There were a lot of things that rushed through Equinox's head, but he could put his finger only on a specific few. For example, he realized himself that he wouldn't be able to know if he was the chosen one or not right from the start. He knew that Haazen's intentions weren't just mere "having fun", so if Equinox had such a bad stream of luck that he did end up being the one, then he had to be on a guard, not doing anything reckless.

He still considered this a bore, not a boring turn of event however. It was interesting, even more than that, but he came here not for this; he came here to... disconnect from the real world. For now, he'd just have to play the cards he got until Haazen was satisfied with the data he got from Equinox's first PvP experience. There was something else on his mind, but he neglected it for a moment; probably just a small bird that was caught by his peripheral vision.

All things considered, Haazen probably had an idea of holding all the cards in his hands, and he wasn't all that wrong. He, obviously, knew his own intentions, and whether he would, in the worst case scenario, want to dispose of the chosen want or to merely side with him or her... he had a good plan of seeing if Equinox was indeed that one. Either way, Equinox had little to no choice in this matter. He had to choose the one choice that would make him less suspicious. Of course, if Equinox chose to fight someone else, Haazen might just think that he is eager to know if he is the champion. But, truthfully, although having little benefit of being one, he was curious if he was of such bad luck right from the start.

"Is that what you call those people? Champions? Also, not to keep you bored for too long, I say a little combat will suffice. Now...I don't suppose you want to fight me yourself, now isn't that right? Did you have on your mind something else? Like finding a random blood-thirsty fighter?

He paused a bit to think of the right words to use, "...then he must have got a heck of a powerful computer. I mean, it's ridiculous. Everything."

Yes. Everything is this real. And is that a good thing or a bad one?

"So yes...this world is pretty realistic as far as I have saw. Except for magic and dragons, of course."

He gave out a weak laugh as he tried to make a joke out of this totally complicated issue, while he pondered about how, and why, Ex would have made this world.
Flux's eyes opened wider than she'd meant them to in her shock at having actually been sided with on a crazy theory that she knew wasn't as likely as a fully immersive virtual reality experience; she had played a game back in the late 80s, almost 1990, that had covered it...but it DID require special equipment and cybernetic augmentation. Then again, when it was written, phones still had cords. Who's to say that the quickly advancing technologies wouldn't be at a level now where it could be done with hypnotic light patterns and subliminal messaging? She was sure that it could already be done like that, though that was mostly to implant suggestions, not make them see and interact with another world.

"It really was a crazy idea. Not my craziest, though. I've had a few thoughts on the matter during this conversation. It's really not that important, I don't think. I'm curious, though; when did you start using magic? You think it's something anyone can pick up? And...is there any way you could help me find someone? I've been trying to find them since I joined this."

Flux took a deep breath. She wasn't sure how, but she has said a LOT in a single breath, both out of nervousness and a sudden sense of urgency, and now she was getting lightheaded. Lightheadedness? How? She used her spear to hold herself up. "I shouldn't talk so much, huh?" She let out what she had hoped would be a laugh, but it came out more like what one expects from someone who just woke up after extensive surgery. I've done too much. "Do we have to eat in this? Or do our characters just nourish themselves while we're not in-game?" I'm totally giving myself away now. He'll know I'm new...oh well. He's new, too.

Not that he had much time to try to remember it, though, because he had barely begun walking before he heard a player's voice calling for someone's attention. At first, he forgot to even turn around, sort of assuming this person was talking to someone else, though as they approached Kiren glanced to each side of him and noticed that the two of them were in fact alone, so it must've been him that the raccoon-tail was talking to.

"Oh, uh... sure you can walk with me." he replied, not seeing much of a reason to object. "Quite honestly, I was just looking for something to do myself. I don't get online much, so it's a bit disappointing that one the one day I'm around, I can't find anything to do..."

However, the surprising turn of events was then that Basalix shortly thereafter seemed to calm down a bit. His rage quelled and he, at the very least, was no longer attacking Ilu, and his serpents even refrained from terrorizing the innocent merchants, though, the mage still found it difficult to glance at their still dying forms without beginning to feel sick.

