[Reloaded Legends]

The Legend

One-thousand years ago, the world of Terranuovo was a simple and relatively peaceful place. The umani-as the humans of this world are called- were experiencing a time similar to our medieval period, but lacking religion they found an increased rate of advancement in technological and scientific areas. The discovery of electricity occurred then, long before that of gunpowder, but its discovery had consequences. Many stories give different explanations for what exactly happened and why, but a tear in the barrier between the world of Terranuovo and another realm was created. This other world, which the Umano came to call "Malignità", was a strange plane of existence where negative energy seemed to be stored and built-up for so long that it had somehow evolved. Horrific creatures formed out of this energy, and upon entry into Terranuovo began to do the only thing they knew how to do.
That was the beginning of the great Demon War. The Umani fought with all they had, but in the end were no match for the Malignità. That is... until the stories began to spread. In different parts of the world, stories were told of great heroes who despite tremendous odds against powerful, horrible creatures, were unrivaled in battle and managed to hold-off and destroy hundreds of these demons. A group that had formed as an alliance of all the Umani nations, calling themselves The Religion, set out to find and unite these legendary warriors. These warriors became known as Paladins- showing extraordinary strength, speed, intelligence, and magical talents- lead the armies of the Umani and fought back the demon menace.

History

The Religion became the ruling power of the world, uniting all the nations and city-states under one governing council. They created a code of morals and guidelines, and distributed them across the world in copies of large books. These books also came to contain collections of prayers and songs in celebration of the heroes who fought to save the Umani, and remembrance of the hundreds of thousands who were lost. Many who lived through the war, and some who were saved personally by- or fought alongside the Paladins, devoted their lives to spreading the world of The Code. They became known as Priests, and as they grew older they would teach anyone who was willing to learn to continue spreading The Code. As they spread, the older Priests could no longer afford to spend as much time preaching, and dedicated themselves entirely to training and teaching other Priests. They were called Cardinals. Cardinals became widely respected figures, and were turned-to in times of suffering for guidance. Eventually Cardinals began taking positions in the governing council of The Religion, and as centuries passed the council was soon comprised only of Cardinals. Governors and Mayors of small towns and cities still represented themselves in the council, but were considered less important and in the end the decisions of the Cardinals was final.

Now...

A millennium has passed since the Demon War, and time has eroded all that were learned from that era until no longer recognizable as it once was, just as waves crashing against the side of a mountain. The split between the rich and poor has grown much wider, and as a result the average education and intelligence of the majority has dropped. A slang term or mispronunciation for the people has over time become the standard, and they now call themselves 'Humans'.
The Religion still spreads the word of The Code, but its teachings are no longer a reminder of living a just and good life. The reason for them has been forgotten, and those who still go to the churches aren't sure why they do so, other than that it's what they've always known they were supposed to do. Governors and Mayors who wish to have say in the governing council have resorted to bribery, and wealthy citizens have done so as well, keeping the money flowing among the rich. The Cardinals suffered much of the same fate, as the teachings were passed-down over the centuries, those willing to learn of their own accord diminished and Cardinals began forcing the teachings and duty upon their children. Growing spiteful of this life thrust upon them, the focus of The Religion became less and less about spreading The Code, and more about abusing the power and control they had. They felt entitled to do as they pleased after they had been put through a life growing up of being forced into a world they had no interest in.

The Story Begins

An old, wise mage awoke suddenly from a nightmare. In his small village of trainee mages and their families he was regarded as a leader of sorts, and when he spoke- people listened. Nothing could prepare them, however, for when he burst forth from his home at the stroke of midnight- the beginning of the new millennium- and exclaimed loudly in a voice filled with terror: "The Malignità have returned!"

