It all started when a group of young people were invited to participate in a short term research study. It seemed like a nice deal; supplied money to rent a boarding house and pay for food, a stipend at the end in return for their trouble, and credits towards their degree. It seemed like fun; an extended co-ed program for college students freshmen; little work, good pay, a place to life while at school and even a chance at a scholarship. It was too good a deal to pass up.

Even the tests were simple; puzzles, obstacle courses, races, strength tests. A few classes in teamwork, simple training exercises and fighting lessons; all to test their physical and mental capabilities. In fact, the most scientific thing that would happen was a twice daily injection. Nothing that would seem overtly suspicious or that would cause undue alarm.

But there was more to it that that. They all had something in common; a rare condition long since considered to be nothing than myth and legend, a genetic quirk that made them different. A quirk that allowed them to change, shift into beings that were closer to other mammals that to humans; were creatures of all sorts, therianthropes.

Once the treatments reached the point were those genetic quirks were no longer recessive, the situation changed. Rooms became cages. Games became experiments. Friendly researchers became cold sadistic scientists. They did it with a goal in mind, something the wanted to achieve, but so far they aren't telling. One thing was clear though, this wasn't a place to stay. They needed to get out of this lab trap, and soon.

All the subjects to take part in the experiment were chosen based on the presence of one of several identified recessive genes that allows them to carry the genetic pattern of another mammal in addition to their own human DNA. Theories exist as to the origin of these genes, though none as been verified to any conclusive degree. It is possible to activate these recessive genes through treatments with various protein activators and deactivated retroviruses, which is the goal of the Therianthropy project.

Once the gene is activated fully, subjects experience their first transformational* process into a hybrid human-animal form. The first transformation is generally the longest. Subjects possess two** forms in addition to their human one after a successful activation. The first includes animalistic characteristics including denser fur like hair, elongated teeth, ears and nails (depending on gene carried,) as displayed by subject 04 {Canis lupus derv.}. Despite being called the first form, it takes a great deal of effort for a subject to attain this form and hold it. The second form is a more complete hybrid, and is the one naturally taken when a subject shifts. This form loses a good deal of capabilities initially, and seems to be driven mainly by emotions than logical reasoning.

Each shifts brings with it a slight increase in mass, about 5% for first shift and 10% for the second. Subjects display enhanced senses and strength even without shifting, as well as an enhance metabolism, capable of healing about 25% faster than humans. They retain some faint feral influences to their appearance after their first transformation, a condition we have yet to determine a cause for. It appears to vary in intensity between subjects, so it is possible it is related to the strength of the anomaly in each individual.


*The transformational process, while taking a little as thirty seconds for an experience subject, is extremely painful. We hypothesis it is due to the entire body structure being rearranged, often at the tissue and cellar level. Attempts to induce natural pain killing compounds into the process are as of yet unsuccessful.
**Research points to the possibility of a third, complete form, but their has been no evidence to this as of yet.

::Alpha Division::
Supervisor- Dr Thomas Watson; Ph.D Biochemistry, Medicine, Molecular Genetics, Zoology.
Alpha (α) Division was the first facility founded in the current frame, and is the largest one in operation. The methods used are the most questionable and inhumane with the highest failure rate, though the process is also the most cost effective. Alpha Division also does testing on Primes. Under Dr Watson, five assistant supervisors operated at this branch. Alpha Division is comprised of several interconnected facilities in New York.

::Beta Division::
Supervisor- Doctor Sebastian Seung; Ph.D in Genetics, Veterinary Medicine and English Literature.
Beta Division is the second largest facility in operation and has two other assistant supervisors working under doctor Dr Seung. Has a few willing participant batches, and a few unwilling ones. Beta is the second most humane in terms of treatment, and grants unusual liberties to select subjects. β009 (James) was under Dr Seung. β033 and β042 (James, Vasily and Mei) are from various sets under Doctors Reid and Carlos. Beta Division masquerades as a natural conservation facility in Brazil.

::Gamma Division::
Supervisor- Dr Brian Morrison; Ph.D Evolutionary Theory, Biochemical Theory.
While not as bad as Alpha, they still have some cruel treatments in service and, in terms of cost effectiveness, are somewhat behind Alpha's methodologies. They use extreme tests to document qualities. Beta and Gamma were commissioned around the same time. Dr Morrison was promoted from Alpha Division. Gamma Division's cover is a pharmaceutical testing and production facility in Northern Mexico.

:: Delta Division::
Supervisor- Dr Gerald Grant; Ph.D Behavioral Biology, Molecular Biology, Medicine.
He pioneered the four week process. While it is the most costly, it has the highest success rate and is the most psychologically stable one. He started out at Beta Division, but was given his own facility a few months before.
Delta Division Facilities are located under a large walk-in clinic and medicinal research center in Toronto, Canada. The lower levels, devoted entirely to the Project, has a maze of corridors and levels, to contain not only the subjects, as one of it's purposes is to treat ill-adjusted subjects, but to contain Dr Grant and control his movements to some degree.
--Note: Anomalies have been reported from all over the facility.
**AMMENDMENT***
Grant has a high possibility of being a Contender. The original intent was to keep him close to monitor him, but that may have been a mistake on my part. Will continue to keep watch on the situation. I am not yet convinced those earlier anomalies were coincidental occurrences.