What Ilu was even more surprised to see was this sudden and random act of... mercy? Yes... It appeared that Basalix had found one young, defenseless human amongst the crowd, somewhat like herself, and convinced him that he was safe, that he wouldn't harm him... This was certainly a surprise to the young mage, but at the very least, a pleasant one. He allowed the young humanoid to come out from his hiding place, sure that he wouldn't be harmed, that he was safe... and even brought the little boy out to meet Ilu. The mage wasn't sure at first if this was even really happening, or why Basalix would have such a sudden change of heart, but overall the turn of events was quite pleasing to her.

Until, in the middle of their conversation, Ilu suddenly found Basalix's blood-covered blade pointed directly at her, and it wasn't until she looked up from the tip of that blade to find it protruding from the chest of the young boy whom she'd just met, her hands clasping over her mouth in shock as she saw his now lifeless eyes before Basalix let his corpse slump to the ground, eyes watering in fear, confusion and grief.

Before she could even reply, she suddenly found herself caught in Basalix's serpents, unable to run away or defend herself, now at the mercy of merciless Basalix. She wanted to scream, but before she could, she found the monster's scaley hand shoved down her throat, preventing her from screaming, the blood of the recently-killed still covering that same hand, leaving the most awful taste in her mouth. As she helplessly kicked and struggled, desperate to break free, to get away, Basalix began screaming at her like a madman, about how it was necessary to become a beast like him if one wanted to survive in Data Spell. Ilu didn't even have the incentive to argue, as at this point she figured she would be lucky to get away with her life! When Basalix finally let go of her, but still left her trapped within his serpents' grasp, he went back into the streets, and finished off each already dying merchant one at a time. All of them helpless and ripe for the slaughter, like herself.

As soon as Basalix left her to continue his killing, Ilu immediately choked and gagged on the victims' blood left in her mouth, the very knowledge that that's what it was still making her feel terribly sick. Glancing up as Basalix's killings, Ilu was speechless and couldn't even scream, but only whimper, terrified. Like a train wreck, she was mortified but couldn't look away. As she watched the life drain from each innocent merchant, she couldn't help but feel terribly sorry for them, knowing that, truly, this would be the end of their lives not just inside the game, but as a whole. And as she watched the whole ordeal, she could feel her own fear bubble up inside her. Overpowering her sympathy for all the merchants was the fear that when Basalix was done, he would come back for her. She'd be annihilated along with everyone else. There was no reason for the monstrous serpent to let her live, and no chance of her escaping. I'm gonna die. Ilu thought, petrified. I'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgon nadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadie...! She began to break down into terrified sobs, eyes clamped shut, unable to watch the gorey ordeal for any longer. I'll be found dead in front of my computer, just like Shawn...!

Her own fear blocking out everything around her, she hadn't even noticed when Basalix began to approach her, or the serpents that began to wrap around her wrist, and turn to metal. When the remaining snakes released their grip on her and slithered away, though, she immediately opened her eyes and looked down at herself and the serpents in surprise and confusion. Glancing up from the ground, she saw Basalix's figure receeding into the distance, the snakes following after. He... let me live? the mage wondered, confused and shocked but ever so grateful. She couldn't bring herself to think about why the reptilian monster would allow her to live, she was only too overwhelmingly relieved to still be breathing. "I didn't die...." she whispered, still too trapped in her own world to make note of any other living being on the scene, about ready to begin sobbing again out of the recent stress and emotional trauma alone.

All he'd really ever known in the game were the authoritarian eagles who so quickly drew Free into their kingdom after he'd joined. After Ryu bounded ahead of the hawk at speeds Free thought were only humanly possible in anime, the bird wondered if he should continue to stick around, or fly back to where he was supposed to be. Looking at how he just seems to be fangirling over the entire ordeal, he probably needs a calmer, veteran member around to keep him from doing anything stupid... he concluded, and so Free flapped his wings and tried to gain as much speed as he could, trying to catch up to this hyperactive adventurer.

Justice stayed silent as Rin screamed and shrieked, only stepping backwards and watching as the girl seemed to slip deeper and deeper into her own insanity. Just what is this girl... he wondered. As strange as it would be to think that this girl actually did know so much more than he did about Ex, it seemed far more likely to assume this was just some delusional woman who had no idea what she was ranting about.

After she appeared to have calmed down, he looked at her skeptically as Rin began petting his wings, patting his head, softly repeating "poor wolfie, poor wolfie" over and over. A small part of him may have been curious as to what this deranged player was going on about, but he still kept his opinion that Rin was nothing more than a madwoman.