The Legends

Name: Angela "Angel" Dust
Nicknames: "Black Riding Hood" "The Midnight Talon" "The Huntress"

Age: 26

Class: Slayer

Bio: Angela was born an orphan, with no father and a mother who died during birthing. After being moved between orphanages and foster homes for some time she became sick of having no real home and ran away. She spent her teenage years in and out of the cities to do odd jobs for money to buy equipment, but she has spent most of her time in the forests and deserts. The less-populated areas call to her for some reason, she's always found it easier to be alone. While she has difficulty relating to other people, even though her physical appearance causes many men to want to 'relate' to her, she still maintains a strong sense of morality and will go out of her way to help others. She feels especially strongly about people who exploit or attack those weaker than them for their own personal gain or even worse: amusement.

Appearance: Angela stands around 5'7", though the heels on her boots put her up several more inches. Her light blonde hair and blue eyes make her stand out a bit when she's in the wilderness, but her natural tan seems to stay with her even when she hasn't spent much time outside.


Ranged Weapon: Though she has gone through the use of many different weapons, her favorite and one she maintains is a massive .357 Magnum revolver known only as "The Hunter". Whether it was custom-built from scratch or heavily modified based on another design is unknown, as it no longer resembles anything on the market.


Melee Weapon: Angel also carries this single-edged short sword on her back. While she is often seen wielding the sword in one hand with her pistol in the other, the hilt is long enough that she can grip it with two hands for added leverage and cutting power.

Name: Lazarus Keenan

Age: 34

Class: Mage

Bio: Lazarus is a normal man who, growing up, always wished something out of the ordinary happened to him. He wasn't a hero, his parents weren't important nor his family held some kind of power. He was just an ordinary guy. At an early age he started learning the art of magic along with his older brother Blaise. They separated about 10 years ago when Blaise left, looking for "adventure" and something new in this world. Lazarus wanted to leave too, but he married and has two children, which he must take care of. Still, he keeps hoping that one day he'll be able to have his own adventure.

He continues to train with his master. He's in charge of teaching the younger pupils basic magic.

Ranged Weapon: He has a silver flintlock blunderbuss with a black handle, loaded with magic charged lead balls. He can use fire and air magic.

Magic: He can use healing magic.

Name: Quetzal

Age: 49

Class: Adept

Bio: Being a hunter for his family as a teenager, he spent most of his time using ranged weapons rather than studying more about his magical capabilities. With the time his magical abilities molded into a lesser branch of body enhancing magic, consisting in pain tolerance, stamina and sleight of hand. After his parents died of natural causes, his sister was the only one left of his direct family. After hearing the rumors from travelers about beings coming from another plane, he decided to do something useful for other people (other than his family) wanting to feel fulfilled in life. His sister wanted to go with him, but in the middle of the travel she wanted to settle down and learn more about illusion magic. When they parted ways, Quetzal continued the trek to wherever he was needed, as a guard, a courier, messenger, or anything that helped the people out of harms way.
Quetzal was always a lawful neutral person. He always tries not to kill, but to incapacitate. Of course, it's not the same for demons.
In a small town focused in mages and education, he was told what the meaning behind his unusual name may be, the green bird Quetzal, or Quetzacoatl, a mayan god that had the image of a feathered snake.
Instead of studying magic, he studied mechanical things in his free time. He also became ambidiextrous.

Appearance:He has a raspy and serious sounding voice. Quetzal has a square jaw, slit eyes, his left eye is a dark brown color, while his right one is a grayish tone. He has short messy hair with a receding hairline. His face is populated by stubble , with more concentration around his mouth forming a slight goatee and a slight concave shape on his cheeks. His body is fit enough, but not buff enough. A tall stature and rough hands wrapped in dirty bandages. He wears a light brown jacket with a patch on the top of the right sleeve that reads 'Ante Mortem' around a light blue cross. Below the jacket there's a small light plate armor.
His pants are old, washed out dark gray looking pants, with two ammo belts around it. Each with 20 bullets, one with a red piece of cloth strapped on it.
Quetzal's boots are made of dark green crocodile skin. Quetzal is missing his left pinky finger and a part of his right ear in the shape of a slash, along with having small fading scars here and there in his body.

