I seem to be dead...
Ember smiled, grateful. She waited for him to get settled, and once he peered out at her she went into the cave. It was considerably warmer in there than it was outside, even despite the rocky walls blocked the cool breeze. Afterall, it was the home of a dragon...So it made pretty good sense to her.
She hesitated, shy before moving under his tucked wing. Already it felt much more comfortable than her own bed, more secure. She closed her eyes, her mind and body relaxing.

Elspent laid down his head a few feet from the girl closing his eyes. If undisturbed he could sleep till night the next day. He figured Ember would wake him if she needed him or woke up in the morning thinking 'Oh my god I'm not dreaming!' It was a possibility after all.
With one final ripple of scales he began to lose consciousness. Before his mind faded completely into dream he thought.
~Good night Ember~

I seem to be dead...
Good night, Elspent
Ember smiled, slowly falling asleep. As she did so, she snuggled closer to his body, pressing against the scales before completely drifting off. And unlike most nights, which were full of restless tossing and turning and nightmares, tonight she slept soundly.

Elspent dreamt of a past not at all his own, of swirling people places and pain. A man that bore red dragon eyes beat into the flesh of Elspent. His subconscious never quite realizing thedifferance between flesh and scale. The dragon eyed devil of a man was the cause of much pain, the root of pure vileness. Yet Elspent felt as though the man was his kin, perhaps his only kin,how could he fight back. The pain drove bin to use his own claws to draw physical pain to wrists and legs to drown the pain inside.
He fled the evil in that man. Clawed feet drove him onward into the unknown. A brush moved so he called out;
~who is there?~ Again his subconscious didn't pick up on how he spoke instead of telepithy.
Before him stood Ember. That's when he woke from his dream, or had he awoken intime to see Ember stand up?

I seem to be dead...
Ember jolted awake, her link to Elspent making her sense that he had woken. She rubbed one eye, lifting her head slightly from the dragon's scales. What's wrong? she asked with a sleepy thought, seeming ready to fall back asleep at any moment. It was pitch black in the cave, leaving Ember glancing around in the dark.

~Morning is nearing. I had a dream, one I seem to have forgotten instantly. Sorry I woke you child.~
Unspent shifted his right wing loosening his tightened muscles. Looking toward the entrance of the cave he started to wonder what it was a human child did while young. A long sleek neck bent into a semi circle so that Elspent's one eye looked over Ember. What was their to life with out dragon wings to fly? Or a dragons teeth to rend flesh? Or fire to burn that which needs to be burned.
~So what do you do during the day? Its hard to speculate at a people I havent paid much attention to in a hundred years or so.~

I seem to be dead...
Ember met his gaze, shrugging. I don't really do much, besides school. But it's summer break, so I don't have to worry about that. All I really do is...stay home. She tried to keep it at that, though she couldn't help the thoughts that went through her mind abd undoubtedly through his, too.
Her father beating her, over and over. Pinning her to the wall, shoving her to the ground and kicking her, punching her. The insults rung in her ears. That led to her thinking about the many severe bruises strewn along her stomach, back and sides.

Leaning closer Elspent discharged a small amount of smog. His anger was yet again renewed.
~We have a few things to discus. First off I need to know what exactly you need protection from. Next order of business is the options we could,~ He paused mid thought to come up with a kinder way to hint at what he wanted to do, ~The options we have to solve the problem~
He slowly got to his feet, slowly moving his left wing giving Ember more than enough time to slide off. He sat poised before her. He intentionally moved a little ways away so that she could move over to where he had been laying moments before. The ground would still be warn in case she started to feel the cold.

I seem to be dead...
Ember noticed his anger, and it made her flinch. For some reason, she thought it was her fault. The abuse was because of her. At his words, she nodded. A shiver racked through her body, so she moved over to where he had been, enjoying the warmth.
Protection from my father...And... She looked away. Myself. Ember sighed, rolling her sleeve up to reveal long, uneven scars, an obvious sign of self-harm. She knew she'd probably have to explain. She shrugged, not knowing any possible solutions.