"Hmph," he grunted as she began to walk away, the wolf also turning around and heading in another direction. "Whatever you say, mage." he replied as he kept walking, not having taken a word of what she said seriously.

"I have no idea. Eating is possible in this world anyway, even if it's not necessary." Marius was half-surprised for hos he remain in the game for so lang and never considered an issue regarding such a fundamental gameplay element. "So I guess if you feel hungry you should go find something to eat. At least it's better than not doing so to try to find out if you starve to death. There's no respawning in this game you know."

Respawning. Such a basic function of almost every game in existence, he wondered the motives behind Ex not implementing it. Perhaps this was a parallel universe after all.

"As for magic...I'm not sure. Although I have heard that there is a difference of races in this world, and it is not impossible for some aspects of abilities to exist and are only available to certain players." He gave the adventurer and answers in a tone sounding as official as possible, "But granted how 'real' this whole thing is, nothing can be certain, yes?" He raised an eyebrow and expected agreement.

"Then, speaking of food and finding people...we're not far from a village, if I remember correctly." Marius had no idea how far the little argument with the dragons have taken him away from his original path, but hopefully it won't be too far to cover by foot before sundown.

"Do you know about Droc?" He asked, indicating he would gladly lead the adventurer to the destination if asked to, although again he's not sure which direction it is exactly.

"Oh, I'm sure there's something entertaining around here. Kahkrah never really gets boring." Honey stated with a sly smirk. Naturally finding a bit of excitement on these virtual streets would be no problem, even though Honey could and was imagining what sort of entertainment they could get into alone on this empty street. Honey had just enough self control, however to refrain from mentioning this...not just yet.

He could only hope that they would stumble upon something of interest, possibly at someone else's expense; In this game it seemed the most fun occured when people/dragons/wolves/whatever else were at eachother's throats. And it wasn't as if Honey wasn't aware what happened offline if a player was to die in the game; he was completely indifferent to the matter, in a semi-sadistic sort of way.

In anycase, there was nothing to see on this street, and there didn't seem to be any sounds of fighting or explosions nearby to dwell upon, or at least nothing his ears could pick up. I guess I'll just stalk follow his lead then. "So which way are you headed? Any place particular?"

The Aquila Kingdom, while hiden safely from most outside of Kahkrah's avian population was simple to locate for Rin. She appeared instantly at the entrance, instantly rendering the first gaurd unconscious with a super powerful punch. Naturally the second and third gaurd began to fire thier weapons at the savage mage, but Rin was quick to act and deflected the arrows, sending them zipping back at the guards at five times the force. Both birds dropped instantly, though niether were fatally wounded. Poor feathery little dears...that looks like a rather nasty fall to. They should survive, at least... Rin thought, though she was well aware that there was no time to make certain of the gaurds' conditions, as backup would soon be on thier way. Quickly she morphed into a fuschia cloud of smoke that easily streamed through the bird-sized tunnels that led into the kingdom itself. The smoke then traveled towards the center of the kingdom, searching for the king himself. Many of the birds she passed by gawked as she blew by, unsure of what was going on. Rin could care less if she was spotted, in fact she almost wanted her presence to be known. If she was fortunate enough, perhaps word of her appearance would spread through the kingdom and his majesty would come to her.

Finding a platform to rest on, Rin returned to her typical appearence, the patches of skin readjusting themselves acrossed her chest. The access smoke shifted into a long violet cloak that flowed behind her. "WHERE IS YOUR KING?" She shrieked loudly, glancing around at the players that had stopped to stare. It was clear that a mage like herself was not a common sight in this sector of Kahkrah.

Not that Rin wasn't accustomed to recieving strange looks.

Ryu came to a skidding halt as he finally made it to the streets of Droc. "ALRIGHT!" He hollered, pumping a fist in the air.

Granted there seemed to be a lack of anything particularly exciting on the street he had wound up on. But would that stop this high-strung adventurer from going off the walls about this quaint little village that he knew little to nothing about; HELLS NO!

Ryu had no clue where he was going, but he was the hero, afterall, and adventure followed where er the hero went. And speaking of following, Ryu had just realized his feather clad sidekick had yet to catch up. He glanced behind him, shooting an exillerated grin at the hawk as he approached. "So this is it, right? That Drox place???" He asked, now with such a giddy fanboy look on his face that it looked like he would explode from the excitement...or just piddle himself with glee.

But what kind of hero would he be then?