Ranged Weapon:
A single action army with a fixed cylinder loading. It has 3 notches on the side of the handle.
Melee Weapon: His fists. He suffers of a slight carpal tunnel on his left hand though.
Magic: Capable of numbing down his nerves with magic so he doesn't feel as much pain. He can also make his hands a bit more nimble, helping his shooting and reloading speed. Their effects are not as strong as someone has studied magic all of their life, they are probably a 35% of what a real mage or slayer could do.

Name: 'Preacher'
Age: 30's
Side: Magic slinger: Gun has 2 regenerating bullets, 1 silver 1 cold iron. When he holds the gun he is imbued with the power to speak with the dead. As a priest he has the power to turn evil creatures and the undead.

Bio:
Son of a gunsmith and a medicine woman, he learned at the hands of both his parents on how to love the land and how to know a trade of the people. His father saved up and had him sent to missionary school to become a priest. There he fell in love with a medicine woman, like his mother, who was learning the white man magic and words to act as translator for her people. They were wed before he took his priestly vows and all was to be bright and well. Things never go well.
One thanksgiving night a bunch of riders in all white robes came upon their home and burned the house down with the residents inside as punishment for their mixed blood. His wife was killed in the fire, his father died the next day from grevious wounds, his mother lasted little more than a week with their unborn child in her womb. Overcome with grief he began to sift through the remnants of the house, gathering all the metal from of the home and his wifes remains. He crafted a new gun from the houses iron and used her ashes for the carbon in making the steel. He gilded the frame with his parents flatware and set his wedding ring upon the barrel. Till death do they part and he isn't dead yet.

Name: Deimos Rakesh
Age: 35
Class: Mage
Bio: At age four he played his first game of poker. At age six he started learning magic tricks. At age ten he started making money off of his tricks. At age fourteen he started playing for big money. At age twenty one, he lost a game, and started learning magic. For the next ten years he trained under his master, learning about the cosmic flow of the universe and understanding that the greatest things in life are things that can’t be seen, like luck and chance. Deimos seemed to take to magic in an uncanny way, succeeding on spells with his first try. His master often called it beginner’s luck.

Years have passed and Deimos continues to study, even though his master passed away of natural causes. Because a back firing spell naturally kills a mage. For now he lives in a city, and holds no real job. While normal humans go about their everyday life, Deimos chooses to live in the underworld of mystical and magical occurrences. Often he ends up on the wrong end of a deal, but as luck would have it, he makes it out alive, luck and skill that is.

Magic: The deck of cards that Deimos keeps on him at all times is not one that others like to play with. The edges of the cards are razor sharp and can cut as well as a dagger. He controlled all 52 cards in the deck with his magical powers, being able to move each and every one of them independently and without contact. The magical enchantments upon the cards make it so that they can only be destroyed by non-conventional means, meaning that they are nearly indestructible, even being able to deflect bullets.

Name: Quinella Laurian

Age: 22

Class: Normal 'Human'

Bio: Quinella was born in a normal, lower-class family, her father an accountant, her mother, a maid. At 18, she moved out and became a farmhand, a strange job for a woman, but honest work that she enjoyed. The farming family's son became inducted as a Cardinal, and when the family refused the Code, seeing futility as they had lived without it and were still honest, good people, he murdered them all in cold blood. Quinella saw the corruption and horror of Humanity, and decided to track down anyone who abused their own power and, nothing but an antique set of plate armour and a sword kept in the farmer's famiy as a present for the son for his induction into becoming a Cardinal to arm herself, has set out to kill those who deserve it.

Skills: Quinella has never held a weapon before in her life, much less a sword, despite a certain comfortability in what is essentially a man's armour set. Because it is a man's set, the chestplate is slightly loosened to counterbalance her own chest. Much of the chain-mail and armour is still used sans the cervelliere, which she replaced with leather for comfort. The sword is still sharp and has been kept that way since it's creation, mostly for ceremonial purposes. Great cook; farming and wilderness survival skills; numerate; illiterate; leatherworking; metalworking.

Other: Because it is a man's armour an is so large, Quinella is often mistaken for a man, a fact compounded upon since she rarely talks while in it.

Name: Marisa

Age: 25

Class: Adept

Bio: Marisa is the granddaughter of the wise old mage who first had a vision that the Malignità had returned.

