Buso Renkin: The Currupted Kakugane

Backstory

Since the beginning of time, man has been constantly evolving. Whether it be through biological means, or simple technological innovation. Since the Homo Sapiens, we have advanced further and further in the technological tree. Eventually, during the times of knights in shining armor and crusades of great conquest, the precursor to modern science eventually revealed itself. Alchemy. It was the dream of fools. Converting rocks into gold and giving birth to the 'water of life.' It was written off as folly and failure, never to be heard from again. Today, it is still recognized as an art without any success.

However, alchemy was not a total failure. In fact, two great successes were given birth to by the 'art of the devil.' A devil's art it was, for the only things that alchemy brang was the means to destroy all life on the planet. The first, and most horrible success, was the homunculi. It was humanity's first stab at gene splicing, and it was disastrous. They created beasts, hungry for human flesh. It didn't seem they could be stopped, until the second alchemic success was created. The Kakugane. It came about when early alchemic scientists were plotting the development of super-advanced weaponry. These 'miracle alloys' allowed humans to combat the homunculi using special tools created from the very essence of alchemy, just as the monsters themselves had.

Today, this age old battle still rages on in modern times. The homunculi have not been extinguished, and still roam among us in plain sight. They are kept in check by what is now know as the Alchemist Army, a massive organization that is unknown to all but the members themselves. They work behind the scenes, covering up incidents of 'unexplained genocides' and working to keep the existence of the homunculus species secret. There are hotspots of 'supernatural phenomena' caused by these creatures all over the world. However another threat is soon to arise to threaten both sides know as the corrupted... Being wielding the power of truly evil Kakugane's that have changed them both body and mind into something that has never been seen before... It is up to you and the others to stop this threat!

Unique Plot Elements

Kakugane/Buso Renkin: Kakugane are hexagonal shaped pieces of metal forged by concentrating alchemic materials. They themselves are extremely sturdy, harder than every mineral under diamonds. The usage for Kakugane is awakening the user's combat instinct. Unlike animals and plants, which rely on biological defense mechanisms, human beings are the only species to naturally reach for tools and weapons to defend themselves. Thus, they remain the only ones able to awaken the Kakugane's potential, outside of humanoid homunculi (explained later.) Once released, a Kakugane becomes a weapon that reflects upon the user's personality or combat style. The weapon is based upon regular weapons (spears, guns, swords, etc.), with a special property unique to each Buso Renkin (the official name for these weapons.) These properties are what make the Buso Renkin superior to ordinary weapons, enabling users to do things like fire unlimited ammunition or creating fire out of nothing. Kakugane are the only way to harm a homunculus.

Homunculi: Homunculi were originally human beings. By splicing the DNA of animals and plantlife, scientists were able to create hundreds of artificial fetuses from various species. These fetuses cannot survive for longer than a day outside their tube. However, they can move on their own, and once let out they will seek out the nearest human being. Once attached to a human host, the fetus will take over the person's brain. Their bodies will be converted into a homunculus; their bodies will morph into new forms similar to the plant or animal that the fetus's DNA contained while retaining their human essence, such as giant killer flowers with talking mouths or massive gorillas with human faces. The human's mind is also destroyed, taken over by the Homunculus. Homunculi can also hide their nature by concentrating their bodies into their original human shapes, thus allowing them to disguise themselves amongst us. Homunculi are the nearest thing to immortality achieved. They live indefinitely until killed, and can only be killed by Buso Renkin, as they also regenerate any damage caused to them. The only other way is to starve them, and that is nearly impossible because while their main diet is human flesh (to stay strong), they can survive on animal and plant diets just like human beings. Homunculi can speak, and retain the memories from their former lives if their species was capable of it (a monkey homunculus for example.)

Humanoid Homunculi: The most powerful homunculi are those whose fetuses were created from human DNA. By taking a person's DNA, splicing it into an alchemic fetus, and re-inserting it into their brains, the new homunculus will retain their human form without transforming. Not only that, but because the fetus was created from the host's DNA, the person's mind is not killed. Humanoid homunculi eat the same way as regular ones, but they are by far stronger and faster. They can also use Kakugane if they can steal one, as their human nature allows them to awaken their Buso Renkin.

