I'm not even trolling.
I'm looking to have such a thing happen from a character perspective, but alas, I know not the sensations that accompany icy steel biting into hot flesh.
Anyone with experience care to give some description?

cleanly tempered? I'm not sure how much that would change it except it would probably be less painful. Depends on the situation and where your getting it. Muscle, soft tissue, tendons, whether it hits bones, vital organs. Whether by surprise or already fighting.

By cleanly tempered I mean with a non-serrated edge. The equivalent to a typical dagger. Let's say it's right to the abdomen, a few inches below the left ribs, by complete surprise.

No, not really, recovery is a bitch with puncture wounds but it can be worse. The more blunt it is the more it will hurt since it has to do more tearing than cutting. I know this from being fairly accident prone. Scalpel to leg, foot, and hand, screw hurt worse. Third degree burns I'd Imagine would be worse as well, though I've been fortunate enough to avoid one of those. Skin splitting also hurts more than getting stabbed by a knife, the if you puncture the lung in your example, from my understanding its one of the simplest yet most terrible ways to die.

Yeah but how frequent is that?
I think of most common methods of getting injured, getting stabbed is probably up there. But tbh I wouldn't know