In reality, Marisa was the one who first had the dreams warning of the Malignità's return. When she first had the dreams, however, she was too young to properly articulate what she saw, and her parents and family dismissed it as a nightmare from listening to scary stories before bedtime. The dismissal of her dream caused her to remain mum about the rest of her dreams, and as such, she never learned or understood the significance of her dreams--she merely thought they were nightmares.

On that fateful day, though, when her grandfather told the village of his vision, Marisa realized her dreams were warnings. Omens. She decided that day she would to everything in her power to prevent the demons from taking over, even if she died doing it.

Marisa has no apparent magical talent outside of her prophetic dreams, which is unusual but not entirely unheard of in the mage village in which she lives. She is an accomplished hunter, skilled with the bow, crossbow, most guns, and the sniper rifle. She's also very good with traps of varying sorts, and has learned how to jury-rig traps on the fly with limited resources. She's not very good in close quarters combat, so she will do her best to run away or otherwise enforce distance on her opponents if they get too close.

Appearance: Marisa is small, about 5' tall, and incredibly lightweight. She has long, mousy brown hair that is kept in a braid, and mismatched eyes--one brown, one blue. Her clothing and boots are dark and practical.

Name: Razio "Phantom" Zwei
Age: 29
Class: Slayer
Bio: Razio has never known love or the warmth of a family, you could say his first memories was of him being violently waken up to a bucket of water cool enough to freeze the blood in his veins, after spending the former night sleeping on a equally cold floor with only one ragged blanket. What would follow was a meagre breakfast meal consisting of slightly stale bread and a small bowl of oatmeal, next thing that would happen would be something his captor called "Training" to him it it was more akin to "Torture". Razio never knew who old he was during that time but when a "Cardinal" came to "Collect" him he was told that he was 14. During the time when he was employed by the "Cardinal" he was used as his personal assassin, eliminating all who his "Master" told him to. When he turned 20, he had finally made a name for himself that as "Phantom", someone who could get in to any compound didn't matter heavily guarded it was. The "Phantom" would get in and kill his target as his "Master" the "Cardinal" ordered. It was around the time he turned 21 that his own "Master" was killed. Since then he's been a wandering assassin, killing for the highest bidder. Not only has he's worked as an asssassin, he's worked as a Bodyguard and transporter for dangerous goods.

The world is a strange mix of high-tech and western technology. I wouldn't quite call it steampunk (there is electricity), but it's split between the larger cities that are more high-tech and the smaller towns and settlements out in the deserts and plains that are more western style.
Several men and women, who have displayed extraordinary physical abilities, combat skills, or talent in magic, have been chosen to combat the coming apocalypse.
Demons, monsters and other abominations from another plane of existence have found a way to cross into this world, and aim to take it as their own. 7 armies lead by 7 demon generals have appeared across the world. It's up to these once powerful loners to take up their weapons once more and travel across the planet to put a stop to this invasion. They are...


-Paladin/Legend Classes-
Slayer- Warriors without equal. Masters of the use of both melee weapons and firearms, they often perfect a style which involves switching between either quickly, or using both at the same time. They have developed supernatural physical attributes such as increased strength, agility, reflexes, speed and endurance. However, Slayers lack any magical talent.

Adept- Adepts are combatants who have a natural gift for magic, but either didn't have the patience or the opportunity to commit themselves to its study. They often use melee and/or ranged weaponry, and use magic to augment their combat abilities. They do however lack the raw magical power that Mages possess, and come nowhere near the physical prowess of Slayers, but are rarely in a position where they must fight with only their magic or weapons.

Mage- Magic users go by many names, but Mage sounds the coolest. They are the masters of magic, and often forgo the use of weapons of any kind to focus on their magic abilities. They can be healers, illusionists, conjurers, summoners, or elementalists. Some even prefer to practice a variety of magic rather than specialize.

Clarification: You do not have to play a Paladin. The Paladins do not know they were born to fight off the demonic apocalypse, they're just people with extraordinary abilities. However, normal, everyday people will be just as important to the story.
