The Odds

Coley heard the man’s comment about not hurting anyone but she needed to see it with her own eyes. He grabbed her arm and didn’t fight it. If everyone else was safe she wasn’t about to cause a scene and endanger them all. As soon as the walked through the door her eyes quickly scanned the entire bank. All the customers were alive but their hands were bound as well as the other tellers. She frantically searched for her manager and saw he was also fine but tied to his chair. These guys were efficient to get everyone to obey without causing any pain. That was probably why they got away with so many of these.

Close to the front door now, she could hear the police sirens. A wave of relief washed through her. Now the guy wouldn’t need her for whatever he was planning. His only choice was to leave so he’d let her go. Her hopes were quickly murdered however when he turned to her and said this is where her part came in. Her eyebrows narrowed when he apologized for what was about to happen- that didn’t sound good at all. Whatever relief she found in hearing the police come to the rescue was completely gone.

When the man grabbed her and spun her around she let out a nervous yelp. He said she wouldn’t get hurt and that she’d be released soon. Coley couldn’t believe this was happening. Stay calm? How the hell was she supposed to that! She couldn’t stop the tears that start rolling of her cheeks but she did her best to stay calm as he pulled her outside. Coley knew exactly what he was doing: using her as a hostage. As soon as they were out in the open there was so much noise. People were yelling, the police all had guns pointed at them, the masked group of men stayed close to them, it was a nightmare. Coley locked eyes with one of the police men who were trying to tell her something but she couldn’t hear them. Too much was going on. “Please,” she said and tried to look over her shoulder at the man. “Please let me go, please.”

Slowly Aidan and the others crossed the street, keeping Coley between them and the police. "I told you that you'll be released soon." Even during the high intense scene the driver remained where he had been, just waiting for the others. One of the others carrying the money opened the side door and hopped inside, setting the money near the back doors and then moved into the passenger seat as the other accomplices made their way into the van. Aidan and Coley were the last to get inside the van and as soon as their feet were off the ground the driver floored it causing the van to spinout and take off down the road, the screeching of the tires drowning out all the sounds. "Dammit, man! Watch it how you're driving. It's not just us in here!" Aidan said as he quickly shut the door so no one would fall out. "Now just drive to the warehouse." Aidan said putting the revolver back into his pocket and letting go of Coley. "But boss what about her?" The man in the passenger seat asked nodding towards Coley. "Don't worry about her, before we get to the warehouse we'll let her out, she won't know anything about how to get there."

Coley felt like screaming when she realized the man was indeed going to take her with them. She heard him say that she’d be released soon but at this moment with the fear nearly choking her, Coley didn’t believe him. The bank security always told them to never ever leave with the robbers no matter what. Fake a faint or do something so that they didn’t waste time taking you along. All of that had gone right out through the window as soon as the man had first pulled a gun. Before she knew it the man had pulled Coley into the van and suddenly the driver accelerated. The guy barely got the door shut before they fell out. Coley sat there, trying to take up as little space as possible. Out of the corner of her eye she saw that the man had put his gun away. That little action helped. She glanced at the passenger seat where the masked man had asked about her. It seamed like the man meant it when he said they’d release her. Coley couldn’t believe this was even happening. This was not the excitement she had wished for! Quietly Coley asked, “Where are you taking me?” She quickly glanced up at the man before staring back down at the ground, trying to control her racing heart.

Aidan turned back to Coley and sat down besie her in the van. "Out of this neighborhood for starters." Aidan said as he grabbed the duffel bag that was only half filled. "After a few more blocks I'll let you out and you can go back to the bank or wherever the hell it is you wanna go." He looked out through the windshield. "Take a left at the next intersection, drive straight for three blocks, take a right and then drive for another six blocks. Once you've done that pull the van over. Once we let her out we'll get to the warehouse and split up the cash." The driver simply nodded and began to follow Aidan's instructions.