::Omega Division::
Omega is more of a task force than an actual division. They mainly handle internal affairs and covering for accidents and escapes. An elite group, their numbers are only in the double digits.

Mystery Man first appearance- Aside from his display of unnatural strength, senses and capabilities, such as his apparent disappearance, nothing is know about him. He claims to be a 'freelancer,' though no further clue was given to his identity. He seems to be well connected with vague figures he called 'Arthur', 'Sieg', and 'The Upstart'.

Evee is one of the sweetest girls that you could meet, she's really smart and is good at solving mind problems. She's used to being surrounded by friends, but sometimes she finds herself too busy for her own popularity. She can be a little obsessive when it comes to things she's REALLY interested in, but she's gotten good about keeping it to herself for the most part. She's a social butterfly, she thrives from the attention she gets from her friends.

Bio:
Evee grew up in a middle class home with loving and supportive parents. She was very active when it came to school activities, and she made a lot of different friends because of it. As she grew older she found herself surrounded by people and found that she thrived under the attention. She wound up getting a little too caught up with the popularity and shallowness of it all though and let her grades slip more than she should have, she managed to save herself with her grades, but the damage had already been done. She had a few things to fall back on, she was in cheerleading, but nothing that would offer her a full ride. She wound up graduating in the top 20% of her class and was offered a partial scholarship to the school of her choice, but she couldn't afford to pay what would be left over. It had only been about a week since she had graduated when she had gotten a letter in the mail telling her about this scholarship program, this was like a dream come true, and though she didn't recall signing up she accepted without a second thought, having no idea what she was truly in for.

I had a bunch of cool (and scientifically plausible) reason's why high schooler would be better, but then I thought about a short speech on of the scientists is going to say (already written out and everything) and figured I didn't want to be that mean to a bunch of early teens. Personality: Kit is cheerful and a wee bit eccentric. He tries to help others as he can but also takes more on himself than he should, not liking to burden others. He is open with general things but, on the other hand, is secretive with information and likes to bribe people. He also likes to take notes and jots his observations down in his notebook, which doubles as a little black book. He sometimes gets vindictive and argumentative, refusing to give up the last word, but also likes to push peoples buttons for some reason and is quite mischievous. He dislikes any order or authority but his own, and often only does things grudgingly.

Bio: Kit has had a normal and somewhat boring life, with no major exciting events up to this point. He has gotten fairly good grades in school on a consistent basis (except for French and Spanish, he crashes and burns in foreign languages) and had a few good friends (though no girl friends yet) and the most exciting thing he can thing about happening to him was slipping on a hike and tumbling down the side of relatively (somewhat) steep hill. All he got was a nasty cut on his back, which scarred, but that's about it. When people ask him about why he's had such a dull life, he generally says some has to, since not everyone could get the fun stuff.

His choice of study was similarly plain. He just picked something that looked and sounded mildly interesting and ran with it. That was after working for two years in a moving company. He did manage to sprain a finger, but aside from that he was a good employee. He grew hated credit cards after a family friend (she was at one point their land lord) got scammed out of thousand dollars. Since then, he has been withdrawing half his pay check and hiding it away. He signed on to the project for the free lodging and the money at the end.

Other: He hates credit cards and, true to his eccentricities, has money buried in his backyard. He's mildly allergic to dogs

Personality: She's very shy and timid. Jade prefers to flee from a problem rather than face it. She's a sweet girl, and wouldn't hurt a fly. Jade has been a devout vegetarian since she was little. The idea of hurting animals just upsets her. Jade could be described as a bit of a tree hugger. However, the quiet girl would almost never speak her beliefs.

Appearance: She is about 5'2" and very petite. She looks like she may be of Asian decent. Jade has black hair, fair skin with a yellowish hue, and brown eyes. She's a cute girl; in fact, she looks younger than her age.

In her rabbit form, she is the same height and build, but with cream colored fur. She still has her black hair and brown eyes. Jade has big, long rabbit ears, digitigrade legs with big, long feet, and a fluffy cotton tail. She has chocolate brown markings: socks on her hands and feet, a brown tail, brown muzzle, and brown ears.

History:
Jade's life has been very uneventful. She never went out for cheer leading or joined any clubs. She has maybe one or two good friends, whom she lost when she had to move away to college. Jade signed up for this program because she saw an opportunity to make new friends and work on her social skills.

Major/Discipline: Feild Biologist.
Personality: Damein is a very complex person. He was very cautious the deal was too good to pass up. But it was also too good to believe. Despite being cautious he is very laid back. He developed Multiple Personalities during the testing as a side effect. The two personalities are Paranoia, and Normal. Paranoia is just his cautiousness kicking into hyper drive. He wont raise his hand against the innocent or to strike someone down for his own sake he only fights for others and many find him foolish for believing in this archaic method. His mind is a weapon, to him it is more dangerous than any weapon of mass destruction.
Bio: He was born to a normal family but they died three hours later in an accident. He hadn't been named at the time. So he was Thrown into the foster home system and given the name Damein, He had no last name so he lived most of his life without one. According to official records Damein died those years ago, but he survived the child that they found in the car was his twin brother Alex, noone knew that Damein was his twin, due to a screw up with the doctor who performed the C-section. Damein in everyhome he was in caused trouble to follow him and around every house he found a place he claimed as his own, generally these were in the woods. He took his last name Vale from his favorite caretaker.
