Appearance: Kato is 74" tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has dark skin and a thin black mustache. He keeps his black kinky-curly hair short as he does not care for long hair. His hands and feet are calloused from hard work and his sinews reflect the same. As a soldier of the Republic, Kato has participated in many foot marches, which has left his feet in this state. He feels no pain on the feet due to this conditioning; the same with the palms of his hands.
Kai wears a black body suit under his Republic issued uniform of white and green armor. As a Combat Engineer, Kai Okoye carries an ion disruptor as well as a Blaster Rifle. The rifle is slung on his back and the ion disruptor is used for incapacitating droids. Unfortunately, the range of the ion disruptor is short. At his waist, he carries both a Vibro-dagger and a Vibrosword. Kai carries a bag in a satchel at his waist containing various explosives. Unless he is on a specific operation requiring him to carry explosives, the satchel is empty. Another satchel at his waist contains an engineering tool kit.
Skills/Abilities:
- Demolitions expert. Kai Akoye is considered an expert in the use of all explosives and detonation devices. He knows how to both set and disarm any rig in the galaxy. He has served in the Republic Army as a Combat Engineer, specializing in explosives for the past 10 years.
- Expert with a Blaster Rifle, Kai has qualified expert with the Blaster Rifle repeatedly for the past six years.
- Competent with the Vibrosword, Kai employs a Strong aggressive style of combat when using this blade.
- Firm grasp of engineering physics and dynamics of structures based on construction. Kai can visually inspect a building and know structurally where its weak and strong points are located.
- Kai loves to use his fists if given the chance. He is an amateur boxer; an excellent pugilist.

Personality:
Kai Okoye is a professional soldier with plenty of confidence. He has a strong command voice and is very authoritative. Some would say he is grounded in common sense. As a professional NCO, Kai will do exactly as he is instructed by his superiors. If he feels that a superior's decision is improper, he will command subordinates to follow the instructions of the superior regardless of his own personal feelings. When time warrants, he may pull the superior aside and explain why the superior's decision is firmly grounded in stupidity. But that counseling session will be one on one in private so as to not undermine the sheen of authority between the superior officer and the subordinates.
History: Kai grew up in a city named Tamarin about sixty kilometers south of the Capital, Amma. His father Rouen, was a ship builder as were Kai's uncles and cousins. Kai has an older brother, Po and a younger sister Nga. Although Kai respected the work that his family performed, he knew there was something else out there for him. He knew it did not involve constructing large space traveling ships, but blowing stuff up.
From the first time, young Kai saw an explosion until the last, he has always received an adrenaline rush that fills him with euphoria. It is such a thrill for Kai to blow something up. Fortunately, for those who work with Sergeant Okoye, he is also very disciplined.
His father insured discipline in all three of his children insuring they lived by rules in the family's abode as well as forcing them to ardent study. He wanted his children to make the most of their lives and felt that a decent education was the first step toward improving one's future.
Kai excelled in Mathematics and Science; leaving the humanities behind him. He was not bright enough to attend an institution of higher learning and somehow felt a pull toward the Republic Army. Since he has had the desire to blow stuff up since he was a small child, Combat Engineering was the path for him to follow.
Military History:
Kai enlisted at age 17 and received Basic Combat Instruction as well as Advanced Individual Training in Combat Engineering. He served his first four years in a Combat Engineering Battalion which supported an Heavy Assault Infantry Brigade. During breaching operations, the Combat Engineers went in first to create lanes in obstacle fields in order to make it easier for the Infantry to pass through. Breaching a minefield is a difficult task even for the best trained warriors. Kai always felt comfortable under high stress situations.
After his first four years, Corporal Okoye attended the Army Special Forces training school. He was assigned to a Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Special Operations Group (IRSOG) operating aboard a Navy warship which provides specialized capabilities on hostile planets during the Mandalorian wars. The Combat Engineer in the Special Forces Squad provides demolitions and disposal of ordnance skills as well as assessing the structural integrity of buildings. Where's the best place to set a charge and blow a building up.
Kai Okoye took to his new posting in the Special Forces enthusiastically. He took his job seriously and had little respect for the officers appointed over him. As a professional NCO, he quickly learned that the officers really didn't know what they were talking about, but he also knew that he had to do what they said if he wanted to keep his job. He eventually learned from his mentor that it was OK to teach a young Lieutenant a thing or two if it meant keeping your squad alive. His mentor is his current commander, Captain Orellus.
While most of the Republic officers failed to place themselves in harm's way, one such officer joined his enlisted subordinates in combat operations. His name is Captain Khyber Orellus. The fact, that Captain Orellus was willing to be shot at, meant that he was a true warrior like Kai and his brothers in IRSOG 37. Kai Okoye was promoted to Sergeant, just prior to his assignment to IRSOG 37. Sergeant Okoye has spent the past two years with Captain Orellus in IRSOG 37. They have seen a lot of action and lost many comrades to the Mandalorians.
Sergeant Okoye has adopted many of Captain Orellus' views and opinions especially those concerning the Jedis. He views the Jedi as more of a hindrance than help. Sure they are skilled soldiers, but they know very little of small unit tactics let alone Battalion or Brigade operations. Sergeant Okoye views the Jedis in the same light as he perceives most Army officers; useless. Obviously there is one exception.
Relationships and Acquaintances:
Sergeant Okoye has spent the last two years with Captain Orellus in IRSOG 37 and respects the man dearly. He would take a shot for him if he had to. Kai is devoutly loyal to his commanding officer.
Sergeant Okoye has been workign with LeTan Solus for the past year and remains unsure of the young man with dread locks. He is aware of his past, but the younger soldier remains somewhat aloof, not letting others get in. This behavior places LeTan suspicious in the older Sergeant's eyes. Kai respects LeTan for his abilities and holds him in high esteem for that. He feels comfortable relying on him to get a job done, but the jury is still out on LeTan due to his untrusting ways.
All Jedis are pompous, arrogant bastards who have no reason being near a front line combat unit such as ISROG 37. The Republic is seriously desperate if they are allowing these spoiled brats around.
