This is the semester I'm graduating, so I've actually taken an unannounced break from the Guild for most of this semester. I've logged in a few times to deal with server config, but otherwise I haven't been able to deal with the server. Contra Fates has been doing most of the work with little input from me.
I won't be able upgrade the server until the bulk of my finals are finished (Monday), so I'm planning the server upgrade to go down between Dec 6th and Dec 11th.
Your patience during this time is well received and much appreciated.
New Staff
Recently we've sent out a couple applications for both Contest Manager and Comrade positions, and although we've received many applications, we are only able to choose a few. The ones we think would do the best in the given positions. Thank you to all those who participated in the application process. Give proper kudos to our new AOTM Manager and three new Comrades.
New york, an ordinary city right? Normal people walking among normal people. There are those not so normal that feast and take those who are and dramatically change newyork. Aniceent ruins under newyork groan for new blood and ancient evils and goods awake once again.
Nurthendor Academy, a place for "gifted" people of all ages. Although the school may appear harmless many adventures are to be enjoyed beyond the massive gates that surrounds the school. Home to Golden Dragons, Unicorns, Caves, Puzzles, and even Dark Cultists who plan the destruction of Nurthendor Academy.
The faithful Mr. Rothen is the last celestial sage of the four who sealed away the dark forces and the one responsible for the creation of Nurthendor Academy to combat the ever growing dark forces of the Nightshades.
As the truth of the Lavender Pit Massacre unfolds, nine mortals Chosen by an unseen force, realize all they knew to be myth, superstition, legend is not only real, but massing at the Gateways. They are ready to move.
The global invasion is only hours away as the Chosen Nine descend into a harrowing tale of horror and nightmares where they quickly realize they cannot escape their Fate. As the harbingers of humanity’s destruction only one question remains: can the Chosen save their own soul before time runs out?

War within, War without, War unending. This is a phrase that had been used to describe the continent of Blagotha for more than two centuries. It has been engulfed in civil war for more than those two centuries, and neither side has come to an agreement yet. These sides are the Monarchy, which seeks to maintain its hold on the continent, and the Rebellion, which seeks to overthrow the Monarchy and usher in a period of Democracy. Each side seeks to tip the balance through use of Mercenary companies. Their loyalties are as fluid as water, loyal only to the next highest bidder, and will gladly betray their side for a sack of gold pieces.
Only a small portion of the population has access to what they refer to as "the blanket of magic." These people are born with the ability to tap into this source, and they can pull power from it for a price. Whatever amount one uses, they must give back their own energy. This magical population consists of three species; vampires, werewolves, and witches. Each only has the ability to access the magic to use towards their own specific kind of magic. Witches are able to use magic in the more traditional way, with spells and elemental control being the focus. Werewolves are able to use this form for shape-shifting into their wolf form, along with enhanced strength, speed and overall endurance. Their regeneration abilities allow them to live almost indefinitely if they so choose to focus magic there, though they can choose to live a normal human life span. Vampires are the fastest of them all, with speed that is almost teleportation. Their strength is only matched by that of the best werewolves, and they live forever as well, but immortality and invincibility come at a greater energy cost, and they must drink human blood in order to keep the energy up.
It was not always this way. At one time, all of the magical population had access to all kinds of magic. There were no specific species, just a limit on how much magic could access overall, based on ones own energy capacity. This was true for everyone except for a vicious ruler of the kingdom where most people with magical abilities lived. He had found a way to make a very uneven trade off between magic and energy, and became nearly unstoppable.
Three brave townsfolk decided that they needed to defeat him somehow, and they sacrificed the ability to access all magic to focus on one part of it and become very powerful in that one area. This meant that, together, they were just as powerful as the one ruler. After a fight, they only managed to trap him, and they were unable to return to their old ways of practicing magic. They formed the three different species, and all that was left in the end was them.
Eventually, the three species divided and began to fight with one another, having forgotten the teamwork and sacrifice that had brought them into existence. The war still rages today, even as the old king slowly begins to break free of his entrapment, thousands of years later.
Since then, the origin of the three species has fallen victim to myth and folklore, and no one knows the truth anymore. One powerful witch had a vision about the true story, and also saw that the king was rising again. She knew that she had to do something, she had to join the species once more. This witch bore two children; one half-witch, half-vampire, and the other half-witch, half-werewolf. The children were split up, the werewolf child going with her father to be raised as part of a clan, keeping her witch heritage a secret, and the other remaining in the witch coven, not knowing of her own vampire origins.
It was no coincidence when these two siblings ended up in the same university. Fate brought them together, along with the vampire and werewolf who were destined to fight along side them, as told by the witch's prophecy. The vampire and werewolf have been alive many years, and the fact that destiny placed them at the same college at the same time shows that it is nearing the king's escape. Will they have time to realize who they truly are and join forces with one another?

A Message From Contra Fates:
As you no doubt have noticed there is a problem with RPG's server, and we've been experiencing increased bouts of downtime. Please bear with it and in the meantime there are a few things you can do to help with the load. Please make certain your Signature is within specifications of 650 x 450 pixels. This will include both images and text, not just the size of the image. Any spoilers and hiders in your Sig that may be full images and Videos must be removed as they cause strain on the server. Please reconsider linking any youtube videos or using animated gifs, and utilize still, static images. Because of the severity of the server's load, the Moderation Team will be enforcing these limits, and signatures will be disabled for users who repeatedly do not comply with these restrictions. Since this is all being done in the spirit of improving RPG's performance, please verify your signature's size ahead of time and make necessary changes.
Other minor changes done around the Guild to help with server load are an increased wait time between forum searches, an increased refresh time limit on Who's Online, and other minor back-end modifications. The 90-second throttle between posts will remain until a decrease in server issues is noticed.
As a final word, during the nightly downtime, users can have a massive impact upon the server if they wait a minute between trying to refresh the page:
The above is the typical load our server experiences during the peak nightly hours, and is the result of users repeatedly refreshing the page. We realize how tempting the F5/Refresh button is, but please fight the temptation to hammer away at it. The server, and every RPG user will thank you for it.