"Once we stop the van you can get out." Aidan said looking back at Coley. "I'm sure the police will have some questions for you, so I'd head straight back to the bank, afterwards you'll be allowed to go home I'm sure. In the meantime I suggest trying to calm down, I wouldn't like it if you stressed yourself to death."

“I don’t think you’d care either way,” she said quietly. Coley’s hands were fidgeting in her lap as she concentrated on taking some deep breathes to follow his suggestion anyways. He was right; she’d start hyperventilating if she didn’t calm herself down somehow. She glanced around the van but all the others seamed to be ignoring her which she was glad off. Coley still felt scared but the adrenaline that was causing her to breathe heavily was starting to subside. She just wanted the van to stop so she could get out and this nightmare would be over. Coley looked to him and looked at the dark glasses. She wandered why he hadn’t eventually put on a mask. Wasn’t he afraid she’d recognize him somehow and tell the police? She looked back down at her lap. She didn’t expect him to answer but she asked nevertheless, “Why do you do this? Rob banks?”

[Aro]

"Of course I would care, the world would be a little bit darker if someone as beautiful as you died. Sure I may rob banks for a living and be considered a dangerous man by the media and police but we never hurt anyone when we perform a heist. In fact this is the first time we've had to take a hostage, my motto when it comes to this is kill them with kindness." He couldn't help but smile when he said it. Aidan noticed that she wasn't breathing as heavily now which meant that she had calmed down at least a little, and then she asked him why he robbed banks. "I do this because it's a job that gurantees a payment. Yes most of what we get goes to our own personal accounts in the Cayman Islands, but a small percent of what we get goes back to our communities to help the people there."

Coley was taken back by the obvious compliment he put into his explanation. It made her look at him. His sunglasses hid enough away that she couldn’t see exactly how he looked. The general outline of him though was attractive. She looked away, not believe that she had even just thought that. Great, her day was turning out wonderful. Had a gun pulled on her, got taken hostage, then found herself getting swooned by her attacker. She sighed to herself. The question she asked the man actually answered. Interested, Coley looked up at him to listen. She still didn’t understand. He said they’ve never hurt anyone but that was only physically. They profited money from scaring people half to death, her being one of them. “But you scare people, a lot of people. Doesn’t that bother you?”

"I never meant to scare you." Aidan said looking at her. "All our previous heist went without a hitch because I would use a fake I.D." He paused for a moment and thought back to inside the bank when he gave Coley the I.D. He couldn't remember putting it back into his wallet. "Oh God." He took out the thin wallet from earlier and sure enough the I.D. wasn't there. "Well that's just great." He mumbled placing the wallet back into his pocket. "Yes it bothers me that I scared you today, that was not my intention and I apologize for that." He looked out the windshield again as the van was slowly coming to a stop. "This my dear seems to be your stop." He said looking back at her and smiling.

Coley wasn’t sure if she believed him entirely about all their other heists going smoothly but she wasn’t going to argue. She watched him as he fumbled with his wallet. Coley guessed that he had lost the ID he had tried to use, which meant it was probably still back at the bank. Feeling the van slowing down, Coley sighed with relief. They really were going to let her go! Then he announced it was her stop. Coley returned his smile softly, “Thank you.” She waited until the van stopped entirely before going to open the door but she paused. Coley looked over her shoulder at him and still speaking quietly asked, “What’s your name?”

Aidan opened the duffel bag he had and grabbed one of the bundle of bills when Coley asked him his name. He turned to look at her and smiled. "You find that I.D. and keep it from the police for me and I'll come back to tell you my name. That sounds like a fair deal to you?" He asked as he opened the side door and then placed the bundle he had in his hands in hers. "As payment for helping me today. I suggest you keep that hidden from the police and try and get yourself out of that neighborhood." His smile still on his face as he took of the Aviator glasses. "I'd hate it if saw you in the paper one day because you didn't get out of that specific neighborhood. And don't try and saw you're there for the job, they have branches everywhere you can easily get transferred, especially after this ordeal."
