then pulled back." Thank you I had forgotten I had given that for you to hold. Claire picked it up and hugged it. She smiled and hugged Kelsey goodbye and headed home. Once Claire got home she sat on the steps looking at the picture frame of her mom and dad. Claires birthday was coming soon in a few weeks and this was the best present. She wasn't expecting it at all.