Quite satisfied with himself and the pandemonium ignited in Droc, Basilix took his triumphant leave of the merchant stands. The lizardman strut about apathetically, carrying on his back the loot of innocent lives; taken without the faintest remorse or regret. The cruel, unapologetic Basilix fought back fits of maniacal laughter as he repeatedly proclaimed to the village goers on his way out: “Some mage girl went psycho and started killing merchants for no reason at all!” Basilix was absolutely thrilled; it was a shame he had to leave his own party so soon, but there was no great fortune to be made from lingering in the aftermath of slaughter. Upon reaching the end of Droc Village, Basilix was certain that he would successfully get away without any consequences or unforeseen complications; this was boring to him. Unsatisfied with this uneventful conclusion, Basilix decided to arbitrarily kill another random humanoid player, in a horrific and eccentric fashion. The wicked lizard ripped both the man’s arms off, turned them solid gold with The Midas Fang, and then clubbed the man to death with his own golden limbs. Basilix then very briefly logged off for a handful of celebratory jellybeans, then disappeared into the grasslands.

Flux's thoughts were very indecisive, and it showed clearly on her face. She hoped, of course, it would be interpreted as 'I'm not sure I want to go there.' instead of 'I'm not sure I want to admit I haven't been there and have no idea where it is'. Regardless, both were in fact true. She had considered eating. She wondered what kind of foods there even were in this world, since it had quite a variety of things that were probably edible...but given what she'd seen, she wasn't sure what was even ETHICAL to eat.

"My character has spent her whole life in the forest. I feel compelled to investigate the...village? Maybe we can find a quest there." I sound like such a dork. She laughed nervously, quietly. "Are there perhaps monasteries within the village? I believe my character should be the religious sort. Judging by her appearance, she'd likely be some sort of mock-christian crusader. I don't suspect she'd have the holy magical abilities of a paladin. A templar, maybe?" She continued talking, though her voice had trailed to inaudibility almost immediately, and so far the entire conversation had been directed toward herself. "Oh, sorry. Deciding my character's backstory. I'd like to go to Droc now. Would you please lead me there?"

    --------------------------------------------

Suko stopped as soon as she heard the other anthro's voice. "I'm not looking for a babysitter, and look at me; I could get TONS of friends if I wanted!" There was a hint of anger in her voice, though not enough to cause an involuntary snarl. She'd actually been mildly offended that this new person didn't want to be her friend, but that's not what she was looking for anyway. She took a deep breath to calm herself, though. After a couple more similar breaths, she spoke again. "I was actually wondering if...well, I'm not...combat-ready. I just need someone to teach me. I'll find some way to pay you!"

Echo sighed. "I am Echo, a Ducissa within my guild. You want to train? Find someone of a lower station. I most certainly wouldn't ask the Emperor to train me...ignoring that I know him personally." She inhaled quietly, but deeply. "And there's nothing you could provide for me that I couldn't get already." She looked around. No one appeared to even notice the two furries conversing. "If you want to train, one of my Legates or, more appropriately, one of their soldiers can take you as an apprentice. But you'd first have to meet one of the courtiers in person. We won't pay for travel expenses, but we will reimburse you if you are accepted." By this point, she had unintentionally raised her nose high in the air. "I do hope you're fairly close to Chicago."

Haazen had what he wanted now. All the cards we're in his hands and Equinox had no choice but to do what he wanted. Haazen would have his fun, he'd get to test the rookie player whether he wanted to be tested or not. Equinox probably was not amused with the fact that Haazen was forcing him into this test but it mattered very little to Haazen. If Equinox 'passed' the tests then he would have nothing to fear from Haazen in fact Haazen would even give Equinox a little reward later on down the road for passing the tests as he did. And if Equinox managed to 'fail' Haazen's tests then he would get a completely different reward for doing so that Haazen would enjoy just as much! But he knew he couldn't just throw Equinox into any old fight, he didn't want to get the young rookie killed after all! At least not yet he didn't.

So he would have to be a careful with the newbie if he didn't want to get the man massacred so early into the game. He would have to be selective with this test. But first he was curious to know if Equinox had any idea of his own abilities this early on in the game. Not to mention Haazen felt the need to explain his use of the specific term champions that he used to describe the chosen ones by Ex.

