When she arrived at the hangar bay, Sarah sat on a pile of crates. "Tell me again, are the squad coming in one pelican, or are they coming in different ones?" She asked Zariana, who had decided to show herself on a nearby holopad. "I'm not sure. They might come on the same one, some might come on different ones." Zariana replied, then with a wink, she added "Should have brought a coffee." Sarah looked at the AI, then chuckled. "You know I don't like coffee." She said, as she heard a rumble of engines approaching.
James sat next to the cockpit door, staring through the cockpit's window. They were flying through a fleet, ships were everywhere. No orbital combat, as far as he could see, but that could change any minute. James saw that they were heading straight towards one ship in particular. He caught a glance of it's name; Midnight Moon. James shrugged, then turned on his laptop. He searched the database for Midnight Moon and nothing came up. Strange. James shrugged, turned off the laptop, and continued to look through the cockpit window. His pilot uniform wasn't the nicest looking thing to wear, but it was good enough. As the pelican neared the ship, he took off his helmet to get a better view. It was a corvette, and it seemed that his theory was correct. He could see that they were heading to the hangar bay of the ship.
Tom woke up by the noise of the landing, he stretched himself out on the bed. ''Did we arrive already'' Tom thought. As he stood up he walked towards the cockpit and it seemed they landed on a ship he couldn't recognize immediately. There was a woman sitting on some crates and it seemed she was talking to herself, a bit confused he walked back to his room to put on his suit and equipment, sharpening his blade one last time before putting it in its sheath. Tom made quite some noise as he jumped from the pelican onto the ground. He greeted her as he approached Sara ''Good day, I assume you are the one in charge here?'' he asked, putting on his best smile.
Ren cursed viscously as he was thrown across the empty pelican, his broken restraint leading him by a split second, only to be slammed back into his seat as the Pilot banked sharply.
“Come on Pilot what gives!”
A muffled shout came from the cockpit and Ren cursed again as the restraint slammed into his –luckily armoured- chest.
“Computer activate –“
His view brightened as his Heads-Up display loaded. He grabbed the free-falling restraint as the Pelican rolled again, throwing him along the ceiling, when he finally came to a stop he hooked the restraint into the side netting leaving it secured.
“Computer Vector Analysis-“
A series of lines and axis sprung up on his HUD representing the new path of the Pelican every time it manoeuvred, giving him a split second to react before slamming into the floor once again, he landed in a crouch and quickly pushed off towards the intact restraints lining the Pelican, seated once again he slammed the restraint down and breathed deeply
His HUD closed down and the Interior of the Pelican darkened once again, he closed his eyes and began to doze.
The rattling crash as the Pelican landed woke him, he deactivated the restraint and stretched inactive muscles, the Pelican’s main door began lowering and he walked off of the Pelican into a large hangar, Sitting on a large pile of crates was a Spartan, Standard armour configuration, Ren subdued a smile, He’d worked with Spartans before –if briefly – they kicked ass, the perfect warriors. Standing by her side was another soldier, it seemed he'd only just arrived, another Pelican, presumably the one he'd arrived in was nearby.
He made his way over to them, stood at attention and saluted, the chances of him being the superior officer were rather slim, especially with a Spartan onboard.
(( Cry, you wrote ' ''Did we arrive already'' James thought. '. I assume you meant 'Tom thought'. ))
Sarah saw someone step out of the pelican and approach her. She recognised him as Tom. She smiled and replied "Yes, I am. My name is Sarah." Sarah then turned to see a second soldier. This one she didn't recognise. Before she could open her mouth, Zariana answered her question by whispering "Ren" into her earpiece. She returned his salute.
James stepped out of the pelican and looked around. He saw another pelican sitting in the corner of the bay and a woman sitting on some crates with two men next to her. He approached them. "Hello, I'm James." He said. "Who is the commanding officer here?"
Sarah raised a hand and replied; " I am. My name is Sarah."
artyom woke up as he heard his pelican make its landing. he grabbed his bag and walked out into the hangar bay. he was still in full armor, just in case anything happened. "so this is my new team?" he asked as he came around the pelican and saw everyone grouped around the crates. he took a seat on a crate and opened up his bag to get out his rifle. he had been through alot with this thing, and was hoping he would get to use it soon. "I'm Artyom. now is this the part where whoever's in charge tells us what we're doing here? my pilot either didn't know or wasn't telling." he didn't see any normal crew members anywhere, which means they might be the only people on board.
