Well the gods and demons do not have to exist, but she believes in them. Or is the concept of religion unknown in the world?
We can ignore the magic part as you clearly said that it is very rare. Therefore it was optional. Still she was raised by these principles and would follow them. The basic idea is less that she is an actual shapeshifter, but to underline that she comes from a barbaric tribe with a different philosphy.

No, Leskari is a minor goddess of her tribe. She follows Leskari's path as the story of the deity is very similar to her own.

Personality:
Adam is a caring but battle hardened man. He stands up for people who don't have the power to speak or act. He cares for the rebels deeply and does his best to keep their morale and happiness levels high. He longs to see the kingdom under the princes rule, and hopes that one day Azerlie will return to the glorious city it once was. Out of battle he is warming and talkative, but in battle his personality changes to that of a fierce, cool and calculated individual. If somebody saw him in battle and then sitting round the campfire next, they wouldn't believe it was the same person.
Skills and weapons:
Adam knew how to handle a sword and shield until he injured himself in battle, forcing him to use a cane when walking long distances. Instead of opting out of combat all together, he decided he would take up a crossbow, to still provide support, even though at range. He isn't very good at sneaking about, infiltrating and remain undetected (it isn't in his nature), but what he lacks for in that he makes up for in his skills at attack planning and surviving in the wilderness. When planning he likes to use his avanatages. For example, he would use his skills in combat to make a disturbance to attract the guards, the result allowing a more sneak-efficient person to pass undetected.
His weapons consist of a ornate crossbow, engraved with writings of a foreign tongue. For ammo he uses iron bolts, with a gladius sheathed on his belt in case is forced to fight up close and personal.
Other: Walks with a slight limp, he is the only person who knows that Nina isn't human.
Appearance:
Adam is 6"1 tall. He isn't very muscular, but toned to say the least. His hair is a dirty blonde color, of which he keeps cut short and neat. His eyes are sparkling blue. Although he is reasonably young, his eyes look old and wise, as though they have seen a thousand years pass by. He used to arm himself with plate armor but after his injury, he now sticks to using leather armor, allowing him to move freely and use his crossbow to it's full potential. His main armor consists of brown leather vambraces, black leather boots, brown leather shoulder guards and black studded gloves. He also wears loose fitting, grey cloth pants and a long sleeved green top. For added protection, when in combat he wears sleeveless leather chest armor, allowing his arms full mobility but still protecting his vital organs. He also has a belt with numerous small pouches on that he keeps useful items in, also sheathing his gladius on to it. When not fighting he keeps his crossbow strapped across his back, along side his quiver. He also uses a horse when traveling long distances. He used to ride it in to battle when he was a mercenary, but now he just uses it for traveling. It is a dark chestnut color and is called Archer.
History:
Adam grew up in Azerlie, his farther a blacksmith and his mother a housewife. He lived well, his farther wanting him to follow in to the family business, although Adam wasn't interested in being a blacksmith. He was recruited in to a traveling group of mercenaries, where he learned to perfect his combat skills. He traveled for a long while, and when he eventually returned he found his home city in despair, under the evil tyrant. He then joined the rebellion and was made leader by Nina, who gave him the information he needed to launch attacks on Maverick. One day he was injured in battle by the kings brother himself. After a long battle, Adam finally reached him, and as they fought, Adam let his emotions get the better of him. Instead of planning his attack, Adam let out his anger and his rage clouded his judgment, which lead to the tyrant being able to disarm him. Maverick stabbed him in the back of the leg, tearing his muscle. Adam only survived because of a few more rebels came to his aid, retreating back to the hidden cave, where he was nursed back to health. His wound healed, although the strength in his leg never returned. He couldn't get in to his fighting stance properly, and realized he couldn't wouldn't be able to fight with a sword and shield again. He now fights from a distance, using a crossbow to take his enemy's down from a far.
