HMs:
Items of Importance: Antidotes to each of his pokemon’s poisons/spores that he keeps in capsules on his belt. He also has a chain attached to a bracelet on his right wrist, which has a hollow iron ball on the end. Mike places his pokeballs in the iron ball and whips the chain to release his pokemon. The iron shell protects his pokeballs from being made unable to open.
Personal Possessions: A notebook that he keeps all his notes on poison and antidote doses and the results of his experiments with his pokemon.
Personality: Mike is a mystery to most people as he keeps his emotions well hidden. Even in the heat of battle, he seems cool and collected though those that know him well can see his excitement and energy. Mike does not like to make assumptions and tries to talk to everyone with an open mind. He comes across as nice enough but rather cold at times.
Relatives: Elizabeth Hoskins (Mom)
Nicholas Hoskins (Dad)
History: Mike grew up in Sinnoh, in Castelia City. When he turned 11 his gift was the chance to get a partner pokemon from the Safari Zone and to set off on an adventure of his own. Unfortunately, he got lost in the Marsh and a wild Skorupi rescued him by leading him out of the mud. Mike played around with the Skorupi and befriended her enough that Mike voluntarily captured her. On his way out of the city he encountered a wild Crogunk whom Skorupi helped him defeat and capture. After that experience Mike set out across the region, challenging gyms and studying pokemon. He quickly discovered that his favorites were of the poison type. He studied them extensively, even training with the Berry Master to learn about berries as antidotes. He traveled to Kanto after defeating all the gym leaders of Sinnoh and catching all of the poison types there.
In Kanto he encountered both Koga and Janine, easily defeating Janine but was crushed by Koga. Koga agreed to take Mike on as a student and Mike accepted studying with him for several years before leaving to explore Johto. Koga is the one who gave Mike the idea for the chain he uses to throw his pokeballs. After defeating the Johto Gym Leaders Mike challenged Koga again and tied. Satisfied with this result Mike left on friendly terms and occasionally they still train together.
Why He deserves to be an Elite Eight: Mike is an exceptional poison trainer. He has studied the poison pokemon of Sinnoh, Kanto and Johto and knows all about their different abilities. He has also defeated 24 gym leaders and most of the Elite Four of Johto (tying with Lance and Koga).

Items of Importance: His Pokèdex, and Pokètch.
Personal Possessions: Icicle Plate, Earth Plate, Splash Plate, Zap Plate, and Spooky Plate.
Personality: Rob is friendly and very talkative. Despite the ghost trainer stereotype of lone wolves, he is likeable and charismatic. Rob is driven by a desire to know; he is curious about everything and likes ghost pokemon because they represent a portion of the world many people know next to nothing about.
Relatives: His parents died when he was 8 and his grandparents live in Celestic Town.
Emma Osborne (Paternal Grandmother)
Christopher Osborne (Paternal Grandfather)
History: Rob was born in Sinnoh and he grew up in Sandgem Town until he was 12 when he got his Drifloon and left to explore Sinnoh. His parents died in a mining accident underground when he was eight, after that he lived primarily with Rowan and his grandparents.
After becoming Rowan’s assistant at age 15 Rob traveled Sinnoh studying pokemon evolutions, and challenging gym leaders and Contest champions. When he completed the Sinnoh Pokédex Rob journeyed to Unova and studied pokemon there. He was fascinated by their ghost types and added a number of them to his team. After defeating the Elite 4 and losing to Alder, Rob fell out of contact with his friends and family. He went to Hoenn and spent several years training in isolation and studying pokemon unique to the region. He also became well known for his contest skills though he entered under a fake name to avoid those who knew him from Sinnoh and Unova. After successfully defeating Wallace as champion, Rob decided to enter the Elite Eight tournament because he feels ready for the challenge. He thinks of it as the last step in his training before he has a rematch with Alder.
Why He deserves to be an Elite Eight: Rob has been recognized throughout the regions as an expert pokemon researcher. He is also at the level
Other: His Froslass was a gift from Prof. Rowan, though then it was a Snorunt, for becoming his assistant.
Edit: I agree completely that the Manga is much better. Though I prefer Crystal to Red. Also what's the point of listing HMs if we aren't going to be navigating?
