According to Lostech, the suits had no armor value. That's the published FASA source.

Odd, I remember reading that somewhere...

Hang on...is there a combat suit variant?
There should be...OH I mixed it up...it protects against laser fire not bullets.

There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love.

I've flown across America, I've scaled fences, I've stood under windows and gone out of my way hundreds of times. I'm a hopeless romantic. There's no hope for me.

Military coolant vests were often like flak vests as well so they could stop some small arms fire.

“Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us his greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the Imperial Guard, and your doom is upon you. "

Well Star League suits had an ablative quality which dispersed laser fire.

That isn't reflected in the canon sourcebook I used that describes cooling suits; they have no armor value at all, according to that.

Usually, this shouldn't come up. I'm only making it an issue if the cockpit is damaged for some reason. If you want armor of some sort, I suggest getting a DCMS warrior suit (which is armored, but costs a lot) or sticking with a vest.

The thing is, as soon as a cooling unit takes damage, it no longer works as a cooling unit anyway, which them subjects your character to damage when the heat spikes in the cockpit.

I consider neurohelmets a good investment; my house rules are such that neurohelmets have different capabilities; as I get further in, I'll come up with a price list and capability list that is more reflective of advancement in modern fighter pilot helmets and so forth. For now, the way I see it, the clan neurohelmet's primary positive attribute is that it is light and less fatiguing to use, and that it allows the mechwarrior an advantage when they rely on their own senses, but it is not necessarily the most advanced model when it comes to target integration, because it's compact and balanced.

You guys are getting off lucky; if I decide to do a lot of work on neurohelmets and cooling systems, I'm going to jack the prices up considerably.

In terms of house rules, I'll probably be coming out with different types of cooling suits as well. But that will be down the road or when I am in the creative mood. Basically, I will keep people informed.

Incidentally, unusual background costs 4 Xp, but your character comes out at 12, so is accepted. Just let me know what you finally figure out with stripping out the machinegun and jump jets, which is a value of three tons when all added up. Personally, I'd just downgrade those ER lasers to regular mediums and add jump jets, but that's up to you. I don't think ER's are worth the added heat spike, personally.

Odd...a lot of the canon source material I have point to the League suit being effective against laser. Fine...fine...I shall buy the DCMS. As for mods, I finished them...glad to see everything checked out.

The Clan Vibrosword costs twice as much due to rarity.

I already doubled it with that in mind.

I am still working on the neurohelmets, deciding how to balance things out and so forth. I have a working draft, however, to share. No prices yet. When I roll them out, everyone will have the opportunity to retroactively acquire the technology, however, that technology will cost in the millions. It's that advanced.

Neurohelmets; multiple upgrades are upgrade cost + upgrade cost x # of upgrades.
    • Inner Sphere Neurohelmets are the least expensive to upgrade, but the performance of the upgrades is reduced as they were designed for Combat Neurohelmets and their variants; limited to two upgrades.
    • Combat Neurohelmets are hardest and most expensive to upgrade; better performance and can handle up to two upgrades.
    • Clan Neurohelmets are limited, due to their size, to a single upgrade. Same capability as the Combats, but lighter and more comfortable...but with less room to have addon modules bolted on, due to extensive miniaturization.

Advanced Tactical Suite: Balanced improvement of targeting systems, but no actual specialties. Cannot be combined with: Sniper System, Wide-vision System, Multi-Target Direct Fire, Multi-Fire Missile. Market Name: Blackwell Industries ATS

Sniper System: Increased magnification and tracking of single target, improved targeting capability allows for picking your shots. Cannot be combined with: Wide-Vision System, Multi-Target Direct Fire, Multi-Fire Missile. Market name; Defiance Sharpshooter

Multi-Target Direct Fire: Market name: Gunslinger

Multispectral; helmet mounted, multispectral display. A choice of one of the following: Ultrasonic or thermographic. Independent of the mech's systems. Kallon Industries Third Eye

Wide-vision System - Allows the pilot to simultaneously keep track of front, side and rear angles, though this system can be disorienting and crowds the pilot's vision; Cannot be Combined with: Sniper System, Multi-Target System. Market Name: Johnston Sentry

Increased Sync - A neurohelmet addition that improves the neuroreceptors and allows a pilot to be more in tune with his vehicle. Market Name: Luthien Armor Works Zen

I would probably get Increased Sync, also, if Dan and I are approved how about we go ahead and do the first match?
