This used to be a lively little village, a "one of everything" kind of place. It had a bustling main street and quaint homes. Until one night, the whole town seemingly fell off the map.
Two to three days after that night, it became apparent that something was wrong. Communications had ceased completley, people-mainly residents-stopped leaving town to go to their jobs or even coming out of their homes.
An initial response team was sent to investigate, but after days of no response, a second team was sent and were only able to recover a hand-held recording device, the first response team had also vanished.
These were the recordings recovered:

Arrival at destination. Right away we noticed a dismal air about the surrounding area. The coincidence of it being overcast today was rather cruel on mother nature's part. Investigation shall begin shortly.

After about an hour of searching, we've found no body yet. All buildings so far are in sound condition. No signs of any accidents or struggles. It's like everyone just... vanished...
June 14, 2014. 11:28 pm
Still nothing. Hours of searching has yielded no results. The team has elected to camp out for the night and continue in the morning. We have established sleeping arrangements in the local motel. Will resume recordings tomorrow.

Something is out there... I heard screaming. I heard it! Its footsteps woke me up! Whatever it is, it can't be human! Oh god... I don't want to die! Someone help me, someone help me...
It was obvious that something more than a "vanishing" happened here. That's why you're here. You and the rest of your team is the best we have in your lines of work. You will combine your efforts to locate the missing persons, and find out what happened.
Accepted Characters (Players)
Specialization: (Field of science/criminal justice/etc your character specializes in.)
Name: William Jacobson
Appearance: With an obviously aged face, Will looks similar to those "grizzled veteran" types. He has short, black hair which is graying in some places. And blue eyes. He has a muscular build, and usually wears a dark blue, long-sleeved shirt, and black cargo pants. On the job, he wears a kevlar vest along elbow and knee pads in addition to his clothing. He wears a khaki backpack that contains most (if not all) of his gear.
Personality: William is a no-nonsense type of guy. He's serious about his job, and will do what it takes to get it done. He can come off as cold and distant, but only because he wants to remain practical-minded about the situation. He tries not to make ties with anyone since he thinks it will only hinder his judgment. That, and because he is afraid of losing friends again, especially after everything that has happened to him.
Bio: William's childhood was nothing special, apart from a father in the military who came by very seldom. Despite the few visits, Will was close to his father. Inevitably, the man was killed in action. It was a tragedy for their family, but they managed to scrape by. William joined the military as well, following in his father's footsteps. Despite his mother's pleading. He promised her he'd stay safe. He served for several years, until a certain deployment (Which Will refuses to talk about) left his entire unit dead. He started having feelings of hate against his Commanding Officer, and eventually resigned.
Ever since then, he has joined a security consulting organization. Working as a contractor, protecting cargo and VIP's. His employers were recently contacted by a government agency, asking for extra protection for an expedition into an undisclosed location. William was sent in. His job is to make sure the expedition survives, no more no less. An easy enough job, William thinks. What he doesn't know is that this mission will test his physical and mental limits. And the survival of the group is just as uncertain as his own fate.
Specialization: As former military, and a member of a Security Group, William is skilled in the use of firearms and multiple kinds of other weapons. He knows basic survival skills, from finding food and water to making a fire. He is familiar with the tenseness of a battlefield and can keep a cool head even in tough situations. The reason he is part of the group is to ensure their safety and survival, by any means necessary. The government agency deemed protection necessary ever since they had recovered the recordings of the first team.
-UMP-45 (2 magazines) (Flashlight attachment)
-Beretta M9 (2 magazines)
-elbow and knee pads
-Swiss Army knife
-A pair of radios (to remain in contact with whoever is in charge of the group in the event of a separation)
Suggestion: The application could include the characters' equipment/inventory. Obviously, they will need certain tools to do their job, depending on their specialization :)
Noted, OP updated. Thanks!

Stroud fights a constant war with his face to be clean shaven, department regulations being what they are. He doesn't wear a full suit if he can help it, it makes him feel like a high end department store mannequin. Keep it simple, white shirt, tie, dress slacks; the entire get-up without the jacket.
Personality: Stroud's mother insists that he was a shy child, though he denies this stubbornly. His profession doesn't leave room for shyness; if you were questioning a suspect or consoling a worried spouse you couldn't afford to be awkward. If he was shy, he worked his way out of it eventually. To fellow police officers he is easygoing, to a suspect he is stern and sometimes unfair and physically intimidating, and to victims and families he is firm but reassuring. While off duty Brian tends to be lazy, sleeping in and relaxing all day, only leaving the house when coerced. He hates being called Brian by anyone but his family, and is 3 weeks into an attempt to quit smoking.
Bio: Stroud and his sisters were raised in a law enforcement inclined home; his uncle a patrol officer, his father a Homicide detective. Apparently the tradition started with his great-grandfather. After retiring, Brian's father passed away from a heart attack, not living long enough to see his son graduate from the academy. He started as a patrol officer, and after a several years he was promoted to detective. Stroud is good a his job, but not good enough for Homicide. He has no ambitions for the position in any case, planning to retire eventually. Brian is a happily married man for 3 years and normally works with a partner named Judy.
Specialization: Law Enforcement Detective, specializing in missing persons.
Glock, standard issue firearm

Field drug test kit
Name: Daniel Kendrick
Personality: Daniel is very smart, and therefore can come off as a know-it-all. Despite finding great discomfort in anything vulgar or dirty, Daniel became a forensics specialist in hopes to fix this. When it comes to doing anything that requires physical effort he tries to leave it off to others to do. Overall he is somewhat reclusive, finding difficulty in making friends and mostly keeping to himself.
Bio: Having just graduated from college with a master's degree in forensics, Daniel is a young man from a respectable household of upper class business entrepreneurs. growing up was quite easy for him, but eventually he grew tired of his sheltered life. Daniel is quite smart thanks to high-end tutoring throughout elementary school, and when he started college he was originally tasked with becoming a business major to take over the family business. He decided to take up forensics instead, looking to make something of himself instead of bring made by someone else. He hasn't spoken to his family since then.
Specialization: Forensic Sciences as applied to the field, including but not limited to: Forensic Anthropology; Forensic Dactyloscopy; Forensic Odontology; Forensic Podiatry; Blood Splatter Analysis; Ballistics Analysis.
Evidence Collection Kit
Field Drug Test Kit
Backpack including 5 days' worth of rations and 3 change of clothes
First Aid Kit
Swiss Army Knife with lock pick and glass breaker
Just so everyone knows, this roleplay is by no means action focused. With that being said, guns and other weaponry are still ok to have, but don't expect to be kicking doors down with guns blazing. This is a very dark and eerie village, full of secrets and mysteries. Charging ahead blindly will more than likely get your character killed.
Understood :). Don't worry, I had this in mind when I made my character (Why do you think he has only 2 mags for each gun? That's pretty low, and I doubt there will be ammunition in an old village). I expect to fill the role of the, fighter character who tries to protect the group, but in doing so, lowers his own chance of survival. In horror movies, the guy who's supposed to be the best in combat usually dies first :ezlol:

I have a feeling no amount of gear will fully protect us against whatever he has in store for us...
That's exactly what I was hoping for, actually. I prefer atmosphere to guns ablazin. A lot of stuff in my equipment list is just for flavor anyway, like the pepper spray and the handcuffs; I'd be surprised if I end up actually using those.