Sarah turned to who she identified as Artyom. "I'm Sarah. I shall answer your question in a minute." She looked around. The pelicans were leaving, so this seemed to be all she was getting. For now.
Artyom, James, Tom and Ren. There was just one person missing, and Sarah knew who she was. "Zariana. Don't be shy. Introduce yourself."
A nearby holopad lit up, and Zariana appeared. She looked around then said; "Hello. I am Zariana." Sarah smiled, then said; "Well, Artyom, to answer your question, you are all here because ONI has assigned me to do 'behind enemy lines' missions. We will get messages from ONI telling us what to do. You were all selected because you had special skills that would be vital during these missions. You are free to roam around the ship and do as you please." Sarah then got up and decided she would go to the bridge. She started to walk to the bridge.
James noticed something about Sarah. Some dark, deep area of his head recognized her from somewhere, but couldn't think of where. Zariana interrupted his thoughts by asking: "Would you like me to show you where your rooms are?" The AI looked between them all, waiting for an answer. "No thanks." James said, as he started to walk towards the nearest parked pelican. He walked around it, looking at it's armament. Zariana looked between the other three, waiting for their replies.
A small hologram appeared and introduced itself as 'Zarianna'. Ren studied it minutely, he'd seen some of the prototypes and he had to suppress a shudder at the thought of what a rampant AI could do, The Spartan walked off rather suddenly as Spartans are want to do, He wondered where she was going.
The AI spoke up again offering to show them to their rooms, Ren considered for a moment before shaking his head
"I'll find it on my own, send the ship schematics to my computer could you?"
He turned to address the others, eyebrow raised behind his visor
"So what're you in for?"
Tom looked around at the other soldiers ''What a bunch of arrogant assholes'' he thought, they better perform well on the field. He looked at Sarah again, she seemed to be nice enough. She caught his interest when Sarah mentioned some thing about ''behind enemy lines'' missions. He sighed, it seems like hard times are going to come again but he liked the challenge. ''You can bring me to my room, Zariana'' Tom said. ''And you can show me the ship too if you don't mind, Nobody else then an AI knows the ship better'' He said after a little silence and gave her a wink.
Ren thought about this new team, there wasn't much to judge them by, all he'd seen was them walk across a room, Ren wasn't quite so stupid as to think any judgement based off of that was worth a damn, Ren continued musing as he waited for one of the others to reply.
The runty looking one turned and wandered off without a word, Ren snorted in amusement, some kids just had no manners.
"computer adjust visual target template #1123-"
His visor flickered and the runty looking soldier transformed into a small girl skipping down the hallway.
"computer request ship schematics from ship computer-
his hud flickered and his map updated
"computer set waypoint: room assign Ren-
a waypoint sprung up on his hud
"I'll catch you later I gotta catch some sleep"
that done he began moving towards his room.
Zariana, who was confused at how Ren knew where to sleep, looked at Tom. She nodded, then, with a smile, disappeared. She then quickly reappeared at a holopad near the exit of the hangar. "This way." She said, raising a hand to indicate the exit.
Sarah, upon arriving at the bridge, wondered if she had gotten any orders yet. Sarah sat on the command chair and tapped the screen attached to it. The screen blinked once, then brightened. She searched her way through the ship's messages, and found nothing there. Turning on her inter-ship COM, she opened a line with the ONI prowler Forgotten Faith.
She unmuted her microphone, and said; "Midnight Moon to Forgotten Faith."
Listening to the COM, Sarah heard a reply. "Midnight Moon, this is Forgotten Faith. We read you."
"Forgotten Faith, do we have any orders yet?"
"Wait one." The voice said. Sarah heard the man she was talking to talk to Forgotten Faith's AI. The voice then came back. "When you are ready, you are to head to the co-ordinates I am sending you now."
Sarah turned toward the command chair screen, and saw the co-ordinates coming in. "Roger that, Forgotten Faith, I am receiving the co-ordinates."
"Roger. See you in future. Forgotten Faith out."
Sarah smiled as she closed the line. She lay back in the command chair and looked out toward the stars.
James liked this pelican. It had a few rockets, and a machine gun, and it also seemed to be in good condition. He felt tired. He decided he would find his room. He jogged over to where Zariana was, and said; "You know what, can you show me where my room is?"
Zariana nodded. "Ok, children, follow me." She said, chuckling.