Main Factions


The Alchemist Army

The Alchemist Army is a world-wide organization created to combat the growing spread of Homunculi. They number in the thousands, and are unknown to any government. They disguise themselves with domestic professions such as doctors or teachers in order to blend into environments where Homunculi are most likely to strike, and quarantine any threats that the monsters bring about. In the cases of genocide caused by Homunculi, it is always the AA on the scene first, containing media breakouts and controlling the flow of information to keep Homunculi a secret. Alchemist warriors can be anyone, from former soldiers to high school students. They must simply have the potential, and be willing to forsake their former lives in exchange for a new one. However, recruitment is not 'sign up and walk in.' You don't seek out the Alchemist Army, because nobody knows of them. They find you.

The ranking system of the AA is pretty basic. There if the Head Warrior Chief, who leads all operations of the organization and intervenes only when the need is the greatest. He is the strongest warrior. Then, there are the three warrior chiefs. They are the second in commands that lead the more important ground missions and aid the Head in directing troop movements. Under them are the regular Warriors, who have proven themselves ready to be removed from training and thrown into real battle. Recruits are the lowest, as their experiences in combat are regulated by the organization in order to build their skills and constitution. *Just a note that the rank you hold has little to do with your power. You may be new but gifted as well as a old timer*

The L.X.E

Humanoid homunculi are a rarity. They require massive amounts of genetic research, and even then only a select few scientists have succeeded in creating one, usually themselves out of desire for power. This means their numbers are ultimately few. Due to their scarcity, the humanoids have banded together recently to form a group called the League of Extraordinary Elects. They work behind the scenes much like the Alchemist Army. Their goal is to stockpile power through the capture of Kakugane, and then swell their numbers in order to take over the entire planet. They are a small, but deadly group, and are the biggest threat to the AA so far. Due to being comprised mainly of alchemic researchers, they also know how to create homunculi grunts to do their dirty work.

Rules (if you're new and haven't read any)

1. No godmodding. This means no over-powered characters or abilities, and no destroying entire armies of homunculi single handedly.

2. No character controlling without permission.

3. Swearing is fine, but don't use the word 'fuck' in every other fucking sentence. That's kind of lame.

5. Auto-killing of players is unacceptable. I don't care how you decide the outcome of fights, but auto-killing is only allowed for the occasional NPC fight. I want combat to have detail, and I want you to fight fairly.

6. Content above R ratings is acceptable to me, but you must abide by the basic forum rules.

7. Be friendly, or, at the least, tolerant of others. If you have a problem with someone's words or actions, tell me or just report them if it's justified.

8. Any rules that I may have forgotten still apply and will be added accordingly.

Born with a silver spoon in his foul mouth, Jack has never lead a normal life. Often he turns a simple thing in to a over the top event. Very eccentric and overly hiper at times. Loves doing crazy and weard things for attention. Hates being bored and loves to sexually harass women, especially if it will anger a man. Money, power, women, his bread and butter. Being one of the biggest sponsors of the AA, they often turn a blind eye to his scandalous behavior. Jack often throws big banquets for the AA higher ups and strongest members. Surrounds himself only with the most expensive of everything, that goes double for art. That is Jack's life to the public. He is secretly part of the AA. Only the warrior chiefs know about it. Worried that his identity my cause an uproar, the head warrior chief demanded that this should be kept a secret. Thinking it would be more fun this way Jack agreed. Being ranked as special recruit he answers directly and only to the chiefs and is send one special missions. That naturaly creates friction between "the ass kissing teacher's pet" and other warriors. When working, Jack is only known by his Alias and the AA has no other files with information on him. His mission reports usually end in similar ways: Excesive use of force, needless showboating, inappropriate behavior... but objectives were completed with little trouble and little room for error.

:Appearance: Has no "real" shape. The user fits the brush to his needs.

:Buso Renkin Abilities:

Painter's whim: No matter what shape it takes or how it is used, the blade itself can not cut or pierce, it simply goes through other objects when it's special ability is activated.

Endless Canvas: The chosen weapon shines in a deep purple light, "marking" everything it rips through, be it air or object. The markings vanish after 60 seconds or if they are somehow distorted. Only the user can manipulate the marks. The only thing that can block the blade in this form is another Buso Renkin. ( Example: A vase is marked. If the object brakes to pieces after it was marked, the markings disappear. )

The painter's nightmare: Relying on a quick draw and imagination, the user can turn his marks into complicated shapes and objects. They materialize but have a fixed weight and dencity no matter what shape they take. Light and easy to brake with a span of 30 seconds before they disapear.

Shattering dreams: With a gesture from the user ( snap of the fingers, clap of hands or something more extravagant ) all the markings detonate. Although not very powerfull, well placed detonations can be extremely deadly in any situation.