"I use the term champions to describe them because that is basically what they are. Whether they know it or not they are defenders of Ex's unfair ideals and tribulations. They are the symbol of Ex's selective elitism and that is why I call them Ex's chosen champions!" Haazen decided to move on from that topic now. He could rant and lecture about Ex and his chosen ones all day if he could but he figured he had already talked about Ex too much as it was. Now was the time for some action instead of just words. "So Equinox do you have any idea yet about what sort of combat abilities you may possess? Any specific talents you may have unique to your character? It's good to know these things before you're set up against somebody else in combat."
Darkness lingers in the hearts of even the brightest people.

Marius stood there blankly as Flux bombarded the conversation with a long series of questions spoken in such speed he was not able to comprehend every part of it. After that came a sudden pause, a slight apology which seemingly had no reason and then the agreement to head to the village.

    * * * *

    "Here we are."

He explained as they proceeded through the last distance through the boundaries of the village. He laughed in his mind as he laid down that statement-I almost sound like I know what I am doing. As a matter of fact, he was somewhat a complete newcomer to this world, and now he is company of someone that's even newer. Just consider the fact that we don't even know if it is possible to even eat anything...He was only barely able to navigate through the landscape to arrive here, having going around in loops several times making the journey much longer-I apologize, Flux. At certain moments he even thought of using magic to teleport the two or something like that, but since he didn't exactly know the spells and anything going wrong in teleportation probably will not end well, he gave up the thought. He was thankful they even ended up in Droc successfully.

Proof of the power of users, he thought to himself as he resisted saying it out loud in and unexplainable over-excited voice that would directly expose his real-life identity of a total geek. There was nothing but widerness here at the start of this world's creation-of course, he heard that told, for he was never able to witness that time-and this place just happened. Roads were built, structures rose wherever suitable, and a society took place. He couldn't help but marvel at the amazing process through which this village was created.

Then he noticed that his thoughts have left a gap of silence in the conversation and also subconsciously driven his feet to a stop.

"...Sorry. Anyway, this is Droc village."

“Not really. Just been wandering about in search of some fun.” Kiren replied, grinning. “Ooh! Any word going around on who the new Jewel is?” he asked curiously, almost sinisterly, as if there was a whole lot more behind his question than just genuine curiosity. The dark-haired mage sounded almost hungry to know. “The last one died a few weeks ago, didn’t he? Made into a shared meal by a few dragons, I heard. Poor thing.” He scoffed mockingly. “Is everyone still waiting for Ex’s replacement to be revealed, or have we gotten any news on that?” he asked.

The efficient, organized inner workings of the kingdom were all suddenly thrown off-track with the appearance of a sudden pink cloud making its way through the complex inner structure of the hollowed-out mountain. Birds of every assortment banked sharp turns, many nearly crashing into each other, if not the walls, as loose feathers clouded the large, open-air space that served as everyone’s flying space. From there, various tunnels connecting to this large, open space led to other, smaller rooms, each with distinct purposes. Birds who happened to be coming out of said tunnels or just perched on the ledges in-between all stopped and stared at this unusual abomination. Not even their eagle eyes could decipher what it was.

Though eventually the cloud stopped moving. The majority of it stopped where it was and began concentrating itself in one location. Eventually the dust came together in the form of a young girl, a human girl. Or, at the very least, humanoid, as the stitches across her body and rotted flesh suggested she was more zombie than human, if there was such a thing? Either way, she was rather an unsettling sight, as work in the kingdom suddenly halted just so the feathered Data Spell members could marvel at her. Birds of every species found some sort of perch as quickly as possible, and the echo-y corridor quickly filled with the murmurs of who and what this girl possibly was, and why she was after the king. Likewise, many were hesitant as to whether or not they should flutter off to his quarters and summon him.

Besides, most higher-ups were aware he was busy taking a nap.

Free caught up with Ryu as quickly as possible, finding a suitable perch as soon as the opportunity was given. The whole time he couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that he’d get in trouble for coming this far out, all the way out to Droc, without much of a valid reason to. “You know,” he spoke up, perching on the roof of a nearby building. “Since you’ve already made it to the village, perhaps I should… take my leave?” he asked shyly. “I don’t think I should’ve wandered this far out to begin with… I should probably head back to the kingdom now….” he mumbled timidly. This newcomer was clearly the eccentric type, and he wasn’t sure how he would react to suddenly having to leave… or that this game has a sort of kingdom, either. Strange boy already thinks he’s in Hyrule….
