A new year: The DWMA
Nocardia and Pyro
Panting only lightly, Simon had finally made it to the top of the immense amount of stairs that lead up to the DWMA. It was the first day of the new school year, and many others were passed out from fatigue on the stairs. After the countless requests from the staff, and a few from Lord Death himself, Simon finally took the request and went to study at the DWMA. His skills were steadily faltering after losing his former partner. It was a bad memory that was forever engraved in his mind, and it was only worse as it was his fault. As he got to the top of the stairs, Simon turned around to look at Death city from above, at was an amazing sight, but Simon's mind was on other things. He had little to say for the moment being and stood there in silence. He was remembering as much as he could about his partner before setting her into a coma that has seemed to last forever. He was here to look past that, move onward. his movement from the spot was stopped as he remembered a name that his partner had given him; The Hawk. He was a formidable opponent both as a weapon, and as a human. He had to learn to use himself as an autonomous weapon in his partner's absence, making him even more fierce. Slowly, his skills began to falter, his mistakes were becoming progressive more common as time went on. His body was frozen in place as he got lost in his thoughts, now thinking that he should use his nickname once more. He saw it as a way to keep moving forward, but something to remember the past, the true thing telling him to move forward.
The blonde girl placed her hands to her knees and let out deep pants. She knew that DWMA was known for being extravagant but there had to be an alternative to the hundreds of steps it took to get to the entrance doors. She looked around at the other new students that were just as tired. Well, it was fortunate to know that she wasn't the only one. One student in particular though was chuckling and saying that everyone was out of shape if they couldn't handle a measly flight of stairs, even if he was obviously sweating as well. She eyed him wearily before passing by him and "accidentally" bumping him lightly, making him fall down the stairs. He let out a yell and only caught his balance to stop tumbling midway. He yelled curses at the girl.
Cosette Mackenzie, more commonly known as Seth, just gave him the middle finger and looked away. The academy would be a mix of several personalities, she hoped there'd at least be one person she could get along with, particularly a weapon. She adjusted the tag on her right chest that showed she was a meister and looked around, eyeing everyone with the "Weapon" word scribbled on their tags. There were several students gathered, and many had begun conversing to get to know one another. She didn't need talk. She didn't need personality. All she needed was a weapon that could fight alongside her. Walking by the edge of the group, she turned to face them all and then cupped her hands around her mouth. "LISTEN UP!" When they turned to look at her, she held the meister tag by her chest. "I'm looking for a weapon that can keep up with me in a fight!" She grinned wickedly. "I know as a meister I'll be wielding you, but I don't want some weak shit that can't even fend for himself." She raised up her fists and put her right foot forward. "Who thinks they can take me?" her voice taunted.
Although he could hear the loud woman, Simon kept in his own world, away from the crowd that had a soft ambiance of voices, talking and whispering about who was willing to fight her. He only turned half way so he could get a good look at her, keeping his "weapon" tag facing away from her. "I don't think that anyone's willing to fight you. You're scaring them." Although it wasn't his style, Simon put on a smirk as he fully turned to face her. "For kicks and giggles, and the enjoyment of others; I'll take you on. And I'll keep in my human form to keep it even." He had no idea of what she was capable, but that was why he was going to fight her. An odd and unexpected show of cockiness came from Simon as he slowly stepped forward to face his opponent. His basic strategy would he to play only on the defensive so he could study his opponent's movements and actions; then would suddenly change to a harsh and quick style of attacks. He planned out his part, now all he had to do was watch hers.
When everyone was muttering among themselves, Seth clicked her tongue in irritation. A challenge was bluntly given to prove their ability and not one person stepped out at the end of her statement. She was about to yell out something again - an insult, of course - until a voice finally spoke up. It was a black haired and pale fellow, Seth narrowed her eyes lightly when she couldn't see if he was a weapon or not. She didn't want to waste her time on a rival meister. "Scared of me? Ha! If that's so, seems like I won't be getting much competition on who'll get a Death Scythe first." A few glares quickly directed at her, but she ignored it and just grinned smugly. When the speaker from earlier faced forward and revealed his weapon status, Seth quickly went back on the alert. Her grin fell and a scowl graced her face. "Kicks and giggles, you say? I suggest you take this seriously if you don't want your pretty face smashed in." The weapon seemed like a smart fellow, and those kind hardly go full throttle in the beginning of a battle. She'd had her fair share of opponents who thought wits could win in the end. Study movements and battle patterns? Think of an appropriate course of counterattack? Who needed to think when it was the rush that mattered? She ran towards him, feigning a punch before doing a little footwork to turn around him and, with his back faced to her, she made a move to tackle him to the ground.