Nikolai Havenier, but by now, he’s had so many identities that even he’s not sure which one is his real one.
:Gender:
After screwing around with his own body for a stupidly long amount of time, he doesn’t even remember his own face. How would he know his own gender? Due to how, presently, his favorite forms have a male to female ratio that favors the males, he’s generally accepted as such.

:Age:
Lost in the records. All traces of his records file in the organization’s database was deleted one day. Currently ‘accepted’ as a teenager or young adult, due to how it’s the presumed age of his newest appearance.

:Appearance:
Known most often as Nikolai Havenier, the ability to freely shapeshift has allowed him the freedom to gain multiple appearances. While the majority of his ‘facebook’ is comprised of minor identities, he also has five main appearances and personalities that he uses often, regardless of whether it is for combat situations or his everyday life.

:Personality:
Nikolai Havenier is strange at best, and disturbing at worst. No one knows what he or she really is, as his personality seems to change with every new form he takes. Andronoygmous and anonymous. That’s what Nikolai uses when forced to say a few words about himself. Most of the time, in his Nikolai persona, this person acts as a rather drifty person. Not a person you can trust with your back, Nikolai, while not a heartless backstabber, does things only when he wants to. Threats against Nikolai are easily ignored, because his power makes him impervious to assassinations. He’s almost disgustingly relaxed, never feeling the urgency of a situation, always just moving along. He speaks in a lilting tone, and has a small smile on his lips at all times. He also seems to lack a conscience, with no trouble using others as baits or decoys, just so he can kill a homunculus. But even his standing as an Alchemy Warrior is strange. Sometimes he wouldn’t kill and sometimes he would. His fighting ability depends highly on whether he wants to or not. Would he toy with the monster, or would he gore it? Nikolai’s fighting style is nonexistant, with so much variables changing that Nikolai doesn’t even understand it himself. He’s spontaneous on the battlefield, and his weirdness exceeds many. The Alchemy Warrior has no fear of death and is reckless beyond stupidity, always doing things solo because he hates, loves, and doesn’t care about others.

Random, spontaneous, fearless. If you could sum up the personality Nikolai, that would be it.

There is no proof that he is a human, but at the same time, there is no proof DISPROVING that he is a human. Thus, he is generally regarded as such. The only time he ate human flesh, after all, was because he thought that it might have tasted good.

:Faction:
Technically, he should be a full-time Alchemy Warrior. But considering his erratic nature, it’s best to treat him as a freelancer, who would walk away if the mission is too dull or one-sided. Excessive force, after all, just doesn’t lead to any heart-pumping battles!

He’s not a trustworthy person, and is thus only another boring Alchemy Warrior with no real rank. But that’s alright! Less is more!

:Appearance: Persona Masquerade isn’t some stupid, boring Busou Renkin with a fixed shape! It won’t even sink low enough to become a multi-form weapon! Nope, Nikolai’s treasured Busou Renkin becomes part of him! And where bodily mechanics and alchemy intersects, his brilliance shines!

:Buso Renkin Abilities:
Nikolai is Mr. Painkiller, because his Busou Renkin allows him to freely modify his body into the form of any crazy human/humanoid that he wants! Yep, you know what that means! With Persona Masquerade, he spreads his Busou Renkin through every molecule in his body, and reshapes it! And you know the best thing about it? Nikolai’s the masochist that won’t take painkillers while his body is changing from inside out! Not that anything short of a coma-inducing pill will be able to stave off the pain of a simple body transformation! Of course, as long as he only focuses on making himself into a different boring human, it’ll take, at most, thirty seconds of his busy life! Of course, if he wanted to be the wet dream of any Starcraft 2 nerd, there’s always the choice of turning into the Queen of Blades, or into some Protoss Zealot chick! Sadly, the crazier his humanoid transformations are, the longer they take, and the more pain he goes through! Congratulations, you win the bonus prize of body-ripping, mind-twisting pain! Luckily, after the magical transformation, if he deactivated Persona Masquerade, he’ll stay in that form until it’s time to change again! His body just won’t be Kakugane-enhanced and thus have little effect on beating up homunculus, disregarding how badass the weapons of Sarah Kerrigan are.

And if he was really feeling like a mega douche-bag sadist that day? Why not inject his Busou Renkin in someone else’s body, and TORTURE THEM WITH BODY-SHIFTING PAIN FROM INSIDE OUT, BEFORE BRINGING THEM INTO SUCH A DISGUSTING DISTURBED FORM THAT EVERYONE WILL VOMIT WHENTHEY SEE YOU?!? Yay, you hit the Havenier Jackpot! One permanent cosmetic surgery to make you look worse than the people you see in horrors. After they get brutally massacred, of course~!
