I like this idea. If it takes off, I would be more than happy to join!
This is currently a work in progress, I am developing the ruleset myself. It is based on the d20modern and 3.5 edition rulesets.
For anyone who has not played PSO (Phantasy Star Online), it is a sci-fi/fantasy style game. Just to give you an idea of what to expect, photon blades, fireballs, spaceships, blaster rifles, etc.
At the moment, I'm just trying to see if anyone is interested in this type of game.
Intro
Coral, the homeworld. Left behind 300 years ago, mankinds lust for advancement causing it’s death. The discovery of energy that could come from literally everywhere, caused a new surge in scientific discovery the likes of which had never been seen before. Photon powered weaponry, fully sentient biological AI, genetically engineered life, even interplanetary space travel. However the greed of humanity reared it’s ugly head war broke out, it lasted for years, the ecosystems that supported the world were failing. The governments made the difficult decision to abandon Coral. Massive colony ships were dispatched all across the galaxy, to planets that could support life. Most of them arrived and colonized new worlds with few problems, others however were never heard from.
300 years later, the galaxy has been colonized, interplanetary trade has been established, war has not broken out between planets or countries in nearly 200 years. Centuries of space travel have brought about changes in humanity and their created races. Powers that have long been dormant have reawakened, “magic” has become commonplace. Though war has become an almost non-existent issue, crime is still a huge problem, even more so with an entire galaxy to hide in. Thus a mercenary force came about to deal with this problem. The Hunter’s Guild was formed as a legal extension of the government, they are volunteers from all walks of life. The most talented of swordsmen, the most accurate of snipers, and the most powerful psychics. They defend the weak, they bring the criminals to justice, they keep the galaxy safe.
However amongst the peaceful people living in the galaxy, there were some who wanted total control. Black Paper they called themselves, a group wanting total galactic domination. They use any means necessary, they operate from a near impossible to reach planet near the edge of the galaxy. They've already attacked multiple planets and are starting to attack cargo ships in the areas around them.
If anyone has any questions or anything please let me know.

My experience with Phantasy Star is mainly limited to Phantasy Star: Zero, but I absolutely loved that game so I'd be happy to give this a whirl
I might also be able to give you some advice on Gming, depending on what is giving you trouble.
You know, for someone who's obviously evil, he kinda has a point. =/

Well, going by the best and worst roleplaying experiences I've had so far, I'd say flexibility is fairly important. The feeling that the players can actually acomplish something in the story is always good.
I'd also kind of reccomend being careful about just having villains beat the tar out of the player characters, but that's more trauma speaking up than absolute reason. ^^;
Oh, and NPCs that you can interact with and have meaningful relationships with can be nice. They don't have to be everywhere or even appear all that often, but still.
On last thing: a question. Do you have a minimum amount of writing that you expect in a post? You know, at least a paragraph or two? I just wanted to ask since I hate having to put up with one liners ^^;

Thanks for the advice.
I'll keep the part about not beating players senseless in mind.
In terms of post length, I was thinking about having a requirement, I've done one liners in the rpg I'm in now, but it was mainly because I realized I had to post right before the deadline came around. XD So I might make a minimum length requirement, not sure yet.

Well, hurray for another person. ^_^
Say, I'm sorry if this is a little early, but mind if I ask what kinds of characters you all intend to make for this? I'm just curious because I have a few ideas bouncing in my head but I'd prefer to go with the one that will stick out and fit in with the rest of the group instead of just being a carbon copy of someone else's character![]()

Haven't completely finished the class/ race stats etc. yet. But in terms of races, there will be 3, human, newman(A genetically altered race, more agile and in tune with magic), and androids(biological ai, with free will etc. stronger and more durable then the others).
For classes, we'll have the standard from PSO, ranger, good with firearms and other ranged weapons. Hunter, good with melee weapons, and unarmed combat. Force, uses magic offensively. Added two more to better fit the world. A cleric type not quite sure of name yet, will use magic mainly for support and healing, will have some offensive spells. A techy type, capable of piloting ships and assorted technological tasks.
Hope that answers your question, if not ask some more. XD