As soon as she started moving towards him, Simon took an odd defensive stance, He crafted the stance himself. It was made for mobility, rather than just complete defense. He had faced more than enough demon souls to know how she was going to do this, and kept still for the right time. If he was a little slow or fast, there would have been a large window where she could easily put him on the ground and end this now. As he moved behind him, Simon moved his head only slightly so that he could see her. Rushing towards him, Simon decided that now was that time. Striding to the right, Simon could see his opponent pass him. He moved back into his original position just afterwards so that he was behind her now. He threw a quick punch to her back, but wasn't as strong as it could have been if she was standing still. "If you're going to want to beat me, you're going to have to think about your tactics before they blow up in your face."
Seth put her all into that single attack and almost lost her balance when her opponent suddenly moved positions. "How the fuck..." She steadied herself but as she made a move to turn around she had felt the impact on her back. She fell forward but quickly reached out her hand to grab onto the weapon's arm before he could retract it. Using it as a leverage, she turned around fully and, gripping onto him harder, she pulled herself closer and headbutted him.
Instead of feeling a sharp pain on her forehead, it was atop her head.
"Students, students~! While I do encourage friendly fights and spars, I wasn't expecting such a thing on your very first day!" Seth tilted her head up to see the headmaster of Shibusen with his two hands raised from hitting the two students that had started a fight. Her breath hitched as she saw the stupid mask and realized that it was him who had spoken in such a high-pitched and childish voice. "Oh? Have you come to like this fellow as your partner?" the death god asked as he peered at Seth's hand that was still clenching tightly onto the weapon's wrist.
She quickly let go as if she was burned and took several steps back. She was meeting Shinigami-sama in person and he was actually talking to her. The most powerful being was feet away from her and holy fuck how was she supposed to act? She quickly glanced at the boy she had been fighting seconds ago, but then turned away, not really expecting him to see her internal dilemma and help. The other students had continued with what they were doing but some decided to watch the spectacle, what with their headmaster no popping up. "I-I was just trying to see if the guy had what it takes to be my weapon," she said in a wavering voice. Was she going to get expelled for getting into a fight? She had never really been to an actual school before and hadn't a clue. If only she had known they were being watched!
"Well, he certainly seemed to have taken advantage of you for a brief moment-"
"Ha! I could've got him back easily if you hadn't butted in!" Seth froze, realizing what she had just said and who she said it to... Wait. How long had he been here, watching the new students?
Shinigami-sama clapped his hands together. "Is that so, Cosette-kun~?" He placed his arms around the two teens. "Then wouldn't you make a swell pair?... Right, Simon-kun?"
"Yes, it seems that I've found my new Meister." Simon looked up to the death god. He knew what it was like to be in his presence from past experience, and nodded to him slightly. "No matter how reckless she might be..." He muttered quietly. He saw what she was capable of, and although a little sloppy in his eyes, he couldn't make the accusation, as he was also faltering. It was the main reason that he was attending the Academy, and it couldn't hurt to see her skills grow along with his.
"Well, there you have it! You two should make a great pair. Class should be starting soon, Ta Ta everybody~!" And with that, Lord death floated away in his calm yet jolly self. The tales go back that he started talking and acting like that when he first started Shibusen, that the children were too afraid to talk to him or be near him due to his Scary presence. His comically large white hands lifted from the teen's shoulders and disappeared in the black, void like cloak that was his body.
"So." Simon started off, turning slightly to face his new possible partner. "Now that That's out of the way. I'm Hawk." He held up his hand, hoping for an agreement like handshake that would finish the deal.
Seth's jaw literally dropped when Simon had agreed to have her as his meister. She did not expect him to agree. Well, he supposed he wasn't such a bad choice for a weapon. He was the only one that had stepped up to her challenge after all. Guts was probably the main thing she'd hoped to find in a partner. But then he remarked on her recklessness. "I heard that!" she growled out. When their headmaster bid his farewell and flew off, Seth stared at his ascension. She had heard many tales and stories about him, but not one mentioned how... happy he was for someone associated with death.
At the weapon's voice, Seth turned to him with narrowed eyes. "But didn't Shinigami-sama call you Simon-" She paused when she recalled that she had been addressed with Cosette. "Uh, right. Hawk." She stared down at his hand for a moment before shaking it and grinning, squeezing it a little too hard for it to be considered a friendly introduction. "The name's Seth. Don't drag me down now, ya hear?." She turned her head slightly to check her surroundings and saw that some of their classmates were still in the process of looking for partners. "Since we still got time before class, mind letting me know what I got myself into?" She glanced at their conjoined hands and then looked up to meet Hawk's eyes. "I'd like to see your weapon form." Her tone of voice was challenging, obviously expecting him to transform into an admirable weapon. "Just a heads up, I'm more of a close combat kinda fighter. I suck at long-range weapons, so if you're one, I say we break off this partnership now." It's not that Seth couldn't learn long-range, it was just that she wouldn't. For her, only cowards fought from afar and she was anything but.
"A nickname, you might call it; And I can't drag you down, as I'm just a weapon." Smiling, Simon's body dissolved into a blue light and wrapped around Seth's arm until it formed a solid shape. He took the shape of a large gauntlet that fit well around Seth's arm. The blue and gold plating of the gauntlet shined in the sun as he finished transforming. "So, how's it handle?" Simon asked, referring to himself when speaking. He could easily see that she was a strong fighter, and was hopeful that she would handle him in his weapon form well.
Seth raised an eyebrow at his words, honestly baffled. "I figured this was a partnership we got going here. Never thought I'd hear a weapon refer to himself as 'just' a weapon for his meister." Maybe he was being sarcastic? If that was the case, he was most certainly overestimating her social skills to be able to figure that out. Her thoughts on the matter went to a standstill though as Hawk turned into a blue light and settled himself across her right arm. A huge grin spread across Seth's lips as she moved her arm in different angles to examine his weapon form. "Not bad. A little flashy, but that ain't a bad thing." She stared at a nearby wall. "Hey, what's harder? You or concrete?" she asked with an even wider grin.
Before she could test it out and slam the guy into the hard material for the heck of it, there was a sudden round up of students. Seth looked back to the crowd and saw that they were now entering the academy building. "Ah well, let's save the fun for later, yeah?" She waited for him to change into his human form before following after the crowd. They were given a brief orientation and tour of the school that Seth really didn't pay attention to. When that was over, their first class finally began. She took a seat at the very back of the room. She locked eyes with Hawk and tilted her head slightly to the free seat beside her. It wasn't that she wanted to sit next to the guy that she saved a spot for him. She just didn't want to risk the chance of sitting next to some annoying classmate. Yeah, that was definitely it. Not because he was probably the only other soul she knew among everyone. No way.
The murmurs of the class grew more and more quiet as the sounds of a screech got nearer. There was a tapping sound followed by a screech before tapping again. It got louder and louder until it finally stopped in front of the classroom door. It opened slowly and let out a loud creaking sound... Seth almost fell out of her seat when the person finally entered the room. It was a ghostly pale middle-aged man with long black hair, part of it covering one of his yellow eyes. A black cloak was the only clothing seen. He was being supported by a walker, which made those earlier sounds. It had a small stand with a blood bag that had an IV on his right arm.
It took about a full minute for him to reach the center of the classroom. "A... pleasant... morning, n-new students... The s-sun... is shining as bright as ever... this morning. How lovely-!" He coughed and wheezed for a few seconds before resuming. "I... I am Mister Drac and... I will be... the teacher of your... first subject."
